    Yes, it is. My swelling lasted for 3 months. My abdo area was very distended initially post op, felt like I was having triplets!
    It very slowly and gradually went down.
    Your stomach undergoes massive trauma due to the surgery, so the swelling is normal healing reaction.
    Later on I also had gas bloating due to different diet and Constipation.< /p>
    If however you have strong pain that is constant and fever, then call your surgeon or go to ER ASAP. This could signify infection or leak.
    Otherwise, just wait it out. The swelling will go down in time.

    I had GS surgery on 9/13 and I've rebounded so much better than I ever thought. No real pain to speak of, or any complications. Between the two weeks before and the last five days I'm sick to death of these Protein shakes and this liquid phase. I've enjoyed some SF Jello and pudding here and there and some Tomato Soup and broth but I am so ready for some other food!!!!!!! I can't take it anymore lol!!!!

    I decided to have a resource guide at home, so I bought _The Big Book on The Gastric Sleeve_ by the founder of BariatricPal.com and was just reading about the gas and bloating I am having at day 5. I've been doing Jello ok since day 2 in the hospital. I'd be very concerned at 3 weeks if I were having your symptoms. I vote for calling doc on call immediately!

    I second those who said it's not normal. I'd go to the ER room, at the very least, contact your doctor ASAP.

    If you are having severe pain - you should call surgeon on-call or go to ER. That is not normal. These symptoms could be a sign of a leak.

    no, I do not think this is normal. Were you seen at one week? do you have a one month follow up in the next week? I would be letting your team know just exactly how bad it is and see what they say. it could just be that your stomach seam is slow to heal, but it could be something else. tests may be needed to find out which.

    Maybe you just need more time on liquids. How much Protein are you getting in? Drinking shakes? You might be healing slower if you aren't hitting your Protein goal. I would def call your surgeon to ask them. Hope you feel better soon!

    Hello,
    I am one week out from surgery. I'm having a hard time. It's been 10 days since I had solid food. I am drinking Water, Protein, broths and jello.I didn't prepare for the mental impact of that. I'm thinking about food all the time. I can't go out because the smells make me shake. I have cried the last 2 nights. I ruined yesterday for a tiny corner of brioche. I plotted and planned to do it. I snuck and hid. I didn't reach out for help or give anyone a chance to stop me. I knew that I should not have. It hurt and I won't do it again. I know that this is good for me. I had very bad fibromyalgia. I'm already down 20 lbs and have not had any pain in a few days. This is after having constant all over body pain for over 5 years. I just need help to get through this part. My sister in law said come here.

    This is epic turn of events, not "epic fail." As my beloved internist once said as I left his office having wept for no particular reason, "It's too bad." He meant it's too bad that the universe pitches depression into the laps of some people: "You're IT!"
    It's my non-professional but quite human opinion that managing the depression takes precedence at the moment. Of course I understand how the weight regain plays into the whole thing, the nasty cycle. That's exactly the basis of my opinion.
    This isn't to say not to see your practice's RD, as already suggested. SInce I have no idea what a typical day is for you, I'll say that structure has an important role in succeeding. Tracking food intake not only lets us know how wisely we're eating, it fills some time.I also find that meal-planning tells me that I have control and choices. Attending the practice's support group meetings adds structure. So does any and every other activity that gives us, well, structure.
    There's a new Bariatric Pal forum called "Regain [something-something]." It should be in your drop-down under Forums -- General Weight Loss Surgery Forum -- Regain... It doesn't appear in mine (I'm that special), but I was sent a link to it. I'll post now and come back to edit in the link for you just in case.

    I'm pre-sleeve for sept. 21st. I also am on albilify and have gained 60 lbs with being on it for 1&1/2 years. I also have dealt with suicidal thoughts and cannot come of the drug because of it. I know it will still be hard work to lose even after surgery. You CAN get the weight back off again...baby steps, one meal at a time. Good Luck!

    I am so sorry to hear you are still struggling.
    The only thing I could suggest are to: make an appointment with your NUT to talk about your goals and strategies for reaching those goals and go back to basics.
    I don't consider this a diet.
    What works for me:
    Track my food.
    Consume at least 64 oz of Fluid a day.
    Make sure I reach my Protein target every day (for me that is at least 100 grams).
    Avoid starches (bread, Pasta, rice, potatoes, etc), added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods.
    Take my Vitamins and supplements as directed.
    Exercise.
    Get enough restful sleep.

    I watched skin tight on TLC and one thing that show makes clear is no matter how you lose the weight, fast or slow, if your skin is stretched out, it is stretched out. They have people on there that took 5 years to lose their weight without surgery and their skin is still ruined. So it doesn't matter how fast or slow you lose the weight, and in that case, you might as well lose if fast and get the health benefits.
    I have lost about 150lbs in a year and yeah I am flabby, I still have at least another 50 pounds of fat I need to lose. Still my skin isn't just loose skin, it is filled with fat.
    I don't look delicious naked, but I look really good in clothes and Shapewear helps a lot. I'm not married, I date. Men don't complain. Now men are calling small (so nice to live in the midwest where everyone is fat as hell).
    Don't let the skin concern you, after losing weight my life is enriched in so many ways the skin doesn't even matter, really.

    dasEnglish93 reacted to silverthreads in How long do you plan to take off work after surgery?
    I had the luxury of taking six weeks off. I was told not to lift more than 10 pounds the first two weeks, and not more than 20 for another four. (They don't want you to get a hernia while the abdominal wall is still weak.) I felt quite good after two weeks, but still got tired in the afternoons. A daily nap was a luxurious tonic. I went back to traveling my first week back to work--no problems at all. Two travel food recommendations: Wendy's chili and Chick-fil-a grilled chicken nuggets. Quest bars travel well too and are good in a pinch!

    That's exactly right -- all you can do is your best. And if you bring your best to the game, your best will keep you succeeding.
    Nearly two years ago when I was sitting where you are now and after reading a bazillion posts on WLS forums I could see that those who succeeded long-term seemed to have these critical resources:
    * Smarts
    * Incredibly positive attitude
    * Sense of humor
    * Self-awareness
    * Supportive family members
    * A sense of self-reliance * Curiosity to learn and identify patterns * Willingness to change * Eagerness to comply with post-op instructions * Ability to visualize a much better future * Self confidence (that grew as their successes grew) * Gratitude for the opportunity to have WLS And yes, a shrink and some good books will also help. Very best to you!

    @@anniebanana the doubts are NORMAL!! I had them before mine, and honestly, any surgery you have, right before it the negatives will stick out like a sore thumb. But like GSleeve822 said, it's all on you! As long as you keep in mind that this is a lifestyle change, and a tool to help you with it, then you will be good to go. While I've seen and heard people needing revisions, or switching to a mini bypass, I've also seen and heard (and know someone in person who's had a sleeve for 8 years with no regain) who has done wonderful! Also--hello fellow Washingtonian!!
    @@Laughkc11 the 2 weeks pre-op will be a struggle and it will bring forth a LOT of clarity, and it will open your eyes to habits you didn't even know you had. The clear liquids post-op is actually a lot easier than it is pre-op. It's truly like hitting a reset button.

    I felt the same way for a very long time. I started gaining weight after my baby was born, I now weigh 30 lbs more than I did at my highest during pregnancy. I tried everything I could think of, even hiring a personal trainer. After a year of trying everything I could think of and seeing no results but instead gaining more weight and feeling miserable I decided to have the surgery.
    At first I felt like a failure, but I realized that the only failure would be worrying what others think. I know I tried and at this point I don't care how I lose the weight as long as I lose it. I hate seeing myself in the mirror, I have very few clothes that fit and I look horrible in them. I don't care what anybody thinks, I'm doing this for me so I can continue living my life.

    Fortunately, I haven't found the need to explain or justify my decision to have surgery to anyone.
    If "the natural way" doesn't work for you then it doesn't work. No need to apologize.
