Just in the first week of my pre-op diet I have lost 16lbs. and my fasting BS has gone from 119 (pre-diabetic) to 89 (normal). I am stoked!! The fatigue, dizziness, and diarrhea stopped around day 4 and I am just enjoying feeling so well. I kept away from everyone on Thanksgiving so that I wouldn't be tempted. Since I'm a widow and my kids are grown and out of the house, I'm sure it's been easier for me than for those of you who have to cook for your families. I gained 90% of this weight over the last 7 years since my husband was killed by a drunk driver. I've always struggled to keep weight off but when I lost him I went into such a horrible depression that all I did was eat and sleep. It's time to get my life back. I'm only 48 years old and I want to chase my grand babies! With this surgery as a tool and God's help, I know I can!
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

It's amazing how much we are not centered around food anymore. I sat there last night watching my husband eat dinner I made then an ice cream sandwich then party mix then beef Jerky then another ice cream sandwich and I'm like wow I would have usually ate something every time he did. His metabolism is a lot better then mine and he doesn't really put on the weight. He has a gut that's it. But it just really makes u think about how much my life re was centered around food. Lots of luck to you

This won't answer all of your questions and I'm still pre-op myself but I have heard that after surgery (and really during any big weight loss phase) you will experience hormone dumping. Your fat stores hormones, and as your fat cells shrink as you lose weight, those hormones come out and can affect your mood and personality.
I've also heard that a lot of people go through a grieving process immediately after surgery (and some people even feel like they regret their surgery) because they are still healing and get upset that people around them can just eat whatever food without thinking about it. So that's pretty normal. Once you really start seeing and feeling the weight loss effects of your surgery, you probably will get past this grieving/regret/anger stage. (But still talk to your doctor).
One thing I would say though, in regard to your last comment about it being Thanksgiving and everyone but you eating yummy food, is that you need to keep in mind that you had this surgery, not your family and friends. You can't blame them for eating "normal." Your normal is different now.
Hopefully your mood will even out soon, but try to let your wife know that you can't help your mood. I'm sure she will understand. And then make it up to her in a few weeks when you're feeling better. Happy wife happy life, as they say!

you might want to check with your support team or dr about using the straws -even the tiny ones. we were told to not drink from straws as they add air and that increases the gas and stomach pain. good luck

@@theantichick **There are also a LOT of people who get their information needs met by their surgeon's team, have a good support group in person, and just don't have any complications to speak of. Those people never even sign on to a board like this. That's why I say if you want information about how common a complication or side effect is, talk to your surgeon. They report to agencies about that sort of thing, and they know the real numbers. Complications like nausea and vomiting are common, to be sure. But it's not common to have intractable nausea/vomiting (meaning not responding to meds). It happens, sure. But nowhere near the incidence rates one would think just reading this board.**
I'm going to save this to just c/p from now on. Support groups/boards/online communities are TERRIBLE places to find out how safe/unsafe/effective ANYthing is. Your surgeon should be able to readily provide you with his/her complication rate for any given procedure, as well as tell you national rates of the same. You should also be provided with things like your hospital's rate of infections acquired during admission. I had a super easy post-op course, but that's meaningless to YOU other than it being reflective of the rate of easy post-op courses in general for a VSG. Do your homework with your doc/practice/hospital.
You can't even find out if a TOASTER is good or not because so few people take the time to say "I love this toaster" but nearly everyone has time to complain about their toast being too brown, not brown enough or popping up too high Same for gastric bypass, VSG, DS and bands!
