I really loved sugar free applesauce at that stage. Try it if it's on your plan. I practically lived on it for a week or so.

Nothing wrong with going out to eat. Sounds like you made a good choice for Soup. When I go out to eat, I check the menu online before I go so if they don't have something I want or could have at the time, I could have a Protein Shake before I went. Then I would just order a sugar free beverage.

It would probably be better to find a real life support group. The internet is rarely a good place for sensitive people. Also, medical questions are best directed to your medical team. Asking strangers on the internet if you can ignore your surgeon's advice is never going to end well.

Well, I, for one, am an old prude who enjoys sitting around my own crib with my posse of cats. I sit in my chair and read or watch TV while I eat my Soup and dribble it down the front of my housecoat.

Just wait until you start putting some solids in your stomach, you're definitely going to feel it and that's why you want to go slow and chew thoroughly. The liquid diet stuff goes through pretty fast, it doesn't spend a lot of time in the stomach. The harder to digest stuff does, and you'll definitely start experiencing the full feeling when you start on that stuff.

Make Cookies out of a Quest bar. Only eat one or two which is 1/8th ,for two, of a quest bar. Check out the world according to egg face. Google it, it is a blog by a very successful wls patient and she puts out tons of great recipes that are wls friendly and taste great for all sorts of savory and sweet alternatives.

You should follow your surgeon's guidelines. My surgeon allowed Protein Shakes and creamy Soups with no lumps at that stage. I found the most satisfying to be cream of chicken (had to remove the chicken pieces).

I eat either dannon light & fit greek yogurt or the oikos greek yogurt zero in flavors like strawberry cheesecake or caramel apple pie. Many of these yogurts have 12 grams of Protein and I choose the flavors with less than 15 grams of carbs. I also eat low carb Protein Bars. Everytime I want something sweet, I reach for a protein rich sweet.

futurefeatherweight reacted to theantichick in Being a trainer doesn't make you an expert on...
    .... ANYTHING but exercise.
    Idiot.
Ok, so the head trainer at my gym was great yesterday. I enjoyed the workout (gosh I'm in bad shape) and decided that using a trainer a few times a month wouldn't be a bad idea. I did exercises I wouldn't have thought to do, and the encouragement helps. He made a good argument for starting strength training immediately even though I believe I have a long way to go on cardio first.
So while we're setting up my contract, I get introduced to the VP over operations, and he asked what my motivation for being there was. I told him I had a bunch of health conditions that piled on last year, and ended up deciding to have the sleeve 6 weeks ago, and I don't want to blow it. I want to make the lifestyle changes needed to make this stick.
Cue the standard crap from him:
    * His mother had the lap band and then bypass. She gained all the weight back from the lap band and is only being successful with the bypass because she's finally following his directions.
    * He's has "lots" of experience dealing with post-WLS patients.
    * If I'd come to him earlier, he could have prevented me from needing the surgery. After all, the people who get the surgery say they've "tried everything" but they really haven't.
    * All the surgery does is enforce Portion Control, and that can be done without surgery.
    * But since it's already done, we'll work with what we have.
    * My surgeon doesn't know what nutrition is needed. *HE* (the VP) will tell me what I should eat. (I will give him this - I am not eating enough Protein, I'll have to really ramp that up.) Sorry, dude. When you tell me that I can't count Beans or Peanut Butter as Proteins because they're not "complete" without discussing my knowledge of nutrition, you fail. I was raised vegetarian and know perfectly well how to combine foods to get a complete protein.
    Bite me.
So I finally got rid of him, and got back to the head trainer who wanted to go through food lists (at the prompting of the VP). I had to explain to him (because I wasn't bothering with the VP) that I get *incredibly* ill in ketosis, so his "carbs are the enemy" lecture doesn't wash with me. I am willing to control my carbs so long as I'm above ketosis levels, and concentrate on complex carbs and healthy choices, but I will *not* do a ketogenic diet. Then I get a mini lecture on how tilapia is not a good choice (already knew that, but it's better than some other choices) and how swai fish is a GREAT choice. Looked that up when I got home, and it's a catfish from the far east. Sorry, dude. I don't eat bottom feeders or filter fish.
I get that most people they deal with are not well educated on nutrition. I get that trainers know more than the average bear about the subject. However, both of these guys are competitive body builders. Their nutritional approach is not going to work for everyone, and they need to learn to be flexible about it. I'm just glad we didn't even discuss veggies, because they'd be horrified to find that I just don't eat them (though I'm working on expanding my palate). And telling me to "just eat them" doesn't work, since I basically have PTSD around veggies and can't physically make myself eat something or I'll throw it up.
I wish they'd stick to the exercise piece.

During my EGD, they found a polyp in my stomach and biopsied it. My surgeon reassured me that it had a benign appearance but I still worried some until the pathology report came back.

futurefeatherweight got a reaction from Heatgirl03 in NEED HELP! Smoking.... possible Chantix?
Since you have some time, Chantix might be a good choice for you, it takes about 9-12 weeks on average to quit smoking using Chantix. It doesn't contain nicotine but it acts as a partial nicotine receptor agonist which means that it tricks your body into thinking that it is getting some nicotine. I think that the company that produces chantix provides supplemental smoking cessation support. I used to do smoking cessation counseling. My only caution with Chantix is that it can sometimes produce some interesting psychiatric side effects.

Zyban (bupropion) is another good choice. It has a few caveats as well- shouldn't use if you've ever had a history of seizures. In many places there are state ran smoking cessation programs that offer free nicotine Patches, gum, and counseling.

Hang in there. In a few weeks, the dreaded liquid diet will be a distant memory. If you haven't tried the Tylenol for the headaches, you should definitely try it if your surgeon allows. Most surgeons say no aspirin or NSAIDs- ibuprofen, naproxen prior to surgery but are ok with plain Tylenol. I had to take a big dose of Tylenol ( 1gram- 2 extra strength tablets) every morning during my pre-op diet. When I tried going without it, I had an all day long headache.
I would definitely take the hubby up on the meal prep thing. No need to torture yourself. You will probably find it much easier to prep meals for others post-op. For me, the pre-op diet period was the hardest. The hunger was terrible. Post-op, I had no problem fixing food for others because I didn't have the hunger sensation.

You should call your surgeon or at least talk to your dietitian. Every day that you don't eat, you will be getting weaker. Since you can tolerate Water, try to drink some Protein enhanced Water if you can. If you are having stomach pain and are worried, be sure to talk to your surgeon.

The only thing about Excedrin is that some formulations (for example Excedrin Migraine) contain aspirin and caffeine which most surgeons don't like you to take prior to surgery.

futurefeatherweight got a reaction from Bufflehead in What to pack for the hospital ?
@@Bufflehead has a good list. The only other thing that I took was a Kindle reader and a magazine. I found that I would only sleep in 1-2 hour increments in the hospital since there was a nurse waking me up every hour during the night- checking vitals, switching out IV Fluid, etc. I was glad that I brought something to read. It gave me something to do until I could fall back asleep.

futurefeatherweight got a reaction from ShelterDog64 in My NUT is a nut
Okay, she's not really a nut but it seems like every visit that I have had with her, she has told me something that doesn't jive with my surgeon's dietary handbook that was written by another dietitian on her team. I have pretty much decided that I'm not going to visit with her anymore.
I am a little over 4 weeks post-op. I kind of want a different nutritionist but I don't want to seem rude and I am currently not having any nutrition problems that I can't figure out on my own. I have called the surgeon's office a couple of times when she was telling me things that were way different than what my surgeon's PA told me. The surgeon told me that the PA and the guidebook were correct. Generally, the NUT is way more restrictive, doesn't think that I should be taking my pills whole, doesn't think that I should eating any meat other than canned tuna or chicken salad (chicken and mayo only). I just don't think that she understands how annoying it can be to be unnecessarily restricted to only certain foods. Should I seek out a different nutritionist? I don't necessarily think she is bad, I am just puzzled as to whether or not she has actually read the handbook that her coworker has written for my surgeon.
