I hope to have VSG soon. One last appointment for insurance. I think if people ask me when I am going to stop losing weight I'll tell them I'm trying to get to my birth weight. Hahaha

I hope to have surgery in November. I don't feel like lying forever so if someone asks I'm just going to say it's personal. I figure most people won't ask again.

I am in my 6th month for my insurance requirement and I have only told my husband, kids and sister. In six months my sister has never asked me about the surgery. I told her the other day to speak now or forever hold your peace. She said one word "nervous?" Literally one word in a half a year. I don't want to hear a thing after the surgery. I'm not even going to tell her my surgery date when I have one. I'm glad my husband is supportive because I've got no support there.

That definitely isn't a true friend. I have learned that the best thing you can ever do for yourself is cut out negativity from your life because it'll only bring you down. I am still in the early stages of my journey and already my family is tired of me talking about it or showing them you guys success. I am to the point where the only person who really supports me and is excited it my man and quite frankly I okay with that because I've made up my mind about what's best for me and nobody will bring me down.

I'm in the six month period for my insurance and I feel like I just suck at keeping on track. Anyone else do terrible during the waiting period and then be successful with the sleeve? If I could do this by myself I wouldn't be trying to have surgery. How do I stay on track during this long wait?

How does a person eat a cow???? ONE BITE AT A TIME!
That's how I recommend you stay on track pre operatively. (no. not by eating a cow.... )
You break down the six months into DAYS. You succeed one day at a time. If you falter one day, you give yourself a virtual slap in the kisser, pull your big girl panties up and do better the next day.
Pretty soon you will have built a solid foundation on which to pave your successful WLS journey.
With all of the pre op app'tments, documentation and consultations, six months is not an overly long period of time to get everything done AND get your head focused on your life changing eating regime.
Start today. Finish today. Start again tomorrow. Finish tomorrow. ----- One day at a time. One step at a time.
"Make the most of what you have and the least of what you haven't."
I look forward to observing your successful and joyful journey.

I had the exact same thoughts as you today, actually. I recently decided that the VSG would be a very successful tool for me, but my insurance company also requires the 6 month period with a doctor to lose weight before surgery. If I could do this on my own, I wouldn't be here! However, I imagine as insurance companies go, they need to see commitment from us that we'll do whatever we need to do to make this happen once and for all. Lots of chicken and green vegetables -- tons of Protein and Water. That always works wonders for my weight loss.
I most likely will not be getting surgery until next December -- my company always has a plant shutdown for 2 weeks (which is ideal for having surgery without being noticed) but I'm too close to the shutdown this year and have just started thinking of the VSG as an option...so have to wait another 16 months!
Eeek! Promised my husband I would give natural diet and exercise one more try...

the reason we say this is a very powerful tool is because it is. We all fell "off the wagon" before surgery, and none of us are 100% perfect at it after surgery. so hang in there, I know it's tough. keep trying. keep that goal in mind. I had to wait a year for my surgery, so I know how tough it can be. but it is all worth it!

Yes, I am feeling stick too. I need to get the problems in my head first I am thinking. I can hardly wait to sucker punch this weight problem, when ever that happens. It has totally controlled and taken over my life like a bad drug addiction. Everyone says, just do this 6 month diet. That's like telling a drug addict to just quit drugs. My insurance wants me to lose 15 pounds, but, that's not easy to do I wish my insurance gave some intense eating disorder therapy before surgery, but they don't. They just tell you to go to a dietician. The last dietician I went to told me to eat a tomatoes with a little cottage cheese for dinner, yeah, that's not hapoening

I just finished with my last NUT visit, I too had to do 6 months supervised weight loss and I actually gained 10 pounds in the 6 months. Good thing my insurance doesn't require me to lose weight or I would be screwed. I will say this don't be so hard on yourself try your best and just stay focused on the end goal and that's Surgery. Good luck!

I started the process in 2013, my insurance wanted me to lose 15% of my weight back then, I couldn't do it, I was so close just a few pounds to go. I remember just breaking down sobbing when I got weighed and I was at the deadline and got denied. It is so hard, and the only advice I can give it to change your habits some how. My problem was parties, get togethers, and eating out. I had to stop all that in order to change.
Luckily in2015 my insurance changed and I got approved real fast, my surgeon got me in as quick as possible before my insurance changed again. I'm 8 months post op now , have lost over 84 pounds and is 16 pounds from my goal of 150.
Do whatever you need to do to get your surgery date, I thank god for my sleeve, I'm really living life now, it's so worth the struggle, good luck! And keep us posted !

Oh my gosh, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I read people's posts and they all seem so positive and it seems like it's so easy for them. If it was easy for me I wouldn't be fat. Time is just dragging and I keep thinking if I could have had the surgery months ago I would already be a smaller person. But I can't do anything about that so I just have to wait.

I weigh in Thursday for my last time!!! Then my 6 months will be up. I feel like 6 months is way too long, it actually makes me angry to think I could be 50 pounds lighter right now if the wait period was only 3 months instead.Honestly, I've learned nothing. I've lost 5 pounds. I just want the dang surgery right now!
