I have never seen so much stuff required ! But if you really want to be banded then you will have to meet their criteria before they will approve you. I already had a history of trying all sorts of diet and or exercise programs. Many of which I was successful, but only short term. Many obese people can do anything short term. It is the long term that comes back to boot us in the butt. My doctors sent a letter to my insurance stating that fact. More often than not I put the weight back on and then some. This is why I chose to get the band. I needed a tool to help me long term. Some can go to groups that educate you on weight loss, nutritution, exercise, ect. and it seems to help them long range and they do not have to take drastic measures such as I did along with many others. If you can do that it is wonderful. I couldn't. So good luck on your venture, what ever it is. Stay in touch and let us know how things go for you.

March 2007 Bandsters
Day after surgery. I am soooooooo sore. Guess all that didn't show up yesterday. Nothing I can't deal with. Be glad when all the air disapates. It is verry unconfortable. I want to breath deep but can't yet. I am walking and not laying around. Just going about my usual without lifting. Wonder how long this lasts? I will just keep walking. Good luck to all you bandsters to be. Even though I am new at this, I will be glad to answer any questions you guys have.

Thanks for the congrats, all the support, and prayers. I needed them all. My doctor said I will be more sore because of the hernia repair, but I think I am doing alright. Mostly disconfort from all the air. It is up high in my chest and shoulders. Been trying to move around a lot also did some walking. I only laid down for an hour or so today. I was afraid the gas would get worse if I laid around. They said only small sips of room temperature water today. I told her I was really looking forward to the chicken broth. She said if I was feeling good tonight, no nausea ect I could try the broth. I was okay and I did have the broth. It was so good. I ask about my medications I have to crush and take and she said to goahead and take them with applesauce, just thin it. I still have a bitter taste from those pills. Yuk. I hope I will be able to get off some of the meds after I lose more weight. I hate taking those pill like that. I normally put them all in my hand and just toss them back. But of course now we can't do that. That's okay, it is worth. Anyway, I am glad to finally become a March bandster. Thanks again for all the encouragement the past couple of weeks. I don't know if I could have made it otherwise. I will try to work on my ticker thing tomorrow.

March 2007 Bandsters
This is mon. my 12th day on pre-op. I went to do my pre-registration at the hospital this a.m. I have to be there 6:00 a.m. Wed. Getting close guys. I am so ready to get this over. Get the post-op over and resume a "normal" life as a bandster. I can't believe I have stuck to my pre-op diet without ONE cheat! 3-4 Sfast daily. I can only do two. A couple of days I only got in one. one small salad earth grown stuff in it only, and ff dressing, I could substitute it for one Sfast after the third day of diet. SF drinks. That's it. I have lost 13 pounds in 13 days. So far. Hope more is off tomorrow. Think about me wed. See ya.

I am on day 10 of pre-op. Some how I only go one Sfast in today, this morning. Had a salad for lunch, and never got around to another one. Oh well, I'll call this a day of semi-fasting. I am so sick of Sfast now that I guess I don't miss it when I forget it. I had Crystal Light today too. 4 more days of SFast, thennnnnnnnnnnn......I will be a true March Bandster. Woohoo!!!!!!!! I am so ready to get this over. I have not cheated one day. I don't know how I have done it. I guess I want my liver to really shrink so surgery will be safer. Can't have a nicked liver! 4 more days...just gotta do it.........Good luck to all you guys doing the pre-op, I know how hard it is..Hang in there!!!!!!!!!

February 2007 bandsters!
Hello Carriedba. Welcome. I am one week behind you. Yes, there are many that have gotton cold feet. I have been on several different forums on here and plenty of folks get extremely nervous. Before and after. It is natural. We are getting ready to change our lives, for the better, but still a change. That is forever too. Good for you that you are taking care of business while you are so young and making changes for a healthier you. I have researched this over a year along with other options. This appears to be the safest, and if problems arise for what ever reason it is reversible. Me? I don't have time. I have to get hold of health problems now. Good luck and I hope you hang in there. It has to be your decision.

Kelly, talk with your doctor about that. Seems like you are not getting the nutrition you need. Not enough fat in your diet will cause your hair to fall out too. I did that one time. Are you still having protien drinks?

The pre-op diet is for saftey. It helps shrink your liver. You can inquire about that to a number of threads on here. Many do not require it. But my surgeons office convinced me, I am on the 5th day of pre-op. No picnic, hate it, but I will complete it as directed.

Hi glogirl. Grill chicken, zuchinni!!!!!!! All I can have is Slimfast Optima, sugar free drinks, and as of today I can trade one small salad, (green only,) for one slimfast. Period, for two weeks. My date is the 7th also. You bet it would be good! So big a difference in pre-op diets. Some don't require it at all. Read someones post the other day that had to do liquids for one month! I Better quit complaining, could be worse, huh.:phanvan- February 2007 bandsters!

Hi Silry. I am not sure what point you are at in the process of getting surgery. I am only on the 4th day of pre-op. So you are probably ahead of me. I will have surgery the 7th of Mar. Even though it has only been 4 days without food, I think I am having a better day today. Are you on liquids only? I have been on Slimfast Optima, and sugarfree fatfree liquids. It sucks! I am finding out how addicted to food I really am. Not a pretty picture. I'm not sure about your pre-op and post-op, but I have to do this for two weeks. Then it will be the fifth week after surgery when I can reintroduce solid foods. Have to build up to them slowly. Liquids, then creams, then mushies. I know this is hard for you but I keep seeing all the people that have done it and are glad they did. I want to get there too and I bet you do to. Even though it's only the 4th day, my scale is moving downward. I will never see the amount I saw on there four days ago. Find positive things to look for. I am trying to think what it will be like to get rid of this huge gut that stares me in the face every day. Some have encouraged me to look at the end results. I know that is hard when you think you are starving. Drink all you can to help stave that hunger off. You can do this. My support group keeps telling me its not forever, just keep trudging through one day at a time. I am trying to do some extra cleaning out to keep me extra busy. Trying to take on a project every day. Take care. keep us posted, we care.- February 2007 bandsters!
Kelsey, you had all that surgery together!!? No wonder you don't feel well yet. Take it easy and rest. It hasn't been that long for all you had done. Take care.- February 2007 bandsters!
Any Texarkana, TX Bandsters on here? There is a Texarkana Bandster thread in the Texas Forum. (Dr. Keilin and Heiker are the docs).- February 2007 bandsters!
Hi Tracyinks. I wanted to ask you a question. I remember a person that got banded and then was thinking about having it removed only a week or so after banding. We tried to incourage her to wait it out but I don't know if she did or not. It has been a while since that happened. I felt so sorry for her and at the same time shocked she would consider that after going through all this to get the band. I just can't remember who that was. Seemed like it was in the General forum, not sure. Do you remember?- March 2007 Bandsters
Glogirl, you just hang in there, everything will be fine if you follow the rules of the band. Your friends and family will be amazed when they look at you a few months down the road. MORE importantly, you will amaze yourself. I went back to my surgeon to be office last week with questions about pre-op, the surgery itself, and then post-op diet ect. They answered every question to the fullest. I feel better, much better. I am of course still nervous but I know I need a tool to help me lose weight on a long term basis. I have found out I can't do it on my own. I believe this is the safest long term help that there is. Not that it isn't without risk but obesity is certainly not without risk. I am suffering from some of those right now. I am on the second day of my pre-op diet. It is hard but I know I have to do it for the sake of saftey in surgery. 2 down 12 to go. You hang in there. Just think, we are never see what was on that scale again before we started the pre-op. It is going to be better and better and....... JUST GOTTA DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me too..............- March 2007 Bandsters
Hi Tracyinks. I am on day 2 of pre-op diet. OMG it is hard. At least for me. The Slimfast doesn't keep me from getting hungry. I guess I am going to start drinking more water and crystal light in between. I know what you mean about the last supper thing and tight pants. ugh! It is a good thing I finally got to the pre-op....which sucks... Anyway I know I have to do this for better saftey during surgery. Day after tomorrow I can substitute a garden salad for one SF. I will be glad to have something to chew on!!! haha!! Good luck to you too!!! What kind of pre-op do you have to do? - March 2007 Bandsters
