I am a little over 2 weeks out and mashed potatoes were on my approved list for purée. I tried it once but found out quickly that for me, it led to major carb cravings. I had been doing fine and not really craving anything. The day I had mashed potatoes and the day after, it was as though my mind was continually obsessing over what kind of cheat food I could fit in my sleeve. It was crazy. I stopped the carbs and went back to not really thinking about or wanting food that wasn't on my list.
For me, I just have an easier time when I'm eating my measured portion without much enthusiasm because it's time to eat rather than craving things and eating as much as I can until I'm full. But of course, everyone is different and it takes trial and error to figure out what works best for you. There is no shame in trying mashed potatoes.

My nut told me soft scrambled egg and mashed potatoes but that I would only be able to eat a couple spoonfuls before I got full, but apparently I pushed it with the cup, so I am going to just stay away from them and take the advice to eat yogurts and eggs. Your stomach looks like the picture I attached. It's far from being fully healed, so there are nerves that are cut and your "full" sensations may be a little wonky.
Everyone is right. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Get into the habit of measuring things out and stopping when it's gone. You'll be glad you started that habit!

Mashed potatoes, depending on the consistency, can be a "slider" food. They were on my approved foods for pureed stage, so those of you who replied with "you shouldn't be eating those" need to be aware that everyone gets different guidelines.
When I first started out with soft foods, I could only get in 1/4 cup, now I can do 1/2 cup of something like refried Beans or cottage cheese. Fish or something that requires more chewing and has more Protein I can only get in 2.5 oz.
Don't worry too much, nobody is perfect at this, and there is quite a bit of trial and error involved! You'll get the hang of it.
And stay off the scale for a while, it's better for your peace of mind

I read and did alot of research before surgery so I feel I was prepared for everything, and yes the shoulder pain was terrible everything else has been a piece of cake, I am 12 days post op and was going to gym the day after I got home so I have recovered well so far no complications, no pain in fact I wouldn't even know I had the surgery if it wasn't for the fact that I am still on liquids only.

Starting weight was 240 , day of op (on 3/28) I was 233, a week and a half ago i was 218 for nearly 2 weeks, and this morning the scale went down to 217. I have been struggling with the stall too. These forums have helped me sooooo much in letting me know it is normal, and to just keep on doing what your doing, and eventually your body will catch up. The worst thing to do is get discouraged, try to stay positive! Positivity is a lifesaver.

I am not and see no need for one. It would seem dangerous and counterproductive, especially soon after surgery.

I wish that I knew how emotional I would be the week after surgery.
I wish I knew that the "after" was really not that bad. (at least for me) I worried so much about nausea and inability to eat/drink before surgery...My doctors took good care of me and I had none of those issues.
I wish I knew that the week after surgery it is entirely possible to not lose weight even though all you do is drink. It apparently can happen any time....and can last a while. (I started getting regrets)
I wish I knew that unflavored Protein powder...is not flavorless. I still haven't found a way to add it to any food. Instead I stick to keeping Protein supplements between meals and choosing foods that have protein in them. I track everything on myfitnesspal and I'm meeting my goals with out that expensive useless jar of nasty powder.< /p>

For the hospital, definitely bring Chapstick and stock up on it because you will need it all the time. Same with lotion for dry skin.
I also bought way too much canned fruit, Soups, and broth for the early stages. Just loaded up a big tub of it to give away.
Get rid of all junk food before your surgery. If it is not in the house you will not be tempted to eat it. My surgery was right before Halloween and I had to buy candy for the kids. Turned out I didn't have any and that candy kept calling to me until I threw it out.
My recovery was really easy with almost no pain. So I can't think of anything special that you need for that.
Emotionally, you need to prepare that this is not a diet, it is a lifelong journey. You will never be able to eat like you once did, and it can be a struggle every day. Be sure to have hobbies or other things to fill your time. I'm the most hungry when I'm bored. It is head hunger, but is hard to get rid of.
Start exercising NOW! Just walking if you don't currently exercise, but get moving. It will help you recover quicker from surgery and it will be a habit by the time you are pre op.
Good Luck! I'm sure you will do fine.

What I know at 5 months out is........ the weight WILL COME OFF. I was soooooo impatient. My advice is RELAX. Take it one day at a time. You will be losing large amounts of weight and it won't come off in equal increments. Trust the process. 64 oz of Water daily, as well as 80 grams of Protein when you're able. Once your get your legs back under you be sure to WALK as much as possible..... Final Suggestion, TRUST THE PROCESS. Don't get too anxious, as the weight will come off. You will have stalls. Don't panic. You will average a lot of weight loss per month for the first few months for sure... Enjoy the ride.

I had some minor complications after my surgery, but I went back to the gym at about 6 weeks. It was pitiful. I was getting maybe 400 calories a day. I was literally curling 15 lbs and getting exhausted. I was a winded mess after 10 minutes. But I stuck with it. I am fortunate that the people that work at the gym I go to are very encouraging and every day that I came back they applauded my effort.
Hell, the weight coach wanted me to do an interview on my transformation, but I told him I just wasn't comfortable with that.
Sorry, I am rambling; my point is this. You are going to be weak. You will be shaky too. Just be aware that you won't be the beast in the gym just yet. Slow and steady is what will win this race. You are not training for a competition, you are establishing lifestyle habits. There is a difference! Don't try and get huge muscle gains, just get healthy!
My first year goal was to reach weight loss goal. I never made one for a bench or squat or anything. My year two goal is to be able to do 1 honest to god pull-up. I have never done one in my life. Not even as a kid. I think that would be the biggest accomplishment with the most meaning to me!

For me.....it was around 11 weeks.
The long delay was due to having a simultaneous umbilical hernia repair, my third on that location, at the time of my VSG surgery.
The sleeve was a cake walk to recover from........the hernia took 3 weeks before I returned to work.
    Thanks, Bro.
Far from full beast mode.....but there is hope that one day I will be.
I used to have a goal for a 500 lb bench press by age 50.
Now.......I just want to be able to rip off a 5K race at a moment's notice by age 50.
I'm under no illusions that I'll be a gym warrior........but being able to please my woman at anytime day or night is my main goal........and do this until she & I are in our nursing home days.......that's really all that matters to me.
That and being a dude that maintains her trust at all times.
    Simple dude with simple passions.
