Sorry Clorox, thought you were further out than Monday. ooops

12 Days Post Op - Questions?
Clorox123, yes, that was a detail.... Was your surgery done laproscopically? Didn't mean to scare you but other than lots of soreness you shouldn't be in that kind of pain especially that far out from surgery. Guess the rib thing can be painful. Hope it all goes well. Have you been back for post op check-up. Never said if your port is on right or left side. Take care. This should pass soon. Welcome to "BANDLAND!"

12 Days Post Op - Questions?
Recovery differs for everyone. I had to do liquids for two weeks post op. Moving and walking post-op as much as possible will help disapate the gas. I hope they told you that. Walk, Walk, Walk. Movement helps break apart that hugh air bubble they blew your abdomen up with. Goes from a big bubble to a bunch of smaller ones until they dissapear. Takes lot of movement. Heating pad helps too. If you are not up to par in two weeks or three tops you should see your surgeon. Clorox123 you need to call your surgeon. Where did they put your port? Right or left side? Hope you are better soon.

Hello!! Where do I begin this process??
Tami, good luck on your venture. I have BCBS Arkansas. They pay 50% of the contracted amount. Find a doctor that has a seminar close to you. Look in the forum of your state on here. You may find something close to you. That may not necessarily be the doctor of your choice. Do your homework on doctors. Check around the MI site and see what those that have had surgery recomend. Some insurances like mine didn't have to have a waiting period. My pcp wrote a letter with information I provided him. Numerous diets and diet programs, any ailments like high blood pressure, back pain, knee pain, or unable do do some every day task because weight hindered me. Some insurances will flat out deny you and you can appeal it and then it may be approved. I have seen examples of that on this site. Go to a seminar and get a good understanding of what banding is all about. Make sure that is what you want and then go for it. Many will help you with financing ect. Hope it all works out for you Let us know.

Help My husband is forcing me to eat.
Just now saw you re-post. Explain to the children why you are eating less. Also you may be eating different foods so you can get healthy and stay healthy. Also explain how much better you will be when you lose the EXCESS weight you don't need, and the doctor is helping you. If your husband has genuine concerns and I am sure he does, discuss them in private and iron out the wrinkles without fighting at dinner. THAT isn't good for anyone, let alone the children. Tell your husband dieting doesn't need to be an issue at the table. The kids will know "food" is an issue if he doesn't quit it, even though he may mean well. The kids may learn how to eat healthy along with you. I wish I had developed those eating habits instead of strugleing now. Let the kids know kids and adults need different amounts and kinds of food and why. I think this is all about understanding what everyone needs. Kids are smarter than we think. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Help My husband is forcing me to eat.
Is he overweight? I think I would try to sit down and talk with him over this, if possible. Let him know you researched this and you are being supervised by a doctor about your diet. He may not understand how this really works. Give him that oppotunity to learn and understand. If he doesn't want to do that then you have to take control of YOUR situation. All the vomiting could cause slippage, you know the rules. Does he? Take care of you and your band. I am sorry but it does sound like he has issues. I am sure you know what he is doing, and maybe why. keep us informed and we will try and help you as things progress or deteriorate. Take care. Fill us in on a little more detail of his knowlege. We might better help you if we know a little more about him.

Khanson, when you eat your meals start with your protein. Also there are some ready to drink protein drinks that are high in proteins. Like Myoplex, it has 42 grams of protein. You can get it at Target, and maybe Walmart. Look around for the ones that are extremely high in protein. You can sip around on them, one or two a day. Look at a list of high protein foods that you can eat without having to eat big quanties, especially since you are not hungry. Hope this helps.

Carol1951. You may be from the old school, "Clean Your Plate",as many of us are. How many times have we heard that? I guess we are going to have to use tablespoons to serve our plate with. Or teaspons. Then we can clean our plate, and not feel wasteful, or guilty about eating too much. You aren't crazy. I think many of us were taught not to be wasteful. That is a good thing. We are just going to have to learn to put very LITTLE on our plate. I have to work on that too. Along with a lifetime of poor eating habits, and choice of healthy food.

New band
Shatay, Welcome to Bandland. You were banded the same month as me. So I'm not an oldtimer bandster either. As long as I stay healthy and no band problems, I can only see things getting better. I am already off one medication, and hoping to shed another within a year. Even though I havent't lost too much weight very quickly I am still very optimistic. about my health, and my life as a mom, grandmother, and wife. Looking better, feeling better, and just getting around better has to be a move in the positive direction. I think you will find more self assurance as you move along this journey to a healthier you. I know I am.

Hello Kyethra. Sounds like you have had a time of it. I certainly hope things level out for you now. Wow! Have you ever lost the weight. Good for you, but sorry you had to be sick through so much of it. It should be smooth sailing for you for here on out. I mean, what else could go wrong? What does you hubby think about your new hair cut? With the weather getting so hot and humid now, (or it is where I live) you may enjoy the low maintenance. I bet it is cute. Are you still working? I haven't been to this thread in a while, looks like the weight loss is going well for many. Me? I am going to be a member of the slow losers club. I go for a fill Mon. my fourth. I am thinking this will be the one that will really help. I need help with portion control. Heres hoping. Glad you are doing better.

Hi Hopefulchurch. We have been wondering how you are! Looks like you are doing good! Trina, that sounds just awful. Take it easy and heal. cowgirldreams, suppose you band has a leak? I have heard of that. I don't know who or where your doc is but I think I would have it checked for that. Just an idea. I never heard of a 5 cc band. What kind of band do you have? I heard of 4 and 10 and one larger. Inamed I believe is the name of mine. (10cc).

How are you doing with the band 4 months out?
Hi. I am a 3/7/07 bandster. I have had three fills.(dates in sig). I didn't feel any restriction until my third fill. It isn't too much but I am aware of restriction. Still eat wayyyyyy too much. I go back for 4th fill the 23rd. I think that will be the one that might get me closer to my "sweet spot." I guess I am a member of the slow losers club that I have seen several post about. Just got to make better food choices. The portion control is what I am hoping to get control of. That has been a problem pre band as well as post band. I am worried that my pouch is stretched, but most say I would be sick if that was the case.? I have a 10cm band. Glad to see everyone is doing so well.

Arkansas Bansters!!!
Jaybee, I think you are right. Didn't realize you were that far away. I would want to be closer to my doc too. I am sure there is someone closer. Just do your homework and research on the doctor you choose. Good Luck.

Arkansas Bansters!!!
Jaybee, go to noscales.com and scroll down to the dates for free seminars. There is also dates for support meetings in Texarkana, which you are welcome to attend. Those are the second Monday of each month, 7:00 p.m. at the YWCA on Magnolia St. right off St. Line Ave. (behind Legends Gym). Just had one this week. What part of Arkansas are you from? Hope this helps. Let me know if I can help any other way.

Arkansas Bansters!!!
Hello Jaybee. I am from SW Arkansas. I have been banded for four months now. A hiatal hernia will not be a problem. I had one too. It was repaired at the same time I was banded. If you will notice there is a post from Dr. Heiker, two or three post previous to this one. He and his wife, Dr. Rachel Keilin, work as a team in Texarkana, TX. Precision Surgery is the name of their practice. Lapband surgery isn't all they do. They have a great staff. I was well pleased with them. They have a free seminar in Texarkana, at Wadley hospital, once or twice a month. It is very informative. You can ask questions, talk to staff, or the doctors themselves. They give you an information packet, with prices, financing, and most everything you need to know. I don't know if that area is convienient for you or not. Other doctors may do the same in your area, I just know about these. I hope this info helped. I will be glad to help in any way possible.

Surgery scheduled for Aug 2nd at TLBC
Kero. I am not familiar with where you are having your surgery. I live in Arkansas. I don't know exactly what your pre-op diet is either. I will share my experience with you. Many doctors have different pre and post op rules. Don't understand that. I have been banded for 4 months. I hace a 10cc Inamed Band. I had to do a liquid diet, basically. After the fourth day I could sub a garden salad (veggies only grown from the earth), for one of my protein drinks a day. Like Slim Fast Optima. 3 to 4 of those a day for two weeks. Point of that type of diet was to help shrink your liver. Makes for a safer surgery. I was so ready to do something about my weight, which I have battled for years. Also having terriffic knee problems, blood pressure, and back problems. of which all are better already. The post op was about the same diet, just different variety of liquids. Not so bad. The pre op was definitely hard for me. If you want this, and need this badly enough, you have to commit to something. I weighed the day I started and I looked at that scale and said I will never see this number again. It is a good feeling. It was the first day to a life that was going to be healthier and happier. I can already tell the difference. You will too, if you decide this is for you. After the first two weeks it gets easier by the day. Small price to pay for what you eventually get. I am glad so far that I did what I did. I had great doctors and a great support system through this web site. Visit your surgeons and their staff now, before surgery. It is important that you feel confident and secure with them, also for your after care. Hope this helps you.

Guns, Wow! I can't imagine only 800 calories, especially with your workout routine. But hey, if you can do that, good for you. I am no where near that, but I am going to try and work towards more starting Monday. I believe you are a week behind me on the surgery date. I was 3/7/07. Your hard work will pay off. It will be exciting to watch your weight and inches fall off. Way to go Guns!!!!!!!! Sue, How long will your parents be there? I don't know how you do it all!! You are sure to lose, I don't see how you have time to eat! lol. Hang in there, we might have to start calling you Ms Energetic. Mrs. Husker, keep up the could work, sounds like you are having a pay day! Get ready to buy new sweats! Hazelbunny, sorry you are so sick. Maybe the meds will kick in soon. Hurry and get better. Tammy, Thanks for the challenge. I hope to dig in Monday. We will leave for vacation the following Sat. and I have plans of getting in exercise in some form every day. Thanks for giving us the incentive to go the extra mile. I needed that, I am stalled out on weight loss right now. I put that in my signature, just hope I can change it when the time comes.
