    Slimliz reacted to HalloweenBaby24 in 2 Years Post-Op (It's been a while).
It's been a while since I've been active on BP since I found myself pregnant at my one year surgiversary (9/8/15), But that doesn't mean I haven't been "Active" in my life!.. This year has brought so much happiness, May 25th of this year we welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world and in June moved from NJ to PA where we bought our first house. At a year out I was down 100lbs, during my pregnancy I gained 28lbs and since have lost the weight and have been maintaining my 100lb loss. Just this past week (3 months postpartum) I started back at the gym and am looking forward to getting back into the groove of things and continuing on with my WLS journey and future success.
    Hope everyone is doing well!

Slimliz reacted to VSGAnn2014 in Anyone with hyper/hypothyroidism?
I have a less-than-normal functioning thyroid (hypothyroidism). Have taken levoxyl for nearly 35 years. I think a lot of WLS patients have thyroid issues.
There's no way to know how much (or even if) my hypothyroidism has affected my weight loss. Frankly, it doesn't matter whether or how much your thyroid affects your weight loss. It is what is is. And you just go ahead post-op with all the same behaviors you're supposed to use. And you will lose weight. And if you are consistent with your new behaviors / lifestyle you'll reach your weight loss goal and maintain your weight loss.
For the record, here's my pre- and post-WLS monthly weight losses. I'm 70 years old and 5'5" tall:
    Highest weight - 235 pounds
Weight on surgery day - 216 pounds
    (Weight lost pre-op) - 19 pounds

    Post-op weight losses:
    Month 1 - 10.4 lbs
    Month 2 - 11.8 lbs
    Month 3 - 9.2 lbs
    Month 4 - 10.4 lbs
    Month 5 - 6.8 lbs
    Month 6 - 5.0 lbs
    Month 7 - 6.2 lbs
    Month 8 - 4.4 lbs
    Month 9 - 3.8 lbs
    Month 10 - 1.8 lbs
    Month 11 - 2.6 lbs
    Month 12 - 0.6 lbs
    Month 13 - 1.2 lbs
    Month 14 - 1.0 lbs
    Month 15 - 1.6 lbs

Slimliz reacted to Sajijoma in Today I am officially not "plus sized" what a colossal NSV for me!
I went shopping today because I desperately needed pants that fit. I wasn't sure what would fit so I tried on 16's and they were too big. Then I tried on 14's and they were kinda loose. I thought just for jiggles I'd try on some 12's and they fit! I was so shocked I actually broke down crying in the changing room. I have always been good at keeping my emotions locked down tight, but in there at that moment, I totally lost it and started bawling and LOUD. The changing room attendant knocked on the door and asked if I was ok. It took me awhile, but I managed to get the words out that I was ok and that I had found out I was a smaller size than I thought I was. I'M sure she thought I had lost my ever loving mind, but for me, this is a monumental thing. I had been an overweight kid and an obese adult, my entire life! The size I put on and zipped up, I NEVER had been that size. The closest I had to being that size was a size 11 juniors in 4th grade, so here I am, over 30yrs later and I am finally smaller than I was in 4th grade. It was monumental. I also discovered why it's important to check the price tag before falling in love with a pair of pants because $115 for a pair of pants I probably won't get more than a couple months wear out of was just too much, so I had to put them back. Broke my heart, but I did go on to find other 12's and some 14's that worked and I am officially not plus sized anymore. I can shop in the regular section with all the cute clothes!❤️ From 32/34 and some 36 down to a size 12 in less than a year...all I can say is wow! Thanks RNY for giving me a life I didn't know was attainable!

You've got to give yourself a good, swift kick in the ass and get back at it!
You've lost THIRTY THREE pounds in less than 8 weeks...when have you EVER done that before?? I've lost 48 in TEN WEEKS...why would either of us sabotage ourselves at this point? We've had this huge, life-changing surgery and to not change our lives would be such a colossal lost opportunity. Stop eating bread and crap that's not helping you right now. Jump back into Protein shakes if you need, to reset your head and your stomach.
I've watched you since you got here (your photo grabbed my attention, I'm an OR nurse!) and you've been so upbeat and ON PLAN. Stop yourself from slipping into bad habits RIGHT NOW and get back on track! I'll message with you every day, I'll come back to this thread every day, we can share what we've eaten, I'll cry with you and yell at you and you can yell at me...but don't let this momentary bump in the road turn into anything bigger. You can do this. WE can do this, all of us.

Happy Labor Day everyone! My procedure is tomorrow morning at 7am. I have to be at the hospital at 5. I am so incredibly nervous! I haven't told anyone that I'm having wls so I don't really have anyone to talk to about it. I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be. I know I won't be able to sleep so I will be preparing meals for my family for the rest of the week and cleaning the house tonight. I have 5 kids so I'm actually looking forward to being away for a day. I can't wait to see the new me!

Will you be having surgery at Baylor Trophy Club?
I hope to have my surgery late July or early August. Let's stay in touch!

Slimliz reacted to UpandAtom in Three month progress report
Hello folks! I had my sleeve three months ago and want to post my progress. Here's the stats:
    Highest weight- 380
    Start weight-365
    Surgery weight-351
    Current weight-275
First of all I cannot believe I have lost over 100 pounds since my all time high. I used to think that if I could get down to 280 and stay there then is be happy. But I could never get down under 300 in all my weight loss attempts over the last 15 years. I used to see 275 as normal overweight! Now I'm dead set on getting to 200.
I exercise daily by walking and biking and plan To step it up once I have my knee surgery. I walk a lot even though my knee is in great pain sometimes.
Most days/times I feel fabulous but still suffer some nausea if I'm not careful what I eat. I think that's a good thing because it is a great learning tool for nor overeating!
I was I. Vacation recently and did things I never could have or would have done as recently as last year. I hiked daily, went canoeing a lot, swam a lot and rowed several miles in a rowboat as part of a camp triathlon. I probably logged five miles a day on foot. I canoed a fast river with my wife and manouvered like I did in my 20s. I could not even have canoed at all last year. I couldn't even have stood up from the seat, I was too big and my knees were too bad. Even with my recent injury to my knee, I could get up easy.
I am also just generally more active. I swim I. The backyard, have been working a lot around the house and am restoring a vintage carpenters bench for use as a kitchen island.
This is the best thing I've ever done. I just bought a new car, a Nissan pathfinder that I plan to use for more camping adventures.
If you are in the fence about getting this done, I highly recommend this surgery. It is the gateway to a new life!! Oh yeah, and my bariatrician asked me to speak at their informational meetings!
    Best to all!

I am so happy to find that there are others in my age group. I am 62 and thought that I had waited too long to make the decision to have gastric sleeve surgery. I was relieved to have the doctor confirm that It is not too late. I am waiting for insurance approval and have started the ore-op tests in the meantime. Hope to have the surgery late July or early August.
Those of you that already had surgery, how long was your hospital stay?

No regrets here regarding having surgery.

I DO, however, regret 20+ years of obesity and yo-yo dieting. I do regret the irreparable damage I've done to my joints. I do regret 15 years of rarely appearing in front of the camera with my kids as they grew up because I hated seeing myself in pictures. I do regret all the vacation opportunities I missed because I was too unfit to run the dunes/ride the horse/fit in the roller coaster/hike the mountain/participate in the school 10k/etc. I regret being the fat mom in the room. I regret being a horrible body image role model to my two teens. I could go on...

No, I never regretted the idea of surgery. I was scared and nervous, but I knew it needed to be done to get my life back.

I hope so too! I was only on Metformin. I needed insulin twice in the hospital (that is totally normal with this surgery) but I went home on no diabetes medication and then at 3 months my A1c was normal and I am not considered a diabetic anymore. it was the main reason I had surgery and I am so thrilled.
wishing you all the best, and please let us know how you do with this post op.

    Dear HFFM,
I haven't been on this site in quite awhile, but I logged on today & your post caught my eye. I'm 3 years out this month. Six months after my sleeve surgery, my husband was killed in a fire. The fact is, any one of us could die today, tomorrow, next week, or next month. We get in cars, cross busy streets, fly in planes, and do many other things that expose us to risk. There's no way to control all risk. You sound like a loving, committed husband and father. You are having this surgery to increase your odds of having more time with them. You have prepared for the possibility of something happening to you, and you have provided for them if/when that day comes. You have controlled for as much as you can, and big kudos to you for doing so. The rest of it is simply out of your control. Take a deep breath, kiss that beautiful wife and son, and keep moving forward. Best of luck to you!
