still_dna got a reaction from Sugary Sweetheart in Nail polish/Acrylic nails
Thank you. And thanks to everyone who responded with feedback without being a total jerk. I didn't get a definitive yes or no from my preop team just a "maybe" so I was coming on here to ask what other's experiences were.

And I had a head full of extensions and they knew it. As long as there is no metal it doesn't matter. So you can go into surgery with clip insurance but if you have bonded hair, or a sewin, it is fine.
Honestly some of these rules would make me question their abilities and equipment.

Told me before everything that can be taken off, must be taken off. Before surgery they checked before wheeling me in, no fake nails, nail polish, no detachable anything (teeth, extensions, jewelry).

If you don't care about them, don't post. There is really no reason for you to be so condescending and rude.
You are purposely coming in here to belittle people.
When I had my cardiac cath, I kept my Polish on and they said it worked fine with polish. It is really personal choice of the staff and mainly BS. It isn't as dramatic as people are making it like if you have on nail Polish you are going to end up brain dead. Good lord.

I was told only 1 finger had to be clear of polish or acrylic. I was never told to take off everything.

Remember.. like they said on the other page.. Acrylics are super expensive.. a new set can cost upwards of 40-60 dollars depending on where you live... big picture it's worth it to take it off for surgery.. small picture YES I can see why OP is freaking out about it.
In my case they said to remove polish but when they found out I just had French tip they told me I could keep it on because they could easily see my nail beds to monitor me during surgery. I was using Jamberry rather than acrylic but it would likely work similarly.

Do not go with the advice you get on here. You need to contact your surgical team directly since every anesthesiologist has different preferences. I absolutely could not keep my acrylics on for my VSG but I could for my gall bladder removal (different surgeon/anesthesiologist/hospital)

Nope, you can keep them on. They monitor you with a oxygen meter on your finger.

still_dna reacted to Cari Dickenson in Told my Mother I was having surgery and her repsonse is.........
You know I had those questions about skin as well. And it's not as bad as I expected. I thought it would be worse.. and they said give it a yr or two and let the skin go back... I was a few days after my 40th bday. I have some skin.. its not half as horrible as I thought it would be...I went from a 5 x.... now I can fit a jrs 15/17( and I'm not done yet) and it feels very good my journey is far from over... and at first yeah its a lil scary.... but all surgery is a lil scary. and remember you can also decide when your journey is to a weight you are happy with to have the skin removed as well..you have options...

Hi ladies - I took the full three days in the hospital and was out on Friday by 5 pm ... Feeling ok -- trying to get the Water and Protein in, like everyone else
I'm not hungry but boy would I like some fruit or toast ... But it is normal
On the pre- op liquid diet for 2 weeks I lost 17 lbs - and my blood sugars are fantastic . I am officially off insulin and expecting to be off Metformin soon
So the eating and Water consumption is difficult, but seeing good things .... I hope you June 1st' ers are also experiencing good things !

i went to target this weekend. picked a medium dress and extra small sweater off the rack. i wasn't looking for xs by the way but all they had was xs or xxl lol. i went to the dressing room and saw myself full length in the mirror and thought holy ****. i think i'm small. am i small? on the daily i feel just like i always felt. like i feel better but still fat. could it be that im not perceived as fat anymore? why is it so important? how do we switch over from "fat mentality" to what's real? to what's actually happening with our bodies right now? am i still viewed as "fat" by society? am i normal now? is a size 8/10 still fat? how will i know when to stop? all the questions you didn't realize would linger so long.....
