Go with Hiatal Hernia repair ... recovery, scars, etc are almost identical. It's no one's business but this seems to put them at ease. It also explains why you're eating the way you have to eat for the following few months.
I mention this because even if you're splitting meals with your spouse, for a long time, you will literally take a few bites and have to be done. Then you sit and visit with a full plate of food ... it can be a little awkward.
I personally just don't have time to explain all my reasons for why I needed to do this. I'm not really trying to be sneaky or secretive but my weight issues are just not something I feel comfortable discussing. If people know, and then I don't talk about it, it becomes and even bigger deal and I just don't want it to be a deal at all!

I know many people just come out and tell what went on but this to me anyway is extremely personal. Someone did approach me (at church of all places) and quite loudly said, "I heard you had weight loss surgery!" I just looked at her and said, "REALLY? Who told you that?" She kind of sputtered at that point and moved away saying she didn't want to break a confidence. I just looked at her with a smile and said that's as good as anything else I've heard. She was obviously guessing and trying to make me spill the Beans by saying it at church. I don't think most people will get into your business but some will and you have to be prepared for those people. One of the things I said when asked about my losing weight was, "well, you know I was in the hospital for a bit, after that "scare" I knew I had to lose weight and my Drs insisted that for my future health it was imperative. So I set my mind to it and I am doing it with my Drs supervision" Then you can go on to tell them your strict diet plan and that you weigh in every month at the Drs office. etc. Sometimes by the time you have talked their ear off on diet, exercise etc they are sorry they even asked. Yes, sometimes I feel like I'm lying but then again I don't feel badly lying to people who are gossip mongers, just nosy etc. I am doing something very personal and it's no one else business. Do what you have to do for YOU. No one else has a say so in what you do for YOU. It's just that personal. If you want to tell the world be my guest but if you choose to keep it your secret then it's up to you how you handle it.

Cut out dairy and flour based products. You will see results. You are worth it.

If your weight hasn't budged in 5 months, then it sounds like you have reached your new set point. Going forward, weight loss will be similar to preop. Try not to fret, since you still have your sleeve to help you
From the numbers, your ideal weight is 100lbs less than your surgery weight. (Important question.. did you lose weight right before surgery? If you did, that impacts what I say next).
To be considered a medical success, you need to have lost 50% of excess weight within 18 months postop. So that would be 50lbs. Having only lost 37 this far.. if you don't lose more, then surgery DID fail you.
So let's try to get over this hump, and make it a success story. (The good news is that 208 IS a lot better than 245, so at least there's that.)
Step 1. Go back to basics. Try to prepare as much of your food at home from single-ingredient items as you can. Fast foods and processed foods are how many of us gained weight to begin with. I believe there are hunger-inducing additives in many of the products.
Step 2. Make sure you stay up on your medical stuff. If you have low thyroid levels it can cause problems with weight loss, etc.
Step 3. Count and measure everything. Try to stay around 1000-1100 calories a day, 60g Protein, lots of Water. Exercise will help at this point. No added sugar and no white flour (getting rid of those two things will basically knock most processed foods off the "ok" list).
    Example meal plan:
Breakfast: 4oz cottage cheese and 4oz blueberries
Lunch: 1 egg (cooked how you like) and 3oz pinto Beans and 2T salsa
Snack: 1oz Peanut Butter on celery
Dinner: 3-4oz hamburger patty with 1/2 cup green beans or canned spinach.
    Calorie free beverages only.

Cut out the frappe, but you knew that.

Go back to the Protein first, veggies if there's room. Some people can also do some other complex carbs (whole grains and such) some can't.

I had gastric sleeve surgery 11/9/2016. I am 5' 4.5" and weighed 245 on the day of surgery.
Fast forward nearly 10 months, I'm down 37#. I have fluctuated between 35 and 40 pounds for the past 5 months. I'm sick with disappointment. I thought this would be easier. I cashed out nearly all of my 401K to pay for this surgery because my insurance wouldn't cover it.
What is wrong with me? Am I doomed to be fat forever?? I thought the purpose of WLS was to make it easier to lose weight.
Can someone share experiences that helped you get back on track? What is a typical daily menu for you?

Resetting your pouch is a fad diet and is not something that is recommended. Instead, you need to focus on the basics:
    1. Eat dense Protein first followed by non-starchy vegetables
    2. Limit snacking
    3. Don't drink your calories
    4. Don't drink during meals (stop 30 mins before and 30-60 after)
    5. Use an app like MyFitnessPal (or journal) to track everything you eat in a day to monitor total calories consumed
    6. Make sure you're drinking at least 64 oz of Water a day
    7. Don't eat slider foods and if you're eating sweets, stop, go cold turkey so you can end the cravings; it may be difficult but stay the course and it'll get better

    Good luck!

I'm new here as well. Downloaded a book all about VSG & a link to this site was in the book! I have 1 nutrition meeting & 3 required lifestyle meetings left. Monday is my meeting for sleep study. Not the study itself. I really hope I don't need. Plus my advocate at the surgeons office said that if anything holds things up it will be a sleep study because they are backed up. Can't send paperwork to ins co without sleep study. I hope I'm not denied!!! She doesn't think I will be. Hope is to have surgery end of Oct. No date yet tho. I'm worried how the sweet heck I will do 1-2 weeks liquid only diet???? I will be sleeping. That's my main worry right now [emoji23] best wishes to you all on this journey!

Need help getting back on track as well. I started out awesome and I've only list 72 pounds in 9 months. I was going to the gym at least 3 times a week. One of my problems is that I commute to and from work over 140 miles a day. So it's so easy to make excuses on why I can't get to the gym. But one of the things I've noticed is that I'm ratting more than 4oz at a time. How do I reset my pouch. I've done so well that I need to think of me again. Any suggestions would be awesome.

Friday, December 16, 2016 I was 4 weeks post op VSG. I have lost 31lbs. I feel great and I am walking. sleeping on my stomach again. I eat most any healthy food I want but since surgery I can not eat eggs or Cereal in milk. I have joined the gym and will start working out the week after Christmas. I am still having a time with Constipation. Twice a week I am now having to take a dulcolax and every day I chew a Fiber. If anyone is thinking about having sleeve procedure it is the best thing I ever did. Will keep you posted. When I reach 6 months I will post pics.
