Hello! My name is Colleen. I am at the very beginning of my journey to a healthier me! I started on 11/22/16 with my PCP for my 3 month supervised diet for my insurance. I weighed in at 258.8 lbs. My highest weight was 268.0 lbs. I then had my next appointment on 12/22/16 and weighed in at 244.0 lbs. This surprised me for the better.
I will have my next appointment on or after 1/22/17. And I see my surgeon for the first time on 1/30/17.
Of course that can't get here fast enough! I know I will have a ton of preop tests and that is fine. I know with each day I am closer to a healthier me.
I'm just here to introduce myself and get familiar with the site. I need all the help I can get and everyone on here seem awesome and encouraging!
So, any input or advice for a newbie?
Oh, I am from Central Texas and looking for buddies!
Thanks! I look forward to chatting on here!

    Hi All.
    I am getting bypass tomorrow.
I am a mixed bag of emotions today. Took the day off from work, mainly because I cannot concentrate on anything but my surgery. Also thought it would be a good idea to flit around my house getting loose ends wrapped up.
I am excited to start on my journey to a healthier, more weight, body confident me!
Wishing you all success and support on your journey.

So many... I use a normal towel after I shower instead of a beach towel. I use a normal public bathroom stall instead of the handicap stall. I cross my legs all the time. I don't sweat as much. I am never out of breath. I can run up the stairs at my house instead of hanging on the banister all the way up. I'm in single digit clothing. I don't dread being in a picture... In fact I'm front and center now. So many more.... I smile all the time now!!!

I just started the process. I'm down to my lady nutritionist appointment. I scheduled my psych eval and should be doing my labs in the beginning of January. The doctor said my surgery could be mid February. I can't wait. I'm nervous but at the same very excited. I'm ready!

It is common to experience fear and anxiety prior to surgery. At your stage, I would recommend you do three things:
    1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success. 2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery. 3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery.

I'm 2 weeks po bypass. I have anxiety. Theres nothing you can do to relieve any anxiety, just have to wait til its done. They give you medicine to keep your anxiety calm if you ask for it. Til then, theres nothing to stop your anxiety now. But, I will say it was a breeze and I didn't have much pain.. I was up walking in like 3 hours after surgery. Just keep walking, push yourself to walk.. the more you burp/fart the quicker the gas pain is gone.

    Afternoon all!
I'm writing this on a super awesome day: my one-year post op date! This day last year, I weighed 387 pounds and was in recovery after my bypass. This day two years ago, I weighed 450 pounds and saw very little hope of making it past 30. Today I am 207 pounds and perfectly healthy. How times change.
I've learned so, so much in the last two years since I started down this road towards health and happiness. Some of the things I learned were tough lessons, some of them were illuminating and freeing, but all of them together have brought me here. "Here" is a place I never in a million years thought I could be. "Here" is an entirely different Abby, an Abby I thought was sort of a childish dream, or maybe a fairy-tale I told myself to comfort myself during the painful years I spent being obese and incredibly unhappy and uncomfortable.
I still struggle every day with the person I was, the person I am, and the person I am becoming. I struggle to regain my self-image, and to regain an understanding of who I am outside and inside. I struggle with the social and emotional changes that have happened since my surgery, namely the way that people suddenly treat me like a human being because I am no longer painfully obese. I struggle to forgive the cruelty that I experienced at the hands of so, so many people, including my own family and friends. Including myself. I struggle with food cravings occasionally, and with the gravity of the change my personality and habits have gone through. I struggle with that tiny voice of fear in the back of my mind that tells me I couldn't possibly keep this goodness up. I struggle not to compare myself to others and I struggle to keep clothes on my back as I continue to drop sizes. Every day is a struggle.
Every day is also a miracle. I would do this again, and again, and again... forever if I needed to, if it would bring me back here every time. This road has been a little bitter, a lot of sweet, and a wilder ride than I could have possibly imagined or prepared for.
    And it ain't over yet!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of you here who have been a part of this journey with me, whether you realized it or not. Thank you to all the vets who slapped some sense into me and the kind strangers who listened during times when my anxiety was out of control or when I was feeling so bad about myself that I felt hopeless. You all share a little piece of my victory with me. I wouldn't be here without you and the enormous host of other people outside of this site who have supported me and encouraged me and been proud of me the whole way. THANK YOU. I have a life now, and a future that simply did not exist for me two years ago.
I am ecstatic to be able to share these pictures and my progress with you all today. I love you all.

I have this for Breakfast 6 out of 7 days a week. i love em. they're easy, very low on calories and sugar and almost no carbs as well.
and they're not solid food, especially if you go with 45 to 50 seconds max on your microwave. but with a teaspoon of sugar free maple Syrup on top or sugar free jam, its the closest you can get to a pancake or the like .
You can get the matrix Protein powder at Vitamin shoppe's or Amazon etc. even bariatric pals store i think carries it. I recommend the Cookies and cream as the best one to go with.
