I had surgery on Tuesday and all went well. I really thought I had myself prepared for this. I have felt much worse than expected. Day 2 was the worst but I'm slowly getting better. I have to keep reminding myself that what I am going through is short term and I do this by going back and reading everyone's success stories. I can see the silver lining.

KristenLe reacted to The New Kel in Found out the pain is spasms, not a stricture!
I am one month post op, on "soft foods".
I have been having discomfort with everything except for cottage cheese and yogurt. I'm on soft foods and even very soft chicken and fish gives me pain right where the esophagus meets the stomach opening. It is like a lot of pressure and makes eating difficult. It takes about 15-20 minutes until it passes into the stomach and pain subsides.
I was fearful I had a structure. I just spoke to my surgeons nurse, who said it sounds exactly like spasms. Therefore she ordered Levson, a tablet I will take 15 minutes before meals. I was actually sent home with some, but thought it was for nausea.
I am glad it's not a stricture. I'll start taking this stuff tonight before dinner and see how it goes.

I had my surgery June 16th 2016 and I am down 72 pounds . I am extremely happy with my decision even though after surgery I experienced vomiting throughout the summer and ended up having my gall bladder taken out in August . I really feel like having the sleeve was the best decision I ever made .

Oh my where do I start... Well it was Halloween and now I have post Halloween blues! The parties, the decorations and choosing costumes, trick or treating has dominated my last 6 weeks. Now it is over and I am stuck in the house with my kids candy! On to Christmas! I am also into the walking dead, Star Wars (obsessed with Rouge 1), shopping for cute cloths and anti wrinkle products (prob need to start a post on that) and sadly this election. I think it is seriously causing me anxiety! Can't wait until it is over.

Post-op, I just couldn't do Protein Shakes anymore - ordered GENEPRO based on recommendations and it might be just what I needed. I've been enjoying my mushy foods but couldn't get enough Protein and Isopure Protein Drinks are somewhat disgusting. I just added a scoop of Genepro to roasted butternut squash and it's delicious. I'm hoping my stomach agrees with me.

I don't like them, and had high hopes for them. I bought 4 flavors to try. The red one was ok but medicine aftertaste. The green apple was awful. The other two flavors are sitting in the back of my fridge untouched, lol!
Here's the good news: after experiencing Isopure drinks, my premier Protein chocolate shakes suddenly taste better .

I tried three different flavors during my "clear liquids" phase and I didn't like a single one of them. They have a very medicinal taste, to me. Definitely try them before you buy bulk.

I personally can't stand Isopure rtd's. I bought one of every flavor from luckyvitamin.com. I had high hopes but I can't stand the aftertaste.
But there are some people I've talked to who like the stuff. If you decide to try it, don't buy a case. Just buy one of each flavor and go from there.

Thanks everyone! I absolutely thought the pain was related to my sleeve, so I was completely shocked to learn it was appendicitis and not related at all. My baritatric team was involved-came down to the ER and took a look as well as looked at the CT to make sure there weren't any obstructions in my sleeve. They said it was a total coincidence and very very rare that this would happen as related to the sleeve. I think the sleeve really saved me though-under normal circumstances I would NEVER go to the ER for some pain in my belly-I only went because I was afraid it had something to do with the sleeve-talk about divine intervention!!
My nutritionist also called after surgery to advise me on diet-said I should go back to stage 1 and stick with just shakes for about 4-5 days. And, of course, just two weeks after I started back with intense workouts at Orange Theory, now I need to go easy for another six weeks while my new wounds heal on top of my "old" ones.
But, all in all, I feel so lucky to have caught this before something very bad happened. We all know surgery is no picnic, but at least my sleeve helped me to catch it early!

At this stage - you shouldn't even pay attention to calories. Protein and fluids! I have found refried Beans filling. I add a little cheese and sour cream. I am putting GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder in my food too. I can't stand shakes.

@@laura1116 You can't go by your weight this early out. You're probably still dealing with the fluids from the IVs and swelling. Stay off the scale. Calories are not the concern either - are you meeting your plans fluid goals?

@@Spectra13 It's not too late to have therapy to deal with your food addiction. You will be able to eat more than 4ozs. This is more mental than physical and I wish they required therapy before surgery. Also be aware that your hormones are all out of whack right now and things look worse than they are. It's very unlikely you would have been able to lose on your own and keep the weight off. You've lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks. That would not be possible for me without surgery. It would take me months and I would get do frustrated that I'd give up. Also - I'd have to starve myself to get there and that's not sustainable. Hang in there!

I will definitely try Beans, I feel like dairy is so high in calories in general. I guess I'm so worried about not losing that I don't want to eat to many calories. The beans with a bit of cheese and sour cream sound amazing though! Doing that tomorrow for sure! Thank you! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

My suggestion would be to increase calories with more Protein, good fats and carbs and see what happens. Although, I don't think your loss is very slow for your starting weight.

Try fluids other than Water if you haven't already. You need to focus on meeting Fluid goal of at least 64ozs or you'll quickly get dehydrated.

KristenLe reacted to blizair09 in First Day with NO PROTEIN SHAKES!
Today, Day 32 post-op, I got in all of my Protein with NO Protein SHAKES! I was able to add fish today (salmon specifically), so that did the trick. And I got to 900 calories for the first time. It took me 14 hours of eating and drinking to get everything in and account for the 30 minutes before/after eating "no water" periods. I got in 910 calories, 17 carbs, and 90 grams of protein.
I'm sure there will be days when I have to have Protein shakes for one reason or another, but I am going to Celebrate the fact that I am finally in a place where I won't have to rely on them every day!
    Onward!!

Helping someone justify potato chips at five weeks out, Swedish fish at five days out, alcohol at three days out, etc. is not **MY** idea of compassion or kindness. It doesn't help them and it especially doesn't help others reading, researching, absorbing.
People choose to be be offended or read comments as judgmental around these parts when their bad choices are not coddled, high fived and justified. From me, judgement is not at all intended 99% of the time (true story!) but clearly I am NEVER going to be a warm and fuzzy person so some choose to read it that way.
Everyone has a different interpretation of support and we will never all agree in that RIGHT definition. Some like it soft and coddling, others like it straight forward and to the point. It's the internet. Take what you need and ignore the rest.
