vegbeth got a reaction from northstar9148 in No Support
Glad to hear people say you can do this on your own. I basically have no support either. I am worried about the whole kitty litter situation. I don't think I have anyone that can take care of this for me and my cats are very particular. They will pee on me in the bed if I don't keep it clean! I'm going to need to change it as soon as I get home from the hospital even if it's clean when I leave.

vegbeth got a reaction from Rainbow2015 in Excited and terrified
Mine is December 28th and I too am completely terrified. I'm excited for this and have prepared for the past 6 months but the reality is so scarey. How soon will I be able to get back to normal activities? Will I have complications? Will I be able to do this on my own? I live basically alone, caretaking for my elderly mother who lives downstairs. Will she be ok, will I be ok? I know this is what I want but it's hard doing this so much on my own without much for support. No friends who understand and really not much for help. I almost can't wait for this to be over as the next month of fears seems overwhelming.

vegbeth reacted to daniotra in Can someone explain PB powder, how you use it, benefits, etc?
I just like the way it tastes in it's own. (I'm weird). I'll put a small spoonful in my mouth and it takes several minutes for me to get it down, all while enjoying powdery peanutbutteriness. You get all the peanut flavor, but none of the creamy mouth-feel.

vegbeth reacted to Ssze1109 in Why do you think Drs are so different?
Just wondering why do you think everyone's program is so drastically different? I know there has to be some consistent research on gastric sleeve surgery. But there are so many variations with everyone.
My Dr allowed Protein shakes upon Discharge from hospital.
Then every 2-3 days I am allowed to progress to yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce then well cooked vegetables.
Then 2-5 days eggs, Beans, fish and nuts then dark meat chicken.
If I can tolerate the new food for 2 days I could progress on.
This could be as soon as 3 weeks.
Luckily (or unluckily lol) I have been able to tolerate everything with no problems.
The only thing that makes me nauseous is my chewable Vitamin.
I see some people on liquids for weeks after surgery.
Just makes me curious why my program allows it but others don't? The surgery should be standard protocol for most everyone right?

vegbeth reacted to Rachel Pittsburgh in does anyone have 60 pounds or less to lose?
Hello everyone!
I had my surgery last year on December 23, 2015 and am down 62 pounds...11 months post-op and am ready to hit my goal of 150. I went from a size 18 to a 10. XXL to a Medium!! This is the best decision I've ever made. I'm off all my medications and my diabetes is gone. I really don't want to lose any more weight and I can't believe I wrote that...lol. I remember getting ready for the surgery and time went so slow and I was excited and nervous but I will tell you this past year flew by and the changes to come to each of you will be amazing. I wish you all a speedy recovery and my advice is to follow the program and it will melt right off of you! Good luck and God Bless you!

vegbeth got a reaction from My4Brownies in Ideas for non-meat proteins?
How about seitan? It's a meat substitute made from wheat gluten, very high in Protein and can be used like beef in most recipes. You can find it prepared and in different flavors at Whole Foods.

vegbeth reacted to shedo82773 in How do you guys manage all the sweets?
Did he say that you can have Beef or chicken broth? If you can I would suggest BETTER THAN BOUILLON, Then they have this amazing unflavored Protein Powder called GENEPRO. It has 30 grams of Protein in 1 tablespoon. I use it in my coffee all the time. If you try it get a little warm Water in a cup add powder and whisk it up then add it to whatever you are drinking or eating, pudding ETC.

vegbeth reacted to Canoodley in Post surgery vegan chewable vitamins
I've been looking for the same. This isn't a chewable, but it's definitely vegan and apparently the pill is super-tiny:
http://www.devanutrition.com/vegan-tiny-tablets-multivitamin-mineral.html
Nature's Plus makes two vegetarian chewable multis, and I can't figure out why they're not vegan, but they don't list them as vegan (I haven't contacted them to clarify this, but I would if I were thinking of purchasing them). This one by Country Life might be vegan as well?
You could try a children's vegan chewable multi-Vitamin which are easier to find, and take a larger dose as directed by your health care provider, supplementing with more Iron or B12 or other elements as needed (these are also easier to find as vegan chewables on their own).
You could also utilize an 'all-on-one' Protein drink that includes Vitamins and minerals (though some don't contain iron). My favourite is Progressive VegEssentials All-In-One in the natural vanilla flavour. It's really good mixed with Water and one or two tablespoons of frozen orange juice concentrate. Their vegan Protein powders are the best-tasting and least-gritty I've found.
(P.S. That's a beautiful ginger kitty you've got there. I used to have a giant, floofy ginger boy. Now all my floofs are grey.)

vegbeth got a reaction from Alex Brecher in Do You Use Alcohol after Weight Loss Surgery?
I'm pre op and have thought a lot about this issue. My mom is a recovering alcoholic so I am concerned about the idea of swapping addictions. With all that being said I plan to drink post op but not for a long time, at least 8 months out. Longer if my stomach seems iffy. But even then I plan on only doing it on special occasions (birthday, thanksgiving, etc and no more than once a month). But before I do any of that I'm going to have a drink at home with a close friend here to see how I react to it. I do love cooking with alcohol though, does anyone know if that is an issue post op? I know it will be a while before I'm cooking real meals but wondering if it's acceptable.

vegbeth reacted to sunnydeeliteful in family that won't stop eating badly ?
When I read these stories I feel sad for the people having to deal with this issue and it reinforces how happy I am to live alone. My friends are big buffet eaters and they are starting to ask me how can I live on so little food after my December 1st surgery. I just tell them I'm changing my lifestyle for myself and I'm happy with my choice and that getting together will no longer about food for me.
