Travelher got a reaction from amf1025 in How do a choose a surgeon ?
Ask how many of (the surgery you want) they have done. I had a revision which is much more complicated than a bypass or sleeve alone. I could not find any experienced doctors in my province so I went out of province. The doctor I chose had done over 250 was head of Bariatrics at the local university. He explained the risks and his plans should he encounter x..y...or z. He also provided me with his own individual statistics for complications and issue which were significantly better than the average...

I had one in week 3 and again in week 5. I'm a slow loser though, so when I drop I get excited if it is a pound. Everyone is different

    Fiiiiinally.
I've heard a lot about the dreaded week 3 stall but I stalled from 7 days post op until week 3, then dropped 9 lbs this week! 3 lbs just since yesterday. I assume it was some Water I was holding onto that finally left because I know you can't actually lose 3 lbs over night, but it's sure good to see that scale move.
I was really feeling like this was a failure and waste of money (self pay), but now that I see it really was just a stall on the scale I feel newly motivated. I'll have to remember this for next time!

Travelher reacted to LipstickLady in 8 days out can I eat eggs and turkey sausage?
You were given no post op dietary instructions? :faint: My suggestion? Seek more help! I was on liquids at day 8, personally. There was no way I could have tolerated eggs, much less sausage. No amount of chewing would have helped.
I'm thrilled you feel great, but you can't possibly know how your incision line of your newly cut tummy looks. You may be healing well on the outside, but that is not at all indicative of how healed your staple line is.
Call your surgeon and get an appointment with his/her NP or NUT ASAP. If he/she is unreachable, call around for a 2nd opinion. Following a proper post op diet is crucial to good health.

My scale isn't moving either. I'm just silently screaming at it knowing I shouldn't be paying attention to the scale right now.

    60-70 grams a day 5. Weeks post op. 1 or 1.5 shakes a day

you likely won't feel the restriction until you start eating solid food. In the mean time, don't push it. Your nerves were cut during surgery and you're still healing - you don't want to do anything that will harm you
also, weight loss - most people have their first stall sometime during the first month after surgery. I had mine during weeks 2 and 3. Week 4 it broke and I lost like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. Just follow your plan and you'll lose the weight....

Travelher got a reaction from Diane Moro Abramowitz in Much slower weight loss when revision from lapband to bypass
glad for this thread. I gained a ton of weight when my band failed in the spring 40 lbs in a few months. Someone showed me a picture from the spring and all i could think was omg I look sooo big...then i checked my journal and i was 15lbs lighter than i am now. I was hoping that the "slower" weight loss post revision wouldn't be the case for me only because i gained so quickly. well I went from 7lbs/week in the 2 week pre op to about the same in the first 2 weeks. and now I'm fighting to lose a lb a week. Mentally I'm feeling so behind because I have a ways to go to get to pre-band failure and then i'll start feeling like I'm gaining ground as I work my way down to the pre-pregnancy weight. I'd love to hear from revisionists who did eventually hit goal. I need some inspiration right now...

I also had issues with the band. After my sons birth the lowest I got to was 205. I bounced between that and 220ish since. Then the band failed completely and I rocketed up to 260 in a few months. I exceed my pre band weight by 30lbs! I'm now 5 weeks post op and at my pre band high weight. Hopeful I can get down to my band low weight once again

from everything I've heard reflux is common with the sleeve. if it is an issue for you I would recommend bypass. if you look at some of the revision posts you will see people doing revisions from sleeve to bypass because of reflux.

could be. I hope it gets better. it is a visible hard lump about 4 inches in diameter as i (hopefully) lose weight if it doesn't soften it is going to be even more visible. (though not as visible as an extra 90 lbs

I know, right? I'm traveling for work in a couple of weeks. I'll be going out with colleagues, most of whom know about the surgery, so It won't be so awkward. It is annoying though. Usually with large groups someone orders appetizers for the table. That leaves an opening for the old "oh I'm stuffed, I filled up on appetizers"

I'm really open about my sleeve. My procedure wasn't covered by my insurance. I paid a pretty penny for it. I'm not much for fancy shancy stuff, but i pride my sleeve. It's my most fanciest accessory yet.

I took my wife out the night this thread was started, we went to a new and well-reviewed steakhouse, as we hadn't been out together in AGES and I was starting week 6, which was "try anything and see how you do with it" time, according to my nutritionist and surgeon (avoiding fats and sugars of course).
My wife up and mentions to the server that he shouldn't be surprised when I don't eat that much, and that it won't be due to the quality of the food...but that I just had weight loss surgery! I was surprised by it, but not really embarrassed...it doesn't really matter to me if someone knows, particularly not a stranger. But the waiter then revealed that he's "a boxer" too, because he has Crohn's disease...so not to worry!
That dinner did make me aware that this change is also a big one for my wife to handle. We couldn't get the appetizer that we both normally would have, because I couldn't eat it anyway (not and have any room for the steak), and I ate like 10% of my food...although I enjoyed it THOROUGHLY. She felt a little weird with me boxing up 90% and her taking home maybe 20% of hers. But the fact of the matter is, I feel like I actually enjoyed the meal MORE than I would have two months ago, and for the right reasons. The flavor was amazing, and I really appreciated it. I didn't just wolf it down.
For me, I don't really care what anyone thinks. I did this for myself, not for them.

I've had this happen a few times. At first I felt awkward about it, but then I realized why should I care? Even today, the cashier at Golden Corral made a comment about it. GC is probably my favorite place to pick stuff up after class. I can get lean grilled chicken breast, veggies and other healthy options and not have to worry about cooking lunch (I've tried leftovers but Chef Mike makes me ill - I think it is from the food dehydration) especially on days when my husband is at work. Either way, it usually comes to about $2 and some change for my lunch. "What do you have in there, a salad? " What does it matter to you? I'm not going to explain my life story and why my container only weighs a few ounces. That is my business, not yours.
