A revision from sleeve to rny for severe reflux is considered medically necessary, hence all the tests to establish the necessity. It is not considered weight-loss surgery by my insurance.

I have a band, recently went to see my surgeon as it is no longer helping. He told me that a band to sleeve revision would not be recommended as there is a very high risk of reflux with a sleeve, apparently reflux is rare with RNY.

I've lost 72 lbs. since having gastric sleeve surgery in June of 2017. These are the changes I've made this year. I no longer drink carbonated beverages. I don't eat bread, Pasta, rice, tortillas or chips. I rarely indulge on alcohol or sugar. I only eat from a very small bowl or small dessert plate, using a teaspoon. I drink two Protein Shakes a day. I track all my food intake and activity. I am finding new ways to be fit. I recently started training for a 5k, and added weights back into rotation. Surgery is only a tool. It takes constant effort to lose and maintain weight. While I'm far from the end of this journey, my overall health and well-being have improved dramatically and I am ever so greatful to have my life back again!

So, because I know people are worried about gaining while pregnant, I thought I'd share. I got pregnant with my 4th child exactly one year after my VSG. I had lost quite a bit at that point but not to goal weight. I'd gone from a BMI of 41 to a BMI of 29. I gained 35 pounds while pregnant, but lost over 20 of that the first two weeks after the baby was born. I'm now down to within a pound of my pre pregnancy weight at 7 months postpartum. (would have been sooner but I was eating Cookies when I got up to nurse during the night....sigh.)
Photos are me the day before giving birth at 42 weeks, me before surgery, and then 6 months postpartum..belly is all jiggly but otherwise doing okay. I'm down a few more pounds since that photo was taken.

Look for other bodily cues as well. My nose starts to run when I'm done. It's so weird but a good signal.

Really depends on what's going on inside. I had it done in one procedure and had a TON of scar tissue and it took him like 4.5 hours. Most of it was removing the adhesions. I had my band in for 9.5 years. Good luck!

I really don't see it as a punishment. It's a never forget moment.
Its not about jump starting, even though it would be great if it did, it's about never forgetting the sacrifice. I feel like my life now is normal. I don't feel tortured by it either.
It's definitely celebratory, I've had great success, I just don't ever want to be so far away from the struggle that I don't appreciate how the journey started.
It's also self imposed, so if something isn't right or doesn't feel right, then pass the chicken. I'm not about to hurt myself over some idea.

You know I never received the results of my last labs. The RN just called and said he wants you to do iron infusions. I usually get my results online at my chart but they are not showing for some reason

    Hi,

I'm curious what your Iron level was? I've always been iron deficient but not too bad. Just had my
Levels checked and my iron is super low. At what point is infusion an option?

Hi guys. So I had my surgery almost a week ago and I'm recovering really well. However this morning I had the runs really bad and also swollen tummy and griping tummy pain. I usually have skimmed milk but this morning I had whole milk. Could this be the problem? Too rich? Too much lactose or sugar or fat? Would be grateful for any options.

They didn’t let me wear underwear. I probably could have if I begged. Ended up needing the sexy mesh undies cause I got my period (lucky me!!).

You probably don’t need shampoo but it can’t hurt. UCLA just required me to wipe down my body using the chlorhexidine wipes. I also used their toothbrush and toothpaste because I was too messed up on drugs to go in my hospital bag.

Bring a face mask! Even more essential than ear plugs but I also brought a little fan for white noise.

Oh, and I’d bring my own pillow and a throw type blanket. The hospital pillows suck and I used my blanket to snuggle against for comfort and it felt good against my incisions. I slept on my side.

    I brought:

    Chapstick
    Deodorant (didn't use)
    Phone charger + extension cord
Magazines (didn't even take them out)
    Non-slip flip flops
Extra clothes (didn't use, went home in what I came in)
    Hair ties

Holy cow! So your doctor expects you to have lost 111 pounds in a 6 month period. I haven't heard of a doctor expecting such a massive amoùnt of weight to be lost in such a short amount of time. I honestly think that is ridiculous.
It sounds like you are doing everything to follow the plan. I would not pay too much attention to trying to lose 60 more pounds over the next 3 months. Just keep doing what you are doing. You have already lost quite a good chunk of weight in the first 3 months and you should not be surprised if weight loss slows down a little, or if you have stalls along the way.
Cogratulations on the weight you've already lost.

I've heard that also they came to that conclusion that we lose slower because our metabolism has already taken a hit and is a bit shot. Personally, I didn't loose much with the band, maybe 20 lbs., I was nowhere near goal. I immediately has issues with it post op. That being said my new surgeon who did my revision doesn't feel like it should be an issue getting to 170 and even 160 which is about a 120-130 loss. It may take longer but I didn't gain all this weight overnight either. I will admit stalls are frustrating as hell, there is no consistency in losing. Time of the month bloat and Water retention is evil and messes with your head. I began to workout 6 days a week at 4 weeks post-op, cardio and strength. I always eat my Protein first and if it's not a day where I can meet my protein requirements Premier is there aS a pinch hitter for me. Like the others I log all food that I put in my mouth, even the occasional bad stuff. Just take it one day at a time. Best of luck!!

Awww thank you! [emoji5] Your doctor is right if you want it and work for it you'll see results. It is day and night from the band. People talk about band restriction, what?!? I was only ever stuck, sick or hungry for 9,5 years. This is a whole new ball game. I had a TON of scar tissue, it was all over my spleen and liver and everywhere else inside. It took the doctor forever to operate, my husband thought something terrible had happened.

You'll see the difference is incredible. I'm not very familiar with Hashimoto's, just try to research as much as you can about your condition and VSG. Even though we had that band mindset and should know how to eat post-op for me it was a learning experience and still is. A few bites of a Protein and I'm done. The band was never like that for me.

Any questions feel free to PM me.
