Clear liquid diet does not include Protein shakes. This means you must be able to "see" through the liquids which include broth and Jello. The first surgeon I consulted with said no need to do the diet. He said he had never seen ant patient that had such an enlarged liver that interfered with surgery. He said it was really tough on the patient to be on pre-op liquid diet. I went for a second opinion and this doctor emphatically says I need 3 weeks all liquid diet with Protein shakes. I just had my EGD yesterday and I have had acid reflux for years that is managed with diet and over the counter omeprazole. My gastroenterologist said that as long as I did not eat large amounts and stuck to the recommended diet and portions I should not have problems with the sleeve. Thank you so much for sharing your pre op experience! I also have bad knees and will need to have the nuclear stress test. I am very apprehensive about the chemically induced portion of it. Yolie, I am having gastric sleeve with Dr Holden (Kim Bariatrics) and she requires 3 weeks pre-op diet with Protein Shakes and liquids. I was beginning to think I was the only one that had to do 3 weeks! Will you be having surgery at Baylor Trophy Club? I hope to have my surgery late July or early August. Let's stay in touch! Congratulations ! So glad to hear of all the positives results and especially no pain and able to walk as well as before surgery. Where do you order the white slider?

I am so happy to find that there are others in my age group. I am 62 and thought that I had waited too long to make the decision to have gastric sleeve surgery. I was relieved to have the doctor confirm that It is not too late. I am waiting for insurance approval and have started the ore-op tests in the meantime. Hope to have the surgery late July or early August. Those of you that already had surgery, how long was your hospital stay?

I had my first visit with the surgeon and i am excited that I am going to have the gastric sleeve surgery in July. I was surprised that the Doctor said I would go home the same day. Everyone I know that had this surgery stayed at least 1 day overnight. Has anyone gone home the same day? If so do you wish you had been able to stay?

I am excited that I will have surgery late July or early August and I am so glad to have found this forum! I was shocked to hear my surgeon say I needed to be on Protein shakes for 3 weeks prior to surgery. I had always heard 1-2 weeks and some people even less. I understand the importance of doing this to help shrink the liver, but I was surprised. Anyone else have to do 3 weeks?
