Don't make it only about weight, follow your plan and treat your stomach like it's a newborn. Get your Protein in, even if you don't think you can, find a way. It's easier for me if I drink it. Isopure, or the equivalent, has 40 grams of Protein in each bottle. That's half the amount right there! Doesn't taste bad either. I like to dilute it a little with Water coz it's sweetish tasting. But there are zero carbs. The other go to us called Muscle Milk. It's dairy-free. 25 grams of protein, 0 sugar. Good luck and keep us posted! I'm only 5 weeks out.

I haven't heard one good thing about the band. Is it really that bad? If it causes so many problems, why do the doctors still do it.

I had my first band 5 years ago and it snapped after 6 weeks. I then had it replaced 3 weeks later and now this one is leaking. I have had nothing but problems with it and finally am having it removed on the 2nd of July and having a gastric sleeve on the same day. Good luck for tomorrow x

There's actually an entire section of the forum dedicated to those who have gone from band-to-sleeve. You can see it here -- http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/394-band-to-gastric-sleeve-revisions/

Hi there! I had my band for 6 years before it broke. I was upset but my doctor assured me it was no problem- he would remove the band and create a sleeve. His did it in one procedure and I love the sleeve. I had a super quick recovery and have more energy and enthusiasm than I have had in years.
If you have any specific questions just ask! You can always PM me if you prefer. Good luck and take care.

Thank you everyone for the insight into your weigh loss journey with the sleeve. I'm a low BMIer 28.5 getting a revision from band to sleeve on Oct 16 - so ready to stop dealing with a temperamental band and give myself a chance to finally hit goal with the sleeve ????

    Hello all,
Since my last post....little has changed. I still go up and down a couple pounds every now and then. Today I was 126#. The only significant change...due to weight loss...is I had a Breast Lift with a small implant...360cc. I thought...and my plastic surgeon...told me I'd gain a few pounds...but I didn't. Yay! Because I feel like I have 2 bowling balls on my chest! My boobs haven't looked this good...since I was 19yo. I am well into my 50's now....and feel fantastic!
I hope all is well with each and everyone of you.
    Take care.

I also am a low BMI of 29 on my surgery date of 6/8/15. I paid out of pocket for my gastric sleeve. I have PCOS and had a lap band 6 years ago, I had it removed in October of last year, I gained 40 pounds in 8 months, all while exercising and eating well. I then decided to have the sleeve. I can't let me kids see this struggle with food, or me and my knees hurting. I want to be healthy for my kids & husband. I am 34 and have 4 girls, I don't want them to hear me constantly struggle and be mad my clothes don't fit. It's not good for their psyche. Anyhow, surgery was a breeze, I'm still at home and taking it easy, but I've already lost 10 pounds in less than a week. I'll take it! I was 174.5 on surgery day, I'm 164.2 today, with a goal of 130. It's so worth it not to struggle with food! Good luck everyone!

I don't know what my actual BMI is I go by the charts and they are wrong. So, I'm right here with u! 30 and under BMI, don't want to hear the speeches! Fat is fat! And to me I am fat! I want to change it. I don't judge anyone else only myself. I want to be healthy and strong. I am self pay, so I'm not putting it on my insurance. I'm doing it in my own! So here's to us low BMI PEEPS for starting early before our health got too bad. And congrats to ALL U SLEEVERS OUT THERE FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK! u deserve it!!!

I was a Bmi of 30 but after pre-op diet only 27.5. I am 5'10. I am a really good loser and have always taken the weight off fast by gain it back every time. I am 5 weeks out and now a healthy Bmi of 24.9. I was told to expect to lose a total of 32 lbs over the first year post op and have lost 21 so far. I have lost 9 pre-op and 21 post-op. I am happy if I never lose another pound and I am also happy with only 5lbs in the last 3 weeks. The goal is and always was to redefine my relationship with food. I want to eat clean and still struggle with that a little as solid foods are not going down as well as I would like.

Honestly Bruce a BMI over 30 is considered obese. Unless you are a board certified bariatric surgeon I'm not sure you know what your talking about lol I've heard of BMIs as low as 28 needing surgical intervention due to obesity with comorbidities....

anna81 reacted to sharonintx in Emotional Rollercoaster( can you become bipolar) after surgery.
Yes - you live with it, understand the emotional implications after WLS, and work your way through it.
If there were some simple answer that would solve your problem I'm certain someone would tell you but it isn't simple. I know you want to scream, cry, hurt some MF-ers, all that stuff.
    My personal experience was this:
    I was mad all the time, it took me a solid year to begin to feel normal, and I failed to recognize one thing. All off us here on this forum have used food as a crutch, coping mechanism, or whatever you want to call it. Having WLS removes the biggest part of that. We can no longer use food in the same way and it throws you for a loop;
That's where you are right now. In the loop. I wish I could tell you how to make it stop but it doesn't work that way.
Look at it like this - you had WLS to control a problem. That problem was food. You did great in trying to eliminate that problem. Now you have a new problem - your emotions. You have been stripped completely bare and cannot cope the way you used to. Now you have to dig deep and try to resolve issues that caused you to use food as a crutch.
You can do it, you will come out on the other side of this a happier person, and you will feel lighter emotionally as well as physically.

I got "yelled" at on here once for asking a question that could have been answered if I had "read the whole thread." So after getting reprimanded I scrolled through the entire post and still didn't really find the answer. I don't ask questions any more. I already feel judged for being overweight and don't need to be judged in a forum.

The last few weeks I've been seeing a lot of rude responses to posts........each time I saw one I wanted to respond and ask "WTH is your problem?"......but knew that would just add to the drama, and I think that's what those folks are seeking anyway......So I found this "Rant" section and decided this would be the place to express my low opinion of those posters that seem to think that name calling and talking down to people is the way to respond to posts on a support forum....I see this type of response most often from some of the long timers. I'm not going to name names, because I know you know who you are because it is obvious it is done intentionally.....My advice to those folks, is if you're no longer able to provide support without being sarcastic, maybe it's time you move on with your life and just leave the forum and find something you're good at......It's great to have long timers here that will share their experiences with newbies because it is priceless when shared appropriately.....but if you don't know how to do it in a way that is supportive, you're only being hurtful and may actually cause someone not to ask a future question for fear they will be attached for being stupid......
That's the end of my rant.............As Ellen says at the end of all her shows............"Be kind to one another"

I just bought my first bikini too! Granted, it's high waisted because I've got some loose skin that I don't like to look at, but still! I'm breaking it in tomorrow, and hoping I don't want to crawl into a hole once I'm out in public!

I wore a bikini yesterday for the first time in my life - in my backyard / alone / for my eyes only (anyone else would have runaway screaming "My eyes! My Eyes!!".) I strongly resemble a shar pei right now, but it sure was nice having to wait for that huge skirted swimsuit I have worn in the past to dry before I came in the house!
