Autumn Riley Arnold got a reaction from awilson12614 in I'm so excited!
I saw the psychiatrist (which I was really worried about getting denied from) and she she said she'd OK the surgery!! This is really happening and I'm just bursting with happiness! Do you know if there's still a chance that I could be denied for anything? All I have left is the EKG

I love this post! I love how you can view it as just information you're taking in on where you are on your weight loss journey. I SO wish I could do that, but unfortunately I will have to weigh myself every month because if I'm honest with myself, I KNOW I will be disappointed if I see I've gained weight despite doing all that hard work. But man, I'm jealous of people who can take it as information and not be devastated =)

After I have the RNY what are the things that I'll never be able to eat/take again. I've read that we aren't allowed celery. What other foods, meds, etc will I no longer be able to have?

I think it's dependent on how YOU feel. There were times I backed off weighing. I was following the plan but would get discouraged if it wasn't "enough".
In time I worked on changing my perspective. I saw the weight as just that...a number. Similar to James, I use(d) this as a piece of information to guide me.
Once I reached 6 months, decided weekly and/or monthly weigh-ins weren't enough info. If I was stalling, I wanted to know sooner so I could address it sooner.
I think if you view the number as a number, not as a success or a failure, just an update on where you're at, a more more frequent weigh-in can be positive. Like I stated earlier-this was a process and took a lot of self-talk to not obsess or "feel" anything or than informed. That was my journey.
I just reached my 10 month Surgiversary yesterday. I do weigh daily. I began at 504.0, today I weighed 259.0
    Hope this helps!
    My best,
    Daniel

Just an update! Yesterday I couldn't hold anything down and was nauseous all day. By evening I couldn't even sip Water without it coming right back out. I called my surgeons office first thing this morning and they got me right into the endoscopy center. Ends up I had a severe stricture. The opening to your stomach is usally 12 (not sure if cm or mm) and mine was at .5 They did a balloon dilation the open me back up. Even though my throat is sore and I have to start completely over on the diet stages I am better! It was literally instant relief! I'm on Clear liquids for a few days but I'm ecstatic that I have been drinking Water this evening and it's staying down!

I'm 6 weeks out and have been having issues since week 3. food and liquids seem to have a hard time going down. First pain in my upper abdomen and then some times it resolves and sometime I have to vomit. This is not every time I eat or drink. Some times what goes down easily one day, refuses to go down the next. I am not drinking while eating, I am eating slowly, and I am chewing the crap out of each bite. I went to my surgeon and told him all of this. I could tell he was rolling his eyes at me and probably thinking I was eating too fast or not chewing enough. I asked for an endoscopy to rule out a structure.
Well....I had my endoscopy yesterday. The results were--my tissue had been rejecting the staples placed on the day of surgery. One of which was lodged in the opening to my new stomach. (Food was getting hung up on it) 11 more staples were also removed since they migrated away from where they originally were. I developed an ulcer (erosion from the staple sitting where it didn't belong) and therefore developed a structure. (The opening, according to my gastro, should be between 13-15 mm and mine is 8mm.). Since I'm only 6 weeks out, my gastro didn't want to balloon the opening yet. He placed me on carafate to help heal the ulcer, put me back on liquids (not like I could eat much more than that anyway) and will dilate the opening in "a few more weeks" when I'm more healed. If that doesn't work, he will place a stent and hopefully that will keep it opened. UGH! (If all else fails, I will be looking at a revision
The lesson here is this. Listen to your body. You know it best. Be your own advocate especially when you KNOW something is wrong

The plastic surgeon in my area (northeast Oh) came to one of out monthly support groups. He talked about all of the options for plastic surgery. He informed up that you have to wait 18 months before starting the process. You need to have a rash for at least 6 months that you and your primary physican have tried options to cure it. And that your pannus needs to hang a certain amount. All of these things equal medical need for the surgery. He told this to a broad group of people with all different kind of insurance. I am hoping that at 18 months qualify for that surgery so that I can get rid of this excess belly skin that is starting to hang more and more everyday and it's only been 3 months.
    I hope this helpful!

I'm 52, been overweight most of my life. My wake up call was in January when I was having knee trouble and nothing was helping, the Dr I went to stated very clearly "no one is going to do anything for you at your current weight"..... So here I am. Don't have a surgery date yet, few more thing to complete and hope to have it done soon. Been pretty healthy most of my life, just overweight. I've been in every direction, excited, nervous, scared, happy, sad. But my goal is to be healthy
Good luck to all of you.

So far I've met with the primary care and the surgeon, neither has mentioned anything about smoking being a problem... They both know I smoke... I'm hearing so much on here about it, I'm waiting for a visit in the middle of the night from the smoking police lol... I've been cutting back but if I could get off the hook of quitting right now that would work for me... When I'm anxious I'm either smoking or eating, giving them both up at the same time would be kind of hard. I'm curious of anyone had the surgery without quitting???... I know this isn't a question I should be asking
