SandyinFL reacted to Tessa-VSG in I have reached my ultimate weight goal
Exactly a year ago I had the sleeve done, and today marks my 45 kg total loss.
I never thought i would ever come close to the number i now see when i stand on the scale "59 kg" last time i was that weight i was in elementary school!
The surgery was the best decision i have made in my life, people always told me weight doesnt matter thin or fat big or small it wont change who you are. Well it did, first with my confidence. I learned to embrace how i look now, i became more comfortable in my skin which is something i failed to do in past years.
I don't try as hard as i used to to fit in, i don't seek peoples acceptance of me. And on a physical health level, i don't take half of the medicine i used to take when i was obese, i can be more active i have so much energy to anything i put my mind to.
Even if i don't look the way i imagined myself to. I still love where i am and how far i came.
My stomach doesn't look perfect, but im so grateful for it.

My arms flap, but its only a small price to pay for your mental and physical health.
If you're struggling in anyway or if you're second thinking the surgery, just know that you're the one that can make it work. Set your eyes on the end goal and you will defiantly get there.
Its not easy, at all! It takes commitment and patience.
The road can be long and hard, but in the end it will all be worth it all!
This is how I am feeling after losing 100+ lbs and i hope you all have a successful weight loss journey!

Oh, gee. I'm only one week out, but even before surgery I looked like gravity had just beat the living hell out of me. If I lose a significant amount of weight, I'm fairly certain I'll have to have a tummy tuck. Either that or haul my stomach around in a wheel barrel. I won't feel one bit guilty about surgery. But I do know what you mean about seeing only the flaws. Having been a *relatively* normal weight person most of my life, losing weight with the sleeve will not be like returning to my old self; it'll be like returning to my old self with 17 years of wrinkles and a ton of excess skin added in. I've already started bracing myself for a bit of depression. So I understand how you feel and don't think your complaints are unreasonable. Every person's situation is different. You feel what you feel.
That said, I hope to eventually be more grateful for pain relief and increased mobility than depressed about excess skin. (Health woes and pain are what drove me to surgery.) Only time will tell. *sigh*

That's kind of how I feel, too. I don't dislike eating, but the food I liked before surgery now leaves me like, "Meh. It's okay, but I can take it or leave it."

Yep, I agree all around. I'm an adult so take complete ownership of my own eating, good and bad. "Porkchopgate"! Love that term!
Having said all of that, I inadvertently set myself up and had a very bad food day today, first one since surgery six weeks ago. Not gonna ask for sympathy. Don't need it, anyway. Confession cures all.

You didn't ruin your sleeve. You temporarily lost your way, and now you're back on the right path.
I find it courageous that you came here and admitted what happened. Keep that courage and you will do great!

Oh, and another thing... at first, I would try to eat a certain amount of Protein (say 2 oz.) so that I could stay on track with my Protein goals, and this was a major part of the reason I would overeat and have pain.
Some days you won't get to your protein goal, and there's really not much you can do about it. The sleeve only allows what it allows. Don't beat yourself up over it, and it's not worth the pain of trying and overeating!

I had Carnation Instant Breakfast Lite many times, (and still do because I'm three weeks out tomorrow). This was on the list from my doc and nutritionist. Usually, I add a scoop of unflavored Protein powder, too. I finally figured out that using my Bullet smoothie-maker mixes the Carnation mix, Protein, and milk together better. It actually tastes pretty good, although I've had to play around with the amount of Protein Powder to add. Even though it's unflavored, it has a little aftertaste if I use the full heaping scoop full.
My doc also okayed Cream of Wheat during this full liquid period. I add milk to it, and it really hits the spot. I've also been able to eat sugar free pudding and yogurt. The Oikos Triple Zero is pretty good. I also have had cream of Tomato Soup a few times, when my tum-tum is feeling queasy.
I don't know what your doc had okayed, though. Seems like every doc is different.

My throat hurt for the first week or so. I think it was from the tube they put in my throat during surgery. It gradually went away. I'm only about three weeks out, so it probably was better before the end of the second week.

I'm still pre-surgery, but here is what I'm afraid of if I don't have the surgery - the amount of over eating I am capable of. It wasn't unusual for me to sit and have 4 bowls of Cereal in a row, or 1 pint of ice cream, or 2 bags of potato chips, or 6 pieces of toast with butter, or 6 pieces of fish and chips with lots of tartar sauce and a medium, or a pound of raw almonds, or a huge chicken teriyaki with probably 2 cups of rice. Now keep in mind I typically wouldn't eat all day at work, and then come home and over eat. And all that food really didn't cause me to gain weight too much - I just stayed around my 250-256lb mark. I would try occasionally to cut back, but didn't for long. Tried Weight Watchers, Atkins, Phen/Phen, HCH (?) shots, and for the last 22 years since having my son I have always been over 200. (most I lost was on the Phen/Phen - good think I didn't die I guess). That was just before they outlawed it, and since then it was a steady climb back up to 228 - 236 - 242 - 249, etc until for the last couple of years I've been at 250+. I'm just saying that I know I need help controlling the amount of food I eat so surgery is it for me. If I can eat like I was and only gain very slowly, then I imagine eating better and much less will make the weight drop off. Don't wait like me to be 58 and doing this - do it now

So, I had a long hard conversation with myself over the concept of "wasting" foood one afternoon after fussing at my kid for not eating over half her lunnch.

If you eat it, it's gone.
If you toss it, it's gone.
    Either way, it's gone.

If you don't NEED it, don't eat it. If you don't want it, don't eat it. I got FAT because I NEVER "wasted" food. I would shove in the last few bites no matter how stuffed I was. I would eat the leftovers even if I wasn't hungry before I'd throw them out. I'd finish the last chicken nugget from the kids' lunch even if I'd already eaten. A cold fry in the bottom of the bag? Not wasting that hard chewy morsel of fat.

Both my kids are slender and healthy. Why? If they don't want food, they simply don't eat it. Even if it means *gasp* wasting it. Hmmm... Interesting concept.

By not wasting food, I wasted 20 years of my life being 80-120 pounds overweight. I wasted a lot of knee cartilage. I wasted a lot of trips to the dunes and the amusement parks and the mountains because it was a tough walk. I wasted opportunities to ride horses and jump out of planes because I didn't want to tell people my weight.

Yeah. Waste the dang brownies. Your victory was SO much better.

I had my surgery on June 7,2016 day of surgery weight was 235 starting weight was 252, today I'm at 196 and went from a size 20 to a size 13 !! I'm so excited , I have a lot more energy now, I haven't been in this size since I was 18. I still have ways to go to get to my goal weight, but I'm happy with how far I have come. It's been tough, but worth it.

My surgery was Wednesday, also, and I have been crying all day. Feeling terrible and wondering how I could have done this to myself. Will spare you the gory details, but let's just say I'm having a variety of pains and problems. I've been sitting alone all day and just trying to get through it. If things get too awful, I will head to ER, otherwise I'll wait and call the surgeon tomorrow.
I did manage to sip some warm Lipton chicken broth a few minutes ago. It made such a difference. Try to find something little to take pleasure in while you heal and await better times. If all else fails, call your surgeon or go to ER. That's my plan for right now.
