I bought a bra at Victoria's secret last week! I had to search for the one bra they have that goes up to my current size, but it was awesome compared to having to order all of my bras online.

I started at 224 pounds, BMI of 40, no comorbidities. I lost maybe 4 pounds pre-op, and 33 pounds in the 3 months since my surgery. It is both amazing to be losing this fast and awful to still be 187 pounds after all of this work and all of this weight loss.

There is no way those of us in the 35-40 BMI range can lose as much as fast as those who have BMIs of 50+, but there is also no reason to envy them. It will take them longer to reach their goals in the end.

I think the sleeve should available to people with a BMI of 35 and up, regardless of official comorbidities. I know that my sciatica, knee pains, back pains, etc. got started back when I was about the weight I am now. It would have been nice to have the surgery when I first needed it instead of waiting until I could prove that I *really* needed it.

If you can afford to pay out of pocket, I would say go for it. You will still feel a significant restriction and be able to lose weight relatively quickly.

What makes you think losing weight will affect your body's need for psych meds? I ask out of honest curiosity, because I feel like I've always had to fight to get the meds I need. For me, losing weight should help me reduce painkillers, antiinflammatories, Migraine meds, etc., but I have no intention of changing my psych meds unless my tolerance to them goes way down, in which case I would reduce the dosage, but not cut them out completely Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

I'm still on full liquids, so I haven't had any dumping yet. Really hoping to completely avoid it, TBH. My only cheats so far have been really well-chewed cheese and she, in tiny bites and not at the same time.
I have been very tempted by the sandwiches and pizza my fiance and our daughter have been eating while I've been away from the kitchen, but I know it isn't worth it. I will have those things in moderation in a few months. Right now I need to use this honeymoon period to get down to goal as fast as I can.

This morning I went to the first consult with the practice I chose, and the physician's assistant told me they do not do surgery on anyone who has borderline personality disorder or bipolar disorder.
Has anyone here had this issue? Were you able to find another practice that accepted you? Or were you able to convince the first practice to take you after all by citing relevant statistics? Any good articles I should read?
I'm 39 years old, so as anyone who knows about borderline personality disorder knows, I have aged out of the worst phase. I'm very stable now, have been with the same therapist for 3 years, have been on there same medications for 3 years (same meds I was on before I got pregnant), own my own home that is more than half paid off, have a daughter who is in kindergarten (have never had any custody or other parenting issues), have an employed partner who I have been with for 2 years, getting married next year.
Feeling very frustrated right now, but not ready to give up.

I agree with everything everyone has said here. WLS is a great tool and I do not regret it one bit, BUT, like any other tool, it only works if you work it. You are the only one who can know whether you need it, and whether you are ready to make the necessary lifestyle changes.

Completely depends on the insurance company. Make sure you know what your insurance company requires.

I lost about 25 pounds in a month before I noticed much difference in size. Now I've lost about 5 pounds in the last 2 months, but I'm down 3 sizes! Bodies are weird, but this surgery works if you give it a chance to work. Keep drinking Water, exercising and eating enough protein!

I was feeling sorry for myself because I've been up and down the same pound for a week. I did my measurements yesterday and when I look at the overall progress 3 months out, it makes me happy. I will get there, this isn't a quick fix. 😉

If you change the way you think about stalls you can end up liking them the most.
I like my stalls the best because I get the most physical changes during my stalls and my body improves. scale loss is kind of useless compared to the inch loss in stalls and my fat rearranging itself. During a stall I might lose a dress size, when I am dropping weight, I hardly ever get smaller, I just weigh less.

I'm here to tell you this is TOTALLY NORMAL! Rest easy folks, this is the magic of the allusive Metabolism. Oh man can it get bitchy too! lol!

So I've lost almost 200 lbs in 4 years. There are lots of times you will be doing everything right, exercise, eating, Water, Protein, sleep, etc. yet you will hit a pause. I hate calling it a stall because that implies the engine has stopped. It hasn't at all. In fact, it's working so hard it's decided it wants to slow down cause the body doesn't like to drop weight that fast.

But here's the trick. Keep measuring yourself. And this is the fun part:

Measure your head -because your head will probably lose weight too. Mine has. Though if you ask those that know me they will guess it was brains I was losing and not fat. ahaha!!
Measure your neck, upper arms, forearms, wrists, breast, rib cage, waist, wides part of the butt, hips, thighs and calfs.

Cause the things is we are doing a lot to our bodies and it is changing in ways it's hard to see. So measure yourself and then do it again in 2 weeks and 2 weeks and 2 weeks and so one. You will see that even when your weight doesn't drop your size is still changing.

I went through 8 weeks of not losing one single pound but I dropped 3 clothes sizes.
Last month I walked 12-15K steps a day, stuck to the protocol and and only lost 4 lbs the entire month. This month I've been slammed at work and got sick so I was only doing 5K steps a day and no stairs as I had a lung cold. Guess who dropped almost 20 lbs this month? lol! Yup.

So don't use the scale as your only beacon showing you your progress. Measure yourself as well. Also, the more you can move the more you should move. That was the other tell for me. "Oh! I can walk 1 mile in 17 minutes? How far can I go in 30???" or "OMG I can squat down and work on the project and then get back up and feel great!! I'm gonna squat and stand to do things as many times as I can!! This is so fun!" lol! i just love moving my body and the more I can move it the more I want to move it.

It's ok, I know this is a scary thing and pauses or stalls can really derail you - if you allow them to. But the scale is not your full story or journey so don't let it be your only tool to measure your success.

Thanks for writing this. I'm getting sleeved tomorrow and I'm simultaneously ready and not ready. The thought of backing out has crossed my mind several times, but only for a moment each time. I know this is the right thing for me to do.
The past 18 months of my life have been like your last 5 years; there has been so much death and so much loss in my family. Every time I lose someone else, I tell myself that I have to go on, I have to keep breathing and putting one foot in front of the other, but that I will not be able to do it if this happens again. Yet it keeps happening.
In a way, though, this is what tells me I can do this. I've lost so much already. I'm ready to lose all the weight that is holding me back. And I don't want to wait until I need joint replacements, until I have diabetes, etc.
More than anything, I don't want my daughter and my partner to have to lose me early due to heart disease or liver disease or any of the many things that are statistically more likely when you are morbidly obese.
Your story and your pictures are amazing! I can't wait to see what I can do when I've conquered my food addiction.

Thanks for all the support! The most frustrating thing was that she said it was their practice's policy because they didn't want to destabilize someone who was mentally stable by doing the surgery, because it was such a big lifestyle change. It made me feel like my level of stability wasn't a factor, or even was somehow a negative factor. I did leave a message for another practice and they called me right back and said they do not have the same policy, so I'm working on their paperwork now!

High weight was 224 in October, which put me at 40 BMI, to qualify for surgery with no comorbidities.
Surgery weight was 221.6 on 1/26/17.
    1 week post-op official weigh-in was 213.8 on 2/2/17.
    Current weight around 211.
Days 1&2 were miserable, I could barely swallow a tablespoon of broth and a tablespoon of Gelatin each day. I got up and walked the hospital halls for 10-20 minutes about six times each day.
Day 3 was much better and I've been getting my Proteins (60-120 grams) and liquids (64-100 ounces) in every day since day 4. I was doing 5 minute walks around the house at the start of every waking hour until my post-op appointment. Now I'm working out 3x/day, usually two 20-minute walks plus one 40-minute workout with weights.

I would not want to be on it long-term, but my new stomach has been through a lot with surgery, so I don't think it is unreasonable to take it for a couple of months.
