dfw1974 got a reaction from lizeth3498 in RA/fibromyalgia and consdering gastric sleeve
Hello, I also have RA and Fibro... I was sleeved on Dec 19th, 2016. As far as complications. The only thing I've really been dealing with is the vomiting and that I'm guessing is just from learning the amount that I can take I'm not even close to a fourth of a cup of intake... It's quite a bit less than that and I have to wait about 5-10 minutes before I can have anything else intake wise. Heartburn / acid reflux is a major problem, I take Prilosec now but it only helps for about half of the day, I don't know if I should be taking 2 a today... so I'm just going to switch up and try different over-the-counter Med. I'm not too terribly concerned about it because I'm sure it is just being able to find the right combination of meds it's going to work for me. As far as my fibro pain or anything of that nature, I haven't really been experiencing any pain since I have been at home recovering, if nothing else I feel that this is going to be better because of the weights Los will be easier on my bones and muscles. Best of luck.

Like someone else mention, when I attended the seminar this question came up. The surgeon conducted the seminar. He said you can try carbonated drinks such as beer, soda but you most likely won't like the way the sleeve reacts. He did say it would create a full feeling and gas.
I like this surgeon who I will be using because he didn't speak in terms of do's and dont's in excess.
He gave tons of information, I feel that's the most important tool in adjusting to life after WLS.

The belief that it will stretch your sleeve is nonsense. However, what it can do is cause you pain if you are still close out from your surgery. The pain is of course from gas. I will be one year out tomorrow and I drink diet pop every day. I think I began drinking it again close to 2 months outside of surgery.

Every day now. I started weighing myself everyday so I could see a pattern and detach my feelings from the scale.
I suggest not weighing at all the first month, then weighing weekly. Then once you are closer to goal or one year, weigh every day.

    Hello All...
Today I am 17 days post-op and it was the first day I did not vomit. I was able to get up and do some things around the house without having to sit and rest every 5-10 mins. It felt good to have some energy and be functioning like normal. I am down 22 pounds since my surgery day. Hot flashes are the worst, at least one every hour. I know that I am not getting all my Water and Protein in but I just keep trying. Looking forward to everyday for improvements! I had to push back my return to work day by a week since I have been struggling, hoping for next week returning to work. One good note, when I look in the mirror... I can see the loss in my face!!!

My 12 year old daughter has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease it is a very disabling disease. She has had 5 surgeries to keep her moving. This pass surgery was very hard on me to care for her because I was unable to move her the way I needed to because of my weight! I got sleeved to be able to get healthier to take care of my daughter.
I am one week post op and can already see changes, the first couple of days I was regrettful because of some complications but it was quickly taking care of. Today I am greatful for the opportunity and the ability to make the health decisions that I did.
    Best of luck!!

The past in in the past, and there is no amount of dwelling on it which will change it. Look forward to what the future brings, and resolve to be victorious one day at a time. You only have to do this for today, not tomorrow or the next. When tomorrow arrives, it is today, and you only have to do it for today. But if you dwell on the past, and contemplate the entirety of the future, it will crush you.

Hi there! I'm new and taking a look around. I've made an attempt to request a referral back in August... but I didn't return the centers call. My husband just went thru cancer treatment and it seemed like too much for our family. So now I'm trying again. The journey begins. Here's a recent picture of me from Xmas eve with my kids and husband....

How long was it before the pain from the gas left you? I'm 4 days post op today but just came home yesterday. Just wondering how long to expect this... I suspect most of my pain I'd actually more that than the actual surgery.

I am finally getting back into my shop and doing some heavier work now that my weight lifting restrictions are safely behind me. I work on our property in an old garage converted to a shop. The shop is only about 130' from the house, but once I get up there and get going, I tend to lose track of time. In the old days, I would work until I was so hungry I couldn't stand it, and then come down to the house and eat an enormous meal. That's one of the reasons I'm here today, I suspect.
Today, I discovered all old habits die hard. I've been real good about keeping on a tight schedule for eating. When I go to the shop, I always take a Protein Bar with me, and of course, the fridge is stocked with plenty of Water. Today proved to be my undoing though.
Just as I described, I went off to the shop, Protein Bar in hand (actually, it was in my shirt pocket). I was busily working on Mrs LittleBill's drawers (for the kitchen!). I came across a technical issue I wanted to check, so back down to the house I lumbered (do you see what I did there?). For some reason unbeknownst to me, I removed my protein bar from my pocket and laid it on my desk in my office. As I think back upon it, I am pretty sure I intended to eat it, but looking at the clock, it was not time. So I forgot about it.
With one problem solved, and another in the offing, but unnoticed, I headed back to the shop armed with the knowledge I needed to continue my drawer construction. One thing led to another to another to another. I had just one more task to finish, and I could take a break. Meanwhile, I was ignoring the increasingly frantic pleas from my tiny stomach to PUT SOMETHING IN HERE!!!!
My old habits had the bit in their teeth, and they ran with it. By the time I realized what I had done to myself, I was so hungry I was ready to eat my left arm. I had also gotten very irritable, and edgy. In all seriousness, it really did shock me. I was not prepared for the physiological reaction to not eating on time.
I will be stocking the shop with an ample supply of Protein Bars for future use. Chewing my arm off is not an option. And while wood might have Fiber, it sure doesn't have much protein.

Gas pains was the main thing but they kept telling me to burp while I was walking to help get the air out. Congrats and good luck!
