SleeveG reacted to Bufflehead in Eating too fast.. Aaarrgh!
When I was teaching myself to eat slowly, I used the Eat Slower app. I set my intervals for 45 seconds between bites. It worked really well for me. Measure out a small portion for your meal -- eating too much can cause distress just as easily as eating too fast, and the two are related. So, if you aren't being very careful to measure/weigh out a very small portion of food to start with, that can also be tied to your problems with getting sick. Good luck!

I was sleeved on Monday and I have 6 people that I'm cooking for tonight. The bbq is loaded with rib eyes, shrimp and a potato, onion and mushroom dish that is always requested. Tomorrow I will be doing smoked, bacon wrapped, mushroom and parsley stuffed chicken thighs. Of course I can't have any of it. Oh well. This guy is going to be rebuilt into a healthy skinny guy and that is truly amazing!

I know this surgeon seems to have a radically different approach, but for me, getting enough protein in early was a key to my easy recovery and success so far. Protein is critical for healing and for weight loss.
If you go without protein for a couple of weeks you are going to feel awful.

Heck, my dr seems to be harder than anyone else. His is 3 weeks everything. And a 14 day fast. Ive seen some people didnt have to fast, ive seen 10 days, but hardly no 14 day. Im going to have to lock myself in a closet when i start this fast in a couple of weeks. Did anyone have a feast before fasting? I wanna go to my favorite restaurant and eat and have a couple of martinis, and have a devilish dessert. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

SleeveG reacted to kelliev2015 in How long do we have to worry about leaks?
I just heard back from my doctor who said that leaks generally happen within 2 weeks and they stop worrying about them completely at about the one month mark. Just FYI in case helpful for anyone.

Day 3 is definitely so much better than Day 2 by far. Thanks for the tip tho with the pain meds I agree percocet seems a little rough on the stomach due to no food. I also wasn't crazy about the Jello I stuck to Water, Vitamin Water zero and chicken broth.

I was sleeved the same day!
I'll start by saying that I'm so jealous. The pain I expierenced on day 2 was INSANE. Today on day 3, I am doing a little better but very uncomfortable. I vomited about 25 times in the hospital and thank goodness, none at home yet.
I tried on tiny half a tea spoon of Jello... Nope. I crave Water and actually had a tiny bit of diluted apple juice and vegetable broth.
I never imagined it was going to be this hard for me. My mom who is 36 years older than me was ready to go out and the doctor let her transition to regular food within 2 weeks....
I did wanna tell you tho, for pain, what's working for me best is ibuprofen, then percocet, then ibuprofen, then percocet. They took me off of diludad after the first day because my gas was so bad they needed to change my meds, then put me on liquid ibuprofen and it was a miracle. I notice that too much percocet hurts the tummy tho, probably because there is no food cushion. But I'd def ask the doctor about ibuprofen!!

That's good, though. You won't experience dehydration that can happen at the beginning.

Honestly I have no trouble getting my Water in, I am actually concerned about getting in too much Water. Sometimes I get in my 4 ounces of water every hour plus some tea or chicken broth.

Glad to hear you're not suffering with the usual. However, it's SO important to get walking! You're doing great. Try to drink your Water. Everyday it will get better. Best wishes!

Hi! I just had surgery last Monday. My best advice is to get out of bed. It's going to hurt and you are going to want to just lay there, but it will pay off. Walk as much as you can

I feel like I should clarify/qualify my last post.
Before all my injuries and I got really fat, I used to use supplements. Pretty much everything they said would increase my performance I took at some time. All it did was make me push myself harder to try and see results faster. This time I vowed that I would go purely old fashioned. Clean eating with slow and hopefully steady results. I don't want to try and find a shortcut because it caused ME problems last time. That may not be an issue for anyone else.
If anyone is looking at me as an example, remember this; I am only trying to live healthier and get lean. I am not going for any weight lifting nor fitness records. I want to feel good in everything I do physically. Lean and lithe is my goal. I want to be able to lift my body weight in the deadlift, squat, and at least one honest to god chin up. That's it. Set a reasonable and attainable goal and stick to it.

Something in my head kept coming back to your question, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Then I realized what it was; you are only 5-6 months post op! Dude, take it easy and take it slow. And definitely don't take any supplements without clearing it with your surgeon!
I'm not going to wag my finger or shake my head at you, but please don't get carried away this soon in the recovery. We are in this for the long haul. This isn't a race to some weird VSG finish line. And if there were a finish line, there is no trophy. So you have nothing to prove to anyone and so much to gain by playing it safe.

man I was in the same spot! got down to 236lbs and was to damn skinny. I am in the bulking phase to gain weight right now myself and a its tough! im eating 3500 calories minimum all from whole food with the exception of 1 shake pre workout in the morning. meal timing is the key to get the food in due to our limited ability to intake a lot of food at one sitting. I do a half cup of jasmine rice with lean ground beef and veggies 3 times a day. baked fish or chicken with sliced sweet potato twice a day. I find as long as I get the carbs in before 3-4pm it doesn't bloat me bad. I go to the gym 2 times a day. 4am to do lifting and again at 730 pm for cardio. my last meal of the day is Protein only and is usually 4-6oz of ground turkey or sirloin at 6pm prior to cardio session. I am 256lbs today and my gain is all muscle. waist is steadily decreasing as im down to a 36 now from a 54 before surgery. try to eat more whole food but keep it lean! I say watch your waist instead of the scale! add as much food as you can handle as long as waist is either staying the same or decreasing...

Figured I would post an updated picture. My weight hasn't changed much since my last pictures were taken, but I think my definition is getting better. I believe the last picture of me in the white shirt is from December 2015 and this is from today:
