Yeah, seems to have been extremely variable experiences both here and somewhere else I posted.
It's interesting, we say 'everyone is different' but we're not, that's why things like public health campaigns work, because you can identify oft common behaviours and trends. I wonder what people whom the band has failed have in common with each other that has been different for the people for whom it has.

Sounds like a plan. I will surely email her in the morning, as well as the dean of students. We have a 3 day policy before your financial aid comes into play

It might be too early to go back.
I recommend you talk to someone in your disability services/dean of Students office or similar about possible accommodations: whether it is needing extra time out of class, or something else.
One thing I found challenging soon after surgery was mental focus/fuzziness. You may experience some of that which could impact your school work.

I agree. Focus on the Protein, take a shake or something similar just in case, drink lots of Water, and skip the alcohol.

They are not able to remove 100% of the gas unfortunately. After my gallbladder surgery I had gas to settle into my left shoulder and it was horrible pain that lasted for hours.
I also asked my surgeon if I could take Gas-X, and he said no, he had rather I didn't, but instead he preferred I walk it off to be sure to get rid of it quicker. So I guess that's what I will do, however I did buy some and may use it once I get home from the hospital if I see that I need it.

My understanding is that they do remove much of the gas but it does land in pockets. When i had my gall bladder removed the pain between my shoulders was awful. Walking it off will help.

At my last Pre-Surgery visit I asked about Gas X. The Nurse Practitioner told me that the Surgeon removes the gas after surgery. I have been reading this forum for a few months now and I see people complaining about the gas pain all the time and to walk to relieve it. Has any one heard of this removal? I have one last pre-op appointment two days before surgery where I actually see the doctor and will ask him then.

Help I went in for my initial consultation and wanted the Gastric Sleeve the doctor suggested the Duodenal switch surgery. I'm 6ft2 450lbs and it took me a lot to take this first step and I was confused and disappointed. My bmi was like 60 and I was wondering what your thoughts are. I read the pros and cons and I know the DS has more risk but he seemed to push it. I have mild diabetes and sleep apnea and major knee problems and blood pressure otherwise healthy. Age is 58.
I'm a newbie just joined tonight and read lots of encouraging stories.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Thank you all. I was just curious as to why only diluted..when i'm allowed to have vegetable juice, not diluted. I'm sure it has something to do with the sugar content as well

Sugar content. Fluid passes through your stomach into the small intestine quicker now, and juice has a lot of sugar. So you're risking dumping syndrome if a bunch of sugar hits your small intestine quickly. In general, I'd stay away from juices now, unless they are "diet" (like a diet cranberry I've had before) with very low sugar content. It's pointless carb calories and something to move away from with your diet moving forward, anyway. I am now getting my fruit servings in Dole peach fruit cups and squeeze puree packets from Trader Joe's. That works well. But juice I'd avoid.

Im not sure if this is the full answer but one of the vets here said juice is very acidic. Acid on acid can intencify tummy issues. Also juice is very high in calories and carbs.
I was given diluted juice as an option because some people (me included) have a hard time with plain Water after surgery.

I'm 9 days post op and was just wondering if anyone knew why when we drink fruit juice it has to be diluted? On my menu plan the NUT gave me for after surgery, it says we can drink fruit juice, but it has to be diluted. Was just wondering why? Thanks!

Does anyone know if blue shield let's you go online to see updates on your submission for surgery? I've been hearing that they have 5 days to make a decision but don't know if that's true, and how ever long it takes to approve or deny I would like to just check online instead of calling everyday. Thanks in advance.

    Ok guys,
(Said with a big sigh )
I'm 37 , 5ft flat and 215. I was never really a big girl until I hit 25 :/. I tried WW, Atkins and counting calories. I joined a gym , but it's sooo intimidating. So I'm headed for my surgery consult next Wednesday. I've been researching and reading this sight for tons of insight.
My biggest concern now is getting my fluids in and Hair loss. I've started Biotin twice daily, trying to offset some hair loss.
Anybody from the south knows that food is always gonna be an obstacle. We love our food.
    Any tips would be great.

Honestly I don't have a clue. Most likely because they found something else that they can bill your insurance for.

Just wait until you start putting some solids in your stomach, you're definitely going to feel it and that's why you want to go slow and chew thoroughly. The liquid diet stuff goes through pretty fast, it doesn't spend a lot of time in the stomach. The harder to digest stuff does, and you'll definitely start experiencing the full feeling when you start on that stuff.

Hello. I had my surgery Oct 4th. 2 weeks out and still on very mostly liquids. My concern is I don't feel any restriction what so ever. I am sipping my Water and eating Jello and cream of wheat and chicken broth, etc. but everything goes down too easy. I have read where others have a hard time just getting water down. I'm so afraid this won't work for me. I had a lap band and lost over 100 lbs. to below my goal. Has anyone had a similar experience. hopefully the restriction will kick in later.
    thanks

I got a call today that my first NUT class wasn't accepted so now I have one more on the 31st of this month. I was scheduled to have surgery next Tuesday. I am so disappointed and discouraged at this point. Already into day 7 of the 14 day pre op liquid diet. For those that have surgery scheduled for this month, make sure everything is good to go so you don't have to go through this.

Naw, I'm on week four now and I can do a 1/2 cup at mealtime too, or close to it. Your calories if you're eating the right stuff are still incredibly, ludicrously low...don't sweat it.

I had rny and I felt the same way. 2 weeks out today. Then today every little thing bothered me. I had 1/4 of grilled chicken chewed very fine. I thought I was going to die. Mind you nothing not one has bothered me since I left the hospital. Some say nerves take a while to feel again. Even Water I feel move thru more than I did

I wish I would have known that it wouldn't work for me and it would cause me more problems. That I would have episode after episode for the last 5 years. And now have to have a revision to rny. I wish I would have known I would gain all my weight back and my comorbidities would all have come back. I wish I would have gone with the rny in the first place
