NIKKI BABY reacted to Tssiemer1 in Husband rant
I'm pre op and my husband is such a bastard sometimes I'm not sure how things will go after surgery.
I can't even talk about how mad I am right now. It's the night before my birthday. You spend all day with your family (I'm not invited) then you're too tired to go out with me?????!!!!!
Then he fell asleep at 9:30 after he said he'd watch a movie with me.
This is just one of at least 10 things he's done JUST THIS WEEK and I let a lot of shit go because it's just not worth it anymore.
I'm tired of being mad and upset and feeling left out and second best. I'm tired of it. I'm going to start being happy without him.
I hope you find a way to make yourself happy.

I think I had it all figured out in my head that since everything went so smoothly for me pre-op, that it would just continue and be magical until I reached goal...Yeah, right. I never expected to do better pre-op than I have post-op. I find it to be very odd, quite honestly. I am so glad I had the surgery, and I still very much see it as a blessing. I was just so unprepared for it to be harder to lose after surgery!!! And I don't care what anybody says, it is very possible to be physically hungry after the sleeve. I am on a PPI which has worked like a charm. I still get hunger pain. I know what it feels like to be physically hungry. I still have head hunger, too, but I know the difference. It's all very strange and wonderful and maddening, LOL.

I had my surgery 7-15-2016 , exactly 1 mth ago and it's very hard and life changing. I wonder everyday what did I just do.. ? To myself. It's very hard and nothing easy about it. Your food choices change and it's very emotional. Restaurants you can forget them for now. I do follow the food plan, I am very strict and careful on what I am eating. If you get somethings stuck one time you will never try to do that again.. It's hard. I do see weight loss.. I have lost 30pounds in 1 mth since surgery. I am 8 pounds from under 200 pounds.. Can't wait for that. But it's been hard. I just wish everyone luck on there journey if your just starting. It does get better, everyday. But it's still hard and emotional. Good luck!

NIKKI BABY reacted to Renkoss in 1 week today! The nerves have set in.
I'm 10-1/2 weeks out from surgery, down 40 lbs, and my words of wisdom is just relax. The excitement, anxiety, worrying isn't doing you any good. Calm down! Go into this knowing that once you are in the operating room, and they put you under, your life will be different when you wake; but different in a good way. The first week you will have discomfort and pain, and you will be tired and question why you did this to yourself. But, week 2 you begin to feel better, and week 3 even better, and by week 4 you are feeling pretty good! I feel pretty normal now, have finally realized what "full" feels like now, and am enjoying being down at least 1 size already.
Nerves and anxiousness is normal; just don't let it get to you and make it negative. This is a positive thing you are doing for your health. You will get through it and you will be darn happy you made this choice. Good Luck!

    Hi guys,
This time next week I will be in hospital recovering from my bypass. I'm doing my best to stay relaxed and calm but the nerves are starting to set in.
Any words of wisdom from you guys who have been through it or anyone else feeling the same? What are the first couple of days like?
    Thanks in advance.

NIKKI BABY reacted to AmusedMuse in 3 days postop, my story
First off, I am considered a 'low BMI' patient and recall asking my doc over a decade ago about GB with insurance paying for it. She laughed and told me I'd qualify if I gained 40 pounds, kept it on for 2+ years while trying to lose weight, and developed co-morbidities. I was fairly trim until my 30s but have 2 problems contributing to consistent weight gain. First, I have really big boobs, and if that sounds silly try exercising with them. Second, I can eat the same amount as everyone around me but I gain weight while they lose or stay the same. I had anecdotally seen this for years when I discovered 'myfitnesspal' about 6 years ago and began tracking. I discovered I have to stay below 1000 calories per day not to gain weight, and drop to below 800 to lose. That is simply unsustainable. 5 years ago I went on phentermine and lost 35 pounds. While that was great, like most dieters I cannot sustain the weight loss. I stumble home exhausted, with no energy, and at night begin to crave food. That pretty much goes along with the research on those who have lost weight but not been able to keep it off; reduced metabolism by about 50% and the necessity to eat 500 fewer calories than a 'normal' weight person in order to sustain the weight loss. My weight has been climbing steadily for the past 3 years, and as I've gotten close to my highest weight my energy has returned and my weight leveled off. Still, though, I am frustrated at not being able to keep it off.
After reading the latest articles on the inability of 99% of weight losers to successfully keep weight off, I began to think about bariatric surgery. I was considering India for its low cost, but English friends told me a lot of Brits have serious problems with their surgeries there. I have a cousin in Belgium, though, an American who married a Belgian man, and she has glowing things to say about medicine in Belgium. In looking around I discovered Dr. Bruno Dillemans and the International Surgery Group ('ISG' based in Ireland) and contacted them. Dr. Dillemans reviewed my information online and suggested a standard Rouen Y gastric bypass. He told me that in his experience this is the gold standard and patients who demand other surgeries such as the sleeve, which many of his international patients request, end up coming back for the full bypass. He asked several questions via email and the ISG. For reasons of cost and convenience I elected to have my pre-op tests and consult done the morning of my surgery. I know some people have an aversion to this, but I did my research, knew my general health was quite good, and didn't see much reason to have a consult one day and operation the next, as my mind was made up.
My surgery was 3 days ago, June 21st - hard to believe it's been just about 70 hours! I checked in at 7:30 AM with clear and good instructions from ISG. First up was a series of 3 tests; bloodwork, lung xray, and EKG. As has been my experience in another European hospital the results were processed right away and the doctor had them by the time I met with him at noon. In my room as I waited for them to take me to surgery I thought to myself, "Why am I doing this to a perfectly healthy body?!" But I am a professor and researcher and have read all the literature and the reality is our chance of losing weight on our own is almost non-existent. Once one has gained weight the body will fight forever to return to that weight. We should tell every young person this basic fact and try to prevent them from gaining weight in the first place. When they came to roll me from my room to the surgical suite I said to the orderly, "oh now I am really nervous," and she smiled kindly and said, "Everyone is at this point, everyone, and some are quite terrified." That, plus the surgeon's record, were quite reassuring.
The process itself was smooth and I remember little. I was interested in the side by side metallic operating room doors which opened as people went in and out - I could see another laparoscopic operation going on in mine. I was in a little bay outside the operating room and the anesthesiologist and a tech went over everything thoroughly. Interestingly, on the ceiling was a security camera dome - apparently they film everything that's going on so can review the tapes if there is a future problem. The very kind tech held a mask near my face and asked me to breathe deeply. I recall going under and saying, "Here I go, I'll see you on the other side..." I recall only a bit of the recovery room and asking several times if I could turn on my side as it hurt to breathe, but they would not let me. Finally I was taken back to my room and the Dr. and his resident came to check on me. My drain was bleeding a lot and they examined it. Dr. Dillemans explained that he had stretched the incision with the equipment and the edge was bleeding so they would need to put 2 more stitches in, which they did. The Resident commented that I was the "Stoic American" and, thank heavens, told me that I could (finally) roll onto my right side, I slept most of the rest of that day. I recall asking if I could get up and walk to the bathroom but the nurses wouldn't let me, saying it was too soon after surgery (I think in the US they try to get you up asap, so this was different). I finally called for a bedpan and that nurse was a bit short with me - I asked her to close the window blinds and she said "we will do it when we come in to check you," and I realized they were in the middle of rounds so simply told her, "Thank you, but I have no way of knowing that" and she seemed a bit chagrined. I only called for a nurse one other time and both times the response was within 2 minutes.
Overall I am thus far happy that I went ahead with this. At least now I have 'a chance' where before I feeling pretty hopeless about sustaining weight loss. The Belgian hospital and procedures were stellar, super clean (they tested me for MERSA as well as 2 other common bacterial infections), cleaned my room 2x per day, were state of the art and efficient. I don't like nurses hovering around me and they didn't, but checked up on me every hour or so and came immediately when I called. Total cost of the medical portion was $9,981. Since I was already coming to Europe anyway there was no added expense other than the hotel, which I split with my cousin since she wanted to visit friends in Brugge.
I weighed today, expecting my weight would be the same since I don't feel any smaller and they stuffed me full of IV drugs, but I've already lost nearly 10 pounds. I recommend this to anyone going through the same struggles and frustration with weight. I'm happy to share info or insights with anyone thinking of this route.

My RNY is June 14th, 3 days after my birthday! I'll be on my pre-op diet then but I've been following a similar diet for the past month so it's not such a shock. I can Celebrate next birthday when I'm healthier! I'm freaking out about getting my Protein and Water in post op. But I'm a bit of a planner so the unknown scares me. Nothing else is phasing me. I'm so excited !!

This scares me too! What happened to only getting WLS if you had 100 lbs or more to lose - or you had significant medical issues (diabetes) that would resolve with GB. When I see what is probably a "normal" sized person (except on the BMI chart) removing 80% of their stomach or re-routing their entire intestinal system to lose 40 - 50 lbs - I wonder what the hell were they thinking. I think this also gives a bad opinion of WLS in general and why some think it's the "easy way out".

Your stomach is in your chest, right under your breast bone. It is no where below your ribs, where people claim they are having all this hunger and noise. Which is really digestion. A lot of this confusion could be fixed by people doing live swallow tests. I think the only people on this forum that have had one are me and JaimeLogical, at least people that talk about it. You can see that liquids go right through the sleeve, and you can see your small intestines and you learn where your stomach is and isn't.
I think programs do a really poor job educating people, and since the sleeve is an easy and very profitable surgery for Doctors this is only going to get worse.
I think the most disturbing thing I am seeing in the past year or so reading WLS forums is the number of people with low BMIs and obvious eating disorders having surgery. The sleeve is an anorexic dream. As WLS moves more and more to being easily profitable in the US and other places this is going to become a bigger problem.

You can "guarantee" NO SUCH THING.
==and to give the example that "surgeons in Mexico" do more surgeries than those here at home--the USA therefore are more experienced is not only ridiculous but an extremely dangerously misleading statement.
"Assembly line surgery" (not my statement, but that of the Bariatric Surgeons of The United States), does not make surgery better. It just makes it fast. Is "fast" really what one wants when one is out cold and having someone in a rush cutting into their guts?
Home here in the USA, we have Bariatric Centers of Excellence with many surgeons with more than 20, 30 years of board certified successful bariatric surgeries.
I truly believe that the above statement of "Henry's" is totally misleading, nonfactual and extremely dangerous.
Please, also consider ---what if one has complications having surgery in Mexico??? Where do you go? Who do you see? The Mexican government historically has NOT "gotten involved" with medical malpractice situations. Ever try suing a doctor in Mexico?? Good luck with that.
Read some of the horror stories. One case where a man had bariatric surgery in Mexico, had complications. What was done for him? He was driven to the US border and left in a motel! --or the woman who paid for bariatric surgery in Mexico, just to find out years later that the Mexican surgeon cut into her, but never did her sleeve. Ask her how her suit is going against that Mexican surgeon. The stories go on and on.
I know there are many folks who went to Mexico and had a successful surgery. I'm just not sure whether it's worth rolling the dice. I would hope that one has enough love for one's self to wait until the money is saved to have the surgery here, at home, in the USA, where if there are complications the chance of a successful recourse is attainable.
just think about it. Do your research. EVERYTHIING you can find to read. Only then can you make an informed decision.
On this day, this is my own personal opinion.
    God be with us.

    The surgeons have MORE experience??
Just because one reads a statement on the internet does NOT mean that it is true or factual.
PLEASE research, research and then research if considering going outside the USA for bariatric surgery--or any surgery.
More experienced???? REALLY????? SMH, SMH, SHM.
PRAYERS GOING UP FOR---ALL OF US.

Was there any thing that anyone did that helped them get through this mentally and psychically? I feel like I'm going to fail at this . Any help?

I had severe acid reflux (GERD). As a result, this is a recommended surgery because the sleeve will only make the condition worse.
Also, RNY gastric bypass is almost a gold standard. It has been around a lot longer and they have for the most part got the bugs worked out. It has one of the lowest revision rates and I decided if I underwent the knife once, I sure would not want to repeat the experience.
