  1. From someone who has been there and had 5-way-bypass surgery for my heart, I implore you, please don't take chest pain lightly. Make an appt. ASAP with your PCP and at least have an EKG which can rule out a significant amount of problems. Don't leave anything to chance please.
  2. Wow, I thought it said I fell from the Popular Tree , sadly it is the Poplar tree, which reminds me of something funny my grandson said. His dad was putting up a shed in the yard with a plywood floor and Dakota asked what is the floor made of? His dad said Plywood. Dakota scratched his little head and said, wow I never saw a Ply tree before. Out of the mouths of kids. We all got a good laugh out of this one as we explained how plywood was made (to the best of our ability)
  3. I think the flame-o-gram happened because I sent her a PM asking to be let alone and got a response "that I was a mess"....OK then, well like I said I kind of am. I personally took it private to avoid any conflict on the board which I thought was the right thing to do....apparently I'm not a good thinker either. Anyway, thanks all for your support and encouragement. I really appreciate this forum and all the info I get from it and the support of people.
  4. Out of my surgeon's mouth (Honest to God) was if you have to crush a pill mix it with a little ice cream. He truly said that, and I won't soon forget it. I think he means a spoonful, but hey a spoonful is better than none especially if it is Blueberry Cream Pie....Ummmmmmmmmm Mayfield's makes the best icecream. One more reason I can't leave Tennessee. If my daughter haden't been there when he said take it with ice cream...she never would have believed it.
  5. It hasen't even been a mo. since my knee surgery but I've had little relief. The first few days were OK because they put cortisone in it in the OR...made me feel better but it isn't. The other knee is now bothering me and I know it is arthritis and when I get home I will probably have to have these old knees replaced. I was hoping a thinner me would help some, but I have yet had time to find out if that will help or not. Thanks for all the positive thoughts. I'll just give this thing more time.
  6. I am doing as instructed by my dr. and cutting pills and not crushing them. I take an extremely tiny pill, Toprol XL, which should never be crushed. He said if I have no problem taking them he has no problem. I guess everyone should listen to their own dr's. advise. I have also been moved to mushies. I hope that is alright that I'm doing as told. I still get very full with less than a cup of anything. I've had absolutely no problems so will continue along with the dr's. advice. It's what I'm paying him for. I'm sure not giving anymore about RNY to lap-band. The subject is closed for me. Donna, my entire post was of course not directed at you. I just wanted to set the record straight that as of today, this moment, I don't care what anyone chooses to have whether it is RNY, DS or lap-band. Whatever they choose is their personal choice and I should not even have given an opinion on it. It was a bad day...a bad day for a friend who had RNY...and I guess I voiced more than I should have. With that being said this subject is dropped for me, along with colon cleansings and cheating Take care. Have a great day.
  7. Blackspot Jeannie...this sounds a little like a spider of sorts, poisonous no doubt, so beware. My name isn't even Jeannie, but hey as pirates go the name is cool. If you see black spots it's me...and please don't step on me.
  8. I a sticking to what the dr. said except for one little "glitch". I don't feel invincible at all, just lucky to be able to swallow pills. I am lucky I have a dr. and nursing staff that call every few days and answer all questions. I have been told to break the tablets if they are bigger than a pencil eraser and otherwise not worry. I will be seeing my dr. in a few weeks again and perhaps I will see a big difference after a fill. I'm kind of playing this day by day as I have no experience to go by. I hope you get to feeling lots better and your cruise goes well. My dr. merely switched me more to the mushy phase to see how it works out, although a cup is all I can eat even without a fill. I just feel like I coud eat most "anything" is what I meant, but my tummy won't hold more than a cup. Thanks for the good advice and lots of luck to you.
  9. I pray this subject is over with for discussion....I think it has been discussed to death, and the fact remains what is right for one person is not always right for another, so why argue it. Me, I loved my colon cleanse OK I didn't love it.....but it did the job. For others who despise the idea my great idea is Don't Do It, but don't be critical of those of us that did. OK, AMEN to the subject as Telly said it has been rehashed enough and continues to show up every day.
  10. I have not heard of either of these procedures, and wonder why a lapband would be needed with the sleeve surgery. I am a retired nurse, but I've been retired a number of years now and am not up on the newest things out there. I thought Gastric Bypass took quite awhile to complete, but I'm no expert. I think you will be better served by others on here that have more knowledge of present operations.
  11. My experience so far since being banded on July 18 amounts to not much of anything, except some port pain and knee pain (completely unrelated). I can take my pills; drink any amount of anything; and I have absolutely no restriction. I have heard on here that some dr's. put in some fill at the time of surgery and perhaps that is the difference. I have a 10 cc Vanguard band with absolutely no fill, yet I've read on here about people having some fill put in at surgery. I guess this is simply dr. descretion. I feel like I don't even have a band except for the port pain which is getting better by the day. Last night it allowed me to sleep on my side. I'm still taking liquid Lortab, but mostly for the knee pain and will soon be going to just Tylenol. My recovery has been completely uneventful and although not hungry I have to admit I cheated one time with some refried Beans and nachos. I had nothing happen to me because of it, but I do know it was wrong and I won't do it again. I wish I had some indication the band was there, because I can chug Water down and also grape juice (which came highly recommended). I mix some Crystal Light with my water as I'm no water lover, but I don't have any worthwhile experiences to share...not even a gas pain. Is God good to me or what???? I guess he knows I'm in endless pain with my knees and is going easy on me with the band. For those having problems make sure you get all your water and Protein (especially protein). I still drink my protein every day. I am still a PB virgin, but I bet after my first fill I will relate to what you are all talking about. Best of luck to you. You've done a wonderful thing for yourself.
  12. 3 Loves is one of the most liked people on here and would never slam anyone. On the other hand the other person is a whole nother ballgame which I don't want to get into to. Thank you though for your concern.
  13. Thanks for the help Elizabeth. I appreciate it.
  14. The first step is always admitting there is a problem, and you have done that. I hope God will guide you every step of the way in getting the help you need and deserve to live a wonderful life. You sound like a great person. Remember you always have support here. Good Luck.
  15. I'm thinking after a fill things could be completely different for me. I take nothing that is time release and have been swallowing them with a lot of Water with no problem. I just wondered if there was a specific reason for crushing them I didn't know about. I will continue taking them as I am, but I will be aware after my first fill I may not be able to do so. I also wonder as I read on here why some doctors put in fill at the time of surgery and others do not. My surgeon puts no fill in at the time of surgery and I have a 10 cc Vanguard band. I guess I have little restriction right now, but know that things could change. Thanks for the answer.
  16. Elizabeth, I asked this question in another thread. I take no meds that are time release and can swallow all others fine. Is it OK to swallow them if you can. I guess that is my question. Someone said "you should always crush them" and I don't know if there is a reason for this or not. My dr. told me I would be taking my meds with no trouble down the road. I can take them with no trouble now, but not sure if I'm doing the right thing. I have liquid pain med and the rest of my meds are not time release. Do you think it is OK to simply swallow them. I haven't found anything good that crushed pills taste good in yet
  17. I lost 10 lbs. on my post-op diet and thought I would drop a huge amount afterward. I haven't lost what I thought I should, but the nurse had told me that the IV fluids would prevent the weight loss, and to just roll with it. I bet one of these days you just wake up and poof some of that weight is gone. Good luck to you.
  18. For the most part there are nothing but terrific people on here. I guess in any forum or anything else there are going to be people you don't always get along with...that's just life. We are all different, but for the most part I like everyone. Just wanted you to know why my mood is not always great...been laying down today with this knee and dreading the road ahead to get it better, but with friends like you and God by my side how on earth can I fail. Again, thanks.
  19. Yesterday I ate some refried beans and nachos. I know I shouldn't have and I won't do it again, but sometimes real life gets in the way of our good intentions and things happen. Tomorrow is another day for both you and me. Family can be tough. I'm staying with family right now and love them to death, but there are days enough is enough. Keep your head up high. You have lots of friends on here.
  20. I let someone know on here by private message I didn't appreciate a response they gave on here to me, and in return I was told "I am a mess". Well perhaps there is a bit of truth to that statement. I have had 2 surgeries in 2 weeks, one on my knee and the other my lap-banding. The surgery on my knee has not helped and the pain is excruciating and I can't take anti-inflammatories, so I remain in pain. That is enough to make anyone kind of a "mess" but not enough to provoke an attack. I know I have to keep on walking and walking is extremely painful at this point. Down the road I need complete knee surgery, so I'm sure my disposition could be improved. I made a comment a couple weeks ago on a thread about being somewhat amazed that Mexican dr's. did not require a post-op fasting. I made this because I truly thought all dr's. required this. I apologize to anyone I offended. It was just that it took me by surprise. I try very hard to stay away from those very threads but this time I didn't realize it and didn't succeed. I have since played the offending party that thinks I'm a "mess" on ignore and she will remain there. I apologize to anyone else who thinks I'm not myself the last few days, but it is simply the knee pain and not the lap-banding that is making me somewhat grouchy. I'm not looking forward to another major surgery and was hoping this arthroscopic surgery for a torn medial meniscus would help....it didn't. I have met some wonderful friends on here, among them 3 Loves, Telly, Ceparano and many more, but there are those that attack at every given opportunity and to them I say please just don't talk to me. It won't hurt you and it won't hurt me. I hate putting anyone on ignore and it has only been one person. Most of you are great. Please know that and bear with me.
  21. My surgeon told me for the first few weeks I would have to crush my pills, and eventually I would be able to swallow them. I'm not sure of his reason for this, because I am able to swallow the pills just fine. Is there some reason that they should be crushed anyway even though I can swallow them? I saw something earlier that said that say even if you can swallow them you shouldn't. Anyone have any real experience with this and do you know if it hurts you to just swallow them if you are able. Thanks. I'm adding an addition to this on July 24, as I talked to the nurse today and she said because my pills are so small and one is time release that it is fine if I'm able to swallow it. I take Toprol XL and it's no bigger than a birth control pill (and yeh they had them in my day too) I don't take any big pills whatsoever...don't even come close to a pencil eraser. Thanks for all the help.
  22. There is a world of difference between these two people. 3 Loves I adore...the other is on ignore and was merely being a smark alec. Easy enough to ignore those that know no better, and it is done. Betina, go back and read that post again if you will. Perhaps you will pick up what the rest of us did from it.
  23. Telly, don't ever leave here. You are a great asset to this forum and I personally love you to death.
  24. It has only taken me one time to learn a valuable lesson. I ate mostely refried Beans but there is no good reason for that either, even though it is allowed. There were some nachos in there....I was bad. Fortunately I got no gas and just had the misgivings that wow I can eat with this thing. I thought I would be able to swallow little and was surprised. I won't make the same mistake again, and except for one person you are all extremely supportive and I thank you. I see the dr. in 5 weeks and I'm sure from there things will begin to work more like they should. 3 Loves, you don't have to come and kick my butt I will adhere to the rules. You have my word.
