mamapaige reacted to OutsideMatchInside in Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
You should eat in a way that you can keep eating forever without feeling deprived.
I love eating Keto but it isn't for everyone. If a person feels deprived, then eating Keto or anything else is going to suck for them.
I feel like people need a find a way to eat that doesn't feel like a diet, is easily sustainable for them, and doesn't encourage the idea of cheat meals or cheat days.
If you aren't carb sensitive and can lose weight eating carbs then eat carbs. No one has to live your life or in your body but you. Most programs allow for carbs anyway.

Im 3 months out as well, and still get full from 3-4 bites. I'm already half way to my goal weight. I spoke to the nutritionist about it, and she told me it may take a while to eat more for some ppl. She said make sure Im eating slowly, if you eat fast, that could be causing it. Also to make sure Im taking the acid-reducer that they prescribed. She also told me not to drink within 20-30 minutes of eating. I also had a hernia repair, so she said it is possible that the swelling could take longer to go down. She said to have designated hours for meals, and not to graze throughout the day. If you have a nutritionist, you should see what they recommend you do. Im still eating 3-4 bites per meal, and i drink 2 Protein shakes/day as Snacks in between meals, which is what my nutritionist recommended.

Honestly, sorry to be blunt but it could just be poop. Because we eat a little amount, sometimes it takes a while for the food to process. Also if you weighed yourself when you had very little Water weight and then later weighed your self when you had food and Water weight it could be that you haven't gained a single pound maybe you even lost some fat. Just talk to a nutritionist, exercise and try not to worry too much

You can gain and lose quite a bit of Water weight in a very short amount of time. So I wouldn't worry too much. Not to mention if you're on a high Protein diet you're probably gain and muscle which weighs more than fat. Sounds like you're doing everything right don't beat yourself up stick with what you're doing and you'll be great. Larry BariatricPal App

" Is it unrealistic for me to be freaking out about this? " @mamapaige
Not unrealistic, but definitely an overreaction. Which, you're in early days so you're still learning and whatnot. Your weight can go up for MANY reasons, but it's unlikely due to fat gain. To gain a pound of fat you'd have to consume 3500 calories. Unless you're consuming slider foods, refined sugar, white flour, heavy carbs, etc. this is unlikely to be the case. I had 8 weeks where I lost and gained back the same 3-5lbs. It had a lot to do with stress for me. And I've been steadily losing again since breaking that stall. These things happen. Just follow the plan and trust in the process! These things will fluctuate.

I was told to not weigh myself very often. I did though. Towards the ends of my weight loss, I'd go up and down a few pounds. The surgeon's office even explained you may vary up to 5lbs in a day.

Don't worry about it. Exercise, eat right and follow your doctor's orders.

Remember weight loss doesn't go in a straight line down. You will have many fluctuations as you lose. Water retention from not drinking enough can do this, being constipated, sodium... There's no way you're gaining on 900 calories a day.

I had the exact same thing. You can read my posts. For me, and what made it feel better is walking around for two days while holding my stomach. It was so annoying because I couldn't do anything with my hands while I walked except support my belly. There was a deep suture that needed to heal while I was in motion. I was in so much pain every time I moved that it was healing in a sitting position. And I needed to force myself to walk through it. It sucks so bad I just made myself start walking and that stitch started relaxing and healing in the right way. Instead of pulling and burning. I also used a heating pad at night to relax that deep suture and muscle. When I decided to walk through the pain, it was gone in 2 days. And by day 4 I felt nothing at all. Best of luck!

I'm 8 weeks post op and have been working out for 3 weeks now. I started with aqua aerobics and took it very slow and easy the first week. Just two days that week of that. Then at the beginning of the second week I went to the gym and tried the resistance machines, all at level 1 to get a feel for what I could do. That week I did the two aqua classes and added one day of resistance machines to the mix. At the beginning of this week, I tried the treadmill. I bought a stomach belt because it still hurts a bit when my stomach bounces. The belt works great and makes me sweat more in that area so double good news. I did intervals of walk/jog for a total of 25 min that day and that was it. That was Sunday of this week. I did aqua aerobics on Tuesday, resistance machines and treadmill (15 min) on Wednesday, and aqua again on Thursday. I'm going to rest now until Sunday. I've felt a dramatic increase in my energy since I started working out and am still dropping weight steadily. Good luck!

I am a month post op. Losing weight fast. Was 241 now 208. But I logged into this app because I was wondering the same thing? Sudden dizziness from standing up. Eating 70 to 80 grams Protein and 40ish carbs. About 800 cal. a day. Going to ask my doctor too. I also feel fatigue and winded quickly. I hope it's just our bodies adjusted. Will let you know what my doctor says. Thanks for posting.

I just had to share this. As of yesterday I am officially 100 pounds lighter from my first day of my pre-op diet on October 28, 2016.
In fact, tonight I was 367 pounds so now it's 103 pounds lost from my starting weight of 470 pounds. I am over the moon.
If anyone is on the fence about getting this surgery, let me tell you. It's the best choice I've made in years. You have to follow your doctor's advice and do what they tell you to do including what to eat and exercise. If you do that you will get results!

Hi! I was sleeved on 12/21 too! I'm in Brooklyn, 42 (but fresh to death), 5'2 HW241 SW 234. I bought a fancy scale and I am not even thinking of weighing myself yet. I also had a hernia that was repaired. I did out patient so I had mine at 6:30 am and was home by 3. Although It's like a mini hospital in my bedroom now from the things they sent home with me. I feel good today. Sad that I can't drink big gulps of Water. I'm drinking homemade Protein shakes. Frozen berries, whey, almond milk and Greek yogurt. I can't handle the pre made ones.
I am barely getting anything down tho, hopefully tomorrow I can do better. My issue comes from a small spasm in my stomach, like a cramp I get sometimes after I swallow. Maybe it's from the hernia being fixed tho. But it's slowly going away. And I farted today too!!! I was so happy. And then one tiny poop came too. I was so happy I had to see it before I flushed it. The 1st and 2nd day were so bad that I'm honestly surprised at how fast I feel better. The first days I couldn't even talk- the nausea and gas pain paralyzed me.
My husband made bone broth for me that has 15gm of Protein so I am looking forward to that. It takes 48 to 60 hours to make though, but supposed to be very healthy for you. Thanks everyone for sharing your posts, made me feel better to read. -paige

I am doing this strictly for myself so that one day I can look back at it. Also, maybe it will encourage some of the new peeps. I started my liquid diet on Monday, February 24 at 241. I am 5'4". I had surgery on March 10. Today, 6 weeks later, I weigh 202. I have lost lots of inches- 5.5 off bust, 9.5 off waist, 8 off hips, 5 off thighs, 2.5 and 2.5 off upper arm. I am hoping I can manage to lose 3 more pounds by April 17 so that I will be under 200 when I go for my next checkup at the doctor. This has been quite an adventure- trying to learn how to get all the fluids in and eating in stages. It has not been easy but has been so worth it. I am beginning to try soft foods like grilled chicken and such. So far, the sleeve lets me know if something is going to settle ok or not and I try to listen to all of it's cues to me. I am beginning to worry when I eat anything solid that I am eating too much but my husband reminds me that a few bites of chicken is like a 10th of what I would have eaten before. It's so mental, all of these adjustments. Lots of my clothes are falling off and then some of the tighter ones (like jeans) just pull up and zip so easily. All I can do is just stand in the closet and laugh when stuff like that happens because it feels so good. I am still trying to get my energy back and get to exercising more regularly. I have to keep reminding myself that I did have a major surgery only a month ago.

mamapaige reacted to Queen of Crop in Why do some folks have weight loss less success than others?
I have been on this forum for over 3 years (I had my surgery in Oct 2011) and have been at goal weight and maintained it for 2 years. But in all the thousands of posts I have read, I rarely see a post where the people who have been sleeved have not been happy with the results. There are some that don't quite reach goal, but they still have lost 70% of their excess weight. Some start to gain back after a period of a few years but usually get it under control because their quality of life is so much higher as a thin person.
I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I would ask yourself the question. What is your alternative? I suspect you are considering this because all of the traditional methods have failed. I think you will find in your research, that this surgery has been a life saver and life changing event for the majority of people who have had it. Talk to your surgeon on the best option for you, but from what I have learned, I would not recommend the lap band. Hope that helps. And if you want some inspiration, read my blog and see how this surgery has changed my life; or just look at the photos! Trust me, I am grateful every single day I had this done. I am 61 and living a dream life.
