I am going to have to disagree to a point. A resleeve or bypass is no more magical than a sleeve. If you don't follow the recommended program with the sleeve, getting another procedure doesn't solve anything.

Fluids go right through your little sleeve. It's also very numb from being cut and stapled, so you won't have a lot of sensation. Once you start pureed foods, you'll feel it when you can only eat a couple bites. I had the same worries until I went to pureed. I even wondered if the doctor even did the surgery, lol.

TuesPheynix how much Protein are you taking in? Are you eating too much salt? Are you still drinking your liquid Protein?
At my 1 month followup my Dr told me to stop taking the Liquid Protein and to only eat 41 grams of Protein. He has no NUT, I figured he knew what he was talking about so I listened to him. What a mistake that was. A few days after the 1 month visit I had lost 5 pounds and then was in a stall for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks of not losing I found a Bariatric NUT and paid out of pocket for 2 hours of her time. She told me to up my protein to 80 to 100 grams, begin drinking the liquid protein again as eating only 2 oz of food at a meal I can't possibly reach 80 to 100 grams of protein. She also helped me to see that I had way too much sodium in my meals and I had to lower them to 1,500 or less. Finally today after just 3 days of doing what she said I have dropped 8 pounds. I am thrilled. Hopefully these suggestions will help you too.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all stall periodically and almost everyone stalls about three weeks after surgery. Just follow your program.
Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids.
Take your Vitamins and supplements as instructed.
    Exercise when cleared.
    And, Embrace the Stall!

I would not have been allowed that Protein Shake because the calories and carbs are too high. My rules were: max 180 calories, max 15 grams carbs. But the rules that applied to me aren't necessarily relevant to you . . . did your surgeon or dietitian give you any rules or guidelines for Protein Shakes, or anything like that?

Now, I simply answer people's questions---upfront, honestly and to the point. That way everyone gets the same answers.
I'm too old to have to remember what I told to whom.
It's an individual situation. You have to decide for yourself what you will look back on in the near and distant future.
    Just one question:
Once you are a NP, what are you going to tell your patients about WLS? Do you have any concerns within that realm?

Stevia is a safe and delicious alternative sweetener. Splenda and the other artificial sweeteners are not good for us. Please research all products that contain artificial sweeteners before buying. I use a chocolate flavored liquid stevia in my coffee. It's made by NOW foods and is amazing. I buy it from Amazon and get 6 bottles at a time. With a little half and half in my coffee, it rivals anything I could get in Starbucks!!

I'm only a week out from surgery, body still healing, in the midst of a liquid diet, with no discernible difference in my shape and I STILL feel like it's the best thing I've ever done for myself.
Without it, I would have only gained weight every year, shifted fad diets to 'tomorrow', derived momentary pleasure from food and continued to be unhappy with myself.
Surgery is drastic but if you've tried everything else and your health is at stake, you owe it to yourself to configure your system so that it's set up to finally do what you need it to do.

No more blood pressure meds, CPAP, and two other medications are gone. I can have sex without feeling like a sweaty out of breath blob (and its fun to actually see what is going on down there and not just my stomach). And then there is this stuff
Best decision I have made in a long time.

I'm eleven months out from surgery and almost 150 lbs down. I am lighter than my goal weight and my medical conditions pre-surgery are all gone (high blood pressure, sleep apnea, chronic back and knee pain, limited mobility). I've dropped many sizes, have a body fat percentage in the ideal range for my age, and have so much energy! These past months haven't been a struggle, but they haven't been a cake walk either. But the effort was worth the results. I feel physically and emotionally better than I have in years. As cliche as it sounds, I have given myself a new lease on life, and I am doing everything I can to take advantage of it.

honestly, i've just been feeling' myself. way more confident overall. i feel good, look good, have hella energy and don't have back pain anymore and my IBS has calmed down. I've always been a good dresser, but now I'm stepping that up even more. I'm also dating more. I've been participating in hella activities, like walking in the Pride parade and AIDS walk that i would have shied away from in the past. also doing little things like taking the stairs everyday, multiple times a day at work and not feeling like i have to circle around to find the closest parking spots... hell... sometimes i take a further one on purpose.

The sleeve gave me a whole new life. I had gotten so large that it was hard to even do basic every day things, and I have never been a person who is satisfied with the basic every day life anyway.
I wanted adventure. I wanted to travel. I wanted to have more pleasure in my life That came from somewhere else besides a menu. I wanted to dance. I wanted to feel comfortable in my own skin. I wanted my pain to go away.
That is why I got sleeved. And my faith was not misplaced. I am down over 100 pounds in a little over seven months, and I have purchased an RV, so I can travel. I am literally embarking on a whole new life which would have been impossible at my previous weight.
The sleeve saved my life. Even though it was and is a sacrifice, every bit of it has been worth it to me. I wish I could've done this for myself along time ago, as I would be at goal by now. It was one of the best decisions of my adult life.

Having my sleeve truly was the best thing I have evee done. I feel good, i look good, I'm not worried about not living to 40. I had ZERO complications and practically no pain. I would do this again in a heartbeat

off diabetes medication. on 1/4 of blood pressure meds. I can cross my legs. I have energy to participate in my life again. I can wear rings that have sat in my jewelry case for years.
simply put, there is no aspect of my life that has not been improved since surgery.
I had no complications aside from some Constipation (which I firmly believe is due to coming off Metformin) and I can eat anything - but I prefer the foods on my food plan. no trouble at all getting liquids and Protein in. I have lost 40% of my excess weight. weight loss is slow and steady.

I would do it again in an instant. I am almost nine months out and down 126 lbs since surgery. I dealt with different pain issues due to my weight and horrid IBSD and those have resolved. I was fortunate to not have any other weight related issues other then borderline high blood pressure and that's normal now too. I am able to take part in life again and not let it all pass me by. I have been given my life back and now am smaller then I was in middle school. I still have about 50 pounds to go to get to my personal goal but for the first time in my life I feel that it is obtainable.

Sure! I am 7 months post op. I got to my doctors goal months. ago. I am 3 lbs from normal range BMI and 8 lbs from personal goal. My health has improved so much. Off 3 medications; cymbalta, Metformin and Spironolactone. My PCOS, cholesterol, plantar facitis, metabolic syndrome, incontinence, psoriasis, back pain, knee pain, ankle pain and arthritis are either 95-100% better. I also rarely get headaches anymore. I have energy, I can keep up with my young children and my husband has the girl he dated back ( I am better than the girl he married lol!). I have less aniexty with no medication at all! Also I look awesome!

8th month post op and I'm very glad I acted on the decision to have the sleeve surgery done. Getting rid of a big chunk of the unwanted weight has left me feeling so much better.
I've certainly not faced all the challenges in a great way, but I've been able to stumble my way through it up to this point. I've lost over 190 lbs of the 230-ish lbs I want to lose. I think I'll be there by the one year mark.
You have to overlook a lot if the negative posts you see. Most of them are simply folks griping about a specific hurdle they are trying to get over. They are probably pleased overall.

I'm 6 weeks post op and have not had any regrets! The first week was tough, but I just kept reminding myself of all the benefits. I'm down 30 pounds, my feet already hurt a little less, and I started back to the gym this week. I have so much hope and excitement about the future.

I won't lie. It was tough in the beginning. But all of that is a distant and foggy memory almost 22 months post-op. Now I am loving life! I've been maintaining below goal for almost 10 months. I ran my first half marathon in April. I'm training for a full marathon in September.
For me, at least, maintenance is easy. I have no trouble meeting my Protein goals.

I definitely use less sugar free/fat free type of foods these days. Mostly because my portions are so small, I can just enjoy the real thing in moderation.

I couldn't tolerate artificial sweeteners at all postop. I just used real sugar, Monk Fruit, and honey. Also drank diluted fruit juices and regular sports drinks. Used regular Torani syrups to flavor plain Greek yogurt and Protein Shakes. None of this impeded my weight loss, but of course I wasn't going gangbusters on high calorie Starbucks drinks or fruit smoothies, either. Besides the real thing, I will use stevia when cooking, and some of my Protein supplements do contain stevia and/or erythritol.
