You won't be able to do this immediately after surgery, but when you are cleared for sugar-free applesauce, it works pretty well. Same for a little yogurt or cottage cheese once you're cleared for those. Sorry, no cheerful suggestion from me for when you're on liquids only. Maybe you can mix Crystal Light or similar product into the Water. It still won't be fun, but perhaps better than plain Water. Or any of the other liquids (but not hot ones).
Some prescriptions should not be crushed or, in the case of capsules, opened. Check with your pharmacist about each of yours. If you get "Don't do it" as an answer, talk to your prescribing doctor(s). They may tell you it's okay to stop whichever drug for a short time.

Hi Everyone! Quick question. I have five medications that I take daily. One may go away after surgery but the rest will stay. I have been told I have to crush them for 3 months post surgery as they are larger than the head of a pencil eraser and they don't come in a liquid format. I tried crushing them today and putting them in a shot glass with Water. Needless to say it was AWFUL! Anyone out there have to do this as well and if so any tips? Thank you in advance for you help!

Surgery day April 4/16. Down 78.2 pounds/66.25 inches! Off BP meds! I feel great! Best thing I ever did. I would do it again in a heartbeat!! Here's before and after pics. My arms are moving at the same speed as the rest of me and I hate it. My arms suck. Sorry no makeup or contacts in the after. I look like a troll....

Lucky you... 3 months post op and I still have to drink Water quite gingerly. Love the taste. Love it ice cold but it seems like my stomach shuts down after sip 4. If I try to sneak in 1 more... i get very nauseated and I won't drink for awhile and when I do again it's very carefully.

I went to my pre surgery class today. Listened to all if the Do' and don'ts. And I can't shake this nagging feeling that this isn't how are bodies are meant to be treated. Of course our bodies aren't meant to carry 350 lbs either and mine is doing it everyday. Idk. My head can't get past the idea that chopping off half my stomach to quit overeating is barbaric and someday I'll regret it.

I started this journey at 260 pounds, I was unhappy.. Depressed and at an all time low, I had my surgery on the 26th of May 2016.. It's a tiny bit over the 3 month mark and after a 2 week stall I can happily say the scale went to 198.5 pounds! I had a little cry earlier when I saw it.. I just wanted to say thank you to every single one of you who post on this site and share your advice and experience, it's helped me so so much!

ZyiereIsMyWorld reacted to Daisee68 in Does anyone regret their surgery?
To be honest, I did have regrets the first few months. I was pretty sick (turned out to be a stricture) and while I felt better after they fixed that, I was fairly nauseated for 6 months. (Zofran was my friend.) The Constipation is still a struggle at almost 14 months post-op. There were times (maybe still are) when I worry what it will be like when I am 80 and still trying to make sure I am getting my Protein first, but when I expressed that to my counselor she said "you likely wouldn't have made it to 80 in your prior state of health". True. Hadn't thought of it that way. Anyway, at 150 pounds down now, I am SO glad I did it and only wish I had done it sooner.

@@michee33 You can blend them to make them more like a puree. You could also add cottage cheese. Just take it slow because many find eggs to be an issue at first.

I am so sorry that you have gotten irritated with responses that you received from this post. We all have had some sort of experience whether it be pre or post surgery. I know for me, I enjoy sharing my experience to help others along their journey and I love to hear from others further along than I am. I really hope that you can understand most of us feel the same way. Just sharing our journey and supporting one another. Good luck

    Hi ATLGirl,
Please forgive any errors as I am writing this message from my phone. I was quite excited to see this post after lurking on this discussion board for weeks. I have acquired so much useful info and courage from this board. I am just ending the beginning stage of getting approval for the vsg. My insurance company required a psych eval, documentation of prior weightloss attempts, a letter of medical necessity from my pcp, 3 sessions with a nutritionist, as well as clearance from a pulmonary dr and cardiologist. I have completed everything and have my 3rd this Friday. YAY!!!! So after Friday I will be playing the waiting game. I hope this process goes quickly. I teach and was hoping to be sleeved on my spring break (early April) but now if I get an earlier approval I might decide to do it sooner than April.
I see that you will be sleeved this weekend. I wish you lots of luck with your surgery. Are you required to do a two week pre op liquid diet? How has your pre op journey been going?
    Nikki
