I'm with ReneK, I wouldn't do anything differently. I did what my Surgeon's Guidelines told me and I followed his instructions totally. I hear people saying all the time that they wish they would have done their Surgery sooner, but for myself, I wouldn't say I wished I had done it sooner. I did check intoit but never had insureance and was raising our family of 4 so there was no way I could pay for it. I truly believe that if I would have had WLS earlier I WAS NOT ready!! Waiting until I was 57 years old. I had grown up so much and was ready to commit to myself. My kids were grown with kids of their own. So for myself waiting was a GREAT GREAT thing for me. I don't even know if I would have had the GRIT to do what I needed to do.

I don't think I'd do anything differently. The thing I'm glad I did was follow my doctors orders to the letter, pre and post op.

My weight loss is also slowing down, and I am at a similar point. Remember our boost right after surgery was partially from our liquid diets and from healing. Our swelling is down now and we should be able to eat a little more. I haven’t lost anything in 20 days, making this my longest stall so far, but I’m not gaining either. Log everything for a week if you’re concerned that you’re getting in extra calories or something, but I’m not too worried. Just focused on making 40 more pounds in the next 6 months. (I lost 80 pounds in my first 6 months, so I’m already expecting to lose much slower.)

If you're not happy with your weight loss, exercise more, eat better quality food, change up your diet... Etc. If your expectations are so high, change your habits to meet those expectations. I'm happy with a pound a week, sometimes I go 9 or so days with no change, and then a big weight drop happens. I still don't classify that as a stall. It's just my body adjusting.
More importantly, the more stress you have, the more your cortisol levels rise, the more cortisol, the more it encourages your body to store fat. Chronic stress, worrying will not only slow your weight loss but maybe put pounds on.

I've suffered from depression and have been medicated for it my entire adult life. At my psych eval, he would ask me questions, and this is how I would answer:
Psychologist: Do you struggle with depression/anxiety?
    Me: Not when I'm medicated.
Psychologist: Do you have feelings of dread, obsessive thoughts, etc?
    Me: Not when I'm medicated.
    I passed with flying colors.
PS: It's the darnedest thing, but since I've had surgery over 2 years ago, I have not needed medication for depression. I still struggle with it periodically, but what's different is I can come out of it, where I couldn't before. I don't know if the surgery has changed the chemistry in my brain or what?
    Weird, hu?

This is going to sound harsh, but I don't mean it to be. You had surgery, they didn't. You have to learn to control your food choices, not theirs. They are not ready to change their lifestyle and probably don't appreciate you telling them what and how to eat, the same way you probably didn't like to be told that you were eating crap prior to making your lifestyle change. People have to make those changes on their own terms.
However, there is another issue here. I feel that your boyfriend and mom are being unsupportive if they aren't even trying to be mindful of what they eat in front of you. I don't know your relationship, but if my boyfriend (we've been together 6 years and live together) did that to me so soon after surgery, we would be done. It's disrespectful and shows that he isn't invested in your success. He doesn't have to eat well, but should at least be able to not eat crap in front of you for a few weeks while you adjust.

Today I received the amazing news that I've been approved for the sleeve! Wahoooooo I'm so excited right now I'm also kinda freaking out because it's happening so quickly. I started seriously looking into this back in June/July. Of course I've been contemplating it for years but I'm still nervous. I know this will be the best decision I make but I also know that it won't be a walk in the park. Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated!

I did a low carb diet for six months pre-op (and lost 99 pounds by surgery day), so I am continuing to keep my carbs below 20 even as I progress through these stages (clear liquids, full liquids, purees, soft, etc.). The downside in that is that there are often limited low/no carb options early on. For instance, I am really on full liquids from Day 10 until Day 21 because all of the new items that you can have at Day 14 are full of carbs (no sugar applesauce, ripe banana, cream of wheat, oatmeal, etc.).
My plan is to go right back to my meat and non-starchy vegetables diet with the help of the sleeve's restriction once my new tummy can tolerate those things.
This approach is obviously not for everyone, but it has worked wonders for me. Carbs are my addiction and enemy, and I am going to have to minimize them as much as possible for the rest of my life. I'm sure you'll get some other helpful suggestions from other posters, but I'd recommend that you ask your nutritionist as well.
    Good luck!

Great job Shelly!!! I would have to say have the healthy carbs, like starchy and nonstarchy, veggies fruits at this point where you are I think healthy carbs are important. I'm on a low carb diet, I'm getting ready for my surgery and I'll have carrots broccoli a little bit of Beans I can't have no more than 30 grams of carb a day, to be honest I don't even get to 30 it's probably less than 20 grams of carbohydrates. I don't eat no breads no rice. I eliminated all of those!!

I'm curious why they thought you were 'malnourished'... and what exactly was 'no carbs', because that's a really hard diet to do! LOL cheese, veggies, and fruits all have carbs.
I stay low on the carb rung, but I did low carb several years back and had great results with it... I know it works, and I was very healthy back then as well.
I aim for under 50g of carbs, going closer to 30. And the only carbs I try to have are ones from non starchy vegetables, Beans, and cheeses.

    Hey peeps!
I'm 3.5 months out and I've lost 61 pounds! What I was wondering is how many carbs should I have per day. Also I've been shooting for 60-80 grams of Protein a day but it's very difficult. I emailed my dietician these same questions but I wanted to ask you guys. Also, I lost weight quicker when I avoided carbs altogether but my PCP said I was malnourished and to eat some carbs. Thanks for any advice!!

I have always heard that complex carbs like the ones found in fruits and veggies are the best carbs to incorporate into your diet. The surgery carbs and bread carbs are the ones you want to stay away from.

Teeny tiny is what I hear most often. My boys who I see every few months are the most shocked by my weight loss. They have only ever known me as obese so they both are freeked out and tell me I am too skinny.
Oh and because I am tall I have heard a few references to my old favorite string bean. (Before I had my children I was tall an stick thin and was called string bean relentlessly by class mates)
If only I had know how much I would appreciate being called a string bean now. I have worked hard for it so I just smile when it happens.
My dermatologist who sees me every 10 weeks is shocked at how "teeny tiny" I am. He saw me at my worst in the hospital, 315lbs with a infection that could have taken my life so we are very close. He saved my life once literally.
Wait until he sees me in August! I had my first plastics and he is going to be happily shocked at the results.
