KristenLe reacted to JupiterinVirgo in Back Issues
I was just thinking about this because I started jogging and felt something kind of jerked out of place. I went to the chiropractor yesterday and my whole spine was out of alignment. I know it wasn't just from that, I did have some back problems before the weight-loss surgery. But with such a dramatic decrease in body mass in such a short period of time, definitely the body is working overtime, and some things sort of emerge from that. At 325 pounds my knees didn't hurt because I didn't walk very much. I started exercising after losing 124 pounds and found my knees were aching. I think some of this sort of just gets hidden underneath more severe issues-like in my case, I felt like I was almost too fat to move. I would break a sweat just going to the grocery store! Even with the occasional backache, I feel like I have my life back!

@@AudreyDarling Smoking is a very difficult addiction to quit - even for a grandchild! I never heard second hand smoke could cause a leak. I would question that and make sure you aren't in same room. Stress can cause harm too - so be sure to stay calm and do what you need to do for your health.

    1) my sleeve, of course. It does its job of providing restriction as long as I do my job of feeding it healthy, non slider foods.
    2) kitchen scale. For the first 3 years I weighed, measured and tracked everything. This kept me accountable and on track. Lost all my excess weight and was easily maintaining. Then one day I was in the kitchen, preparing lunch for myself and my husband and my food scale wasn't working. I was talking about having to run right out and get a new one and my husband casually commented that if I don't know what 3ounces of tuna fish and 2 ounces of veggies looks like by now I have a serious learning disability. I laughed...he was right. I had been eating right for so long I really did know how to do it, so since then, no measuring and no tracking. I just eat like I had retrained myself to eat.
    3) Water container. I never go anywhere without something to drink. It's kind of an obsession. I drink when I drive, in the grocery store, at home on the couch, when visiting friends, at the movies, while working, etc.
    4) activity. I live and work on a farm so my regular day to day chores are as good of a workout as any gym. I also walk as much as possible....Park the furthest away in the parking lots, take stairs instead if elevators, etc.
    5) But the number one key to my success is my therapist. I wouldn't be where I am without her. Saw her regularly for over 2 years then kind of stopped. Revisited with her after a bad accident left me in the hospital then wheelchair and Walker for several months. I no longer have regular appointments, but she is my go to when things get tough and I need a refresher course on handling stress and emotions.

I feel like I am a fairly even-tempered guy, but I was about to throw our scale off of the terrace by the end of the second week of my "three week stall." But, it finally passed, and I have been in a free-fall ever since. I bet that's going to happen for both of you before too long as well!
Now, if I can just get to my next milestone before the stall rears its ugly head again!! :-)
    Hang in there!

@@jiti28 My surgery is the same day. I started my liquid diet on the 4th. It's not as hard as I expected but it's not easy either. Talk to your nutritionist (or surgeon) about your diet and hypoglycemia - they may adjust your diet some. I am not hungry at all - actually haven't been drinking as many shakes as I'm allowed. The head hunger is very real though! I'm also emotional and foggy. I stopped caffeine - but only drank one coffee a day so that wasn't difficult. You can do this - you're not alone! Stay strong!!!

I was also really big on any kind of meat with sauce. Rotisserie chicken pulled and shredded with gravy, taco meat mixed with re-fried Beans and sour cream, chicken salad with extra mayo and mashed to mush, egg salad prepped the same, SPAM (gross, right? But it is soft!).
Think softer Protein that will digest a bit easier.
    And crustless quiche!!!!

Thank you. It really just depends on the day what I eat, although I am terrified of tuna after I choked on tuna salad week 3 or 4. Lol. I'm trying to find what my sleeve likes and it's a tall task. Did finally find I somewhat enjoy oh yeah one bars - so that's a plus. Even then I just get so full from them! I don't want to screw my metabolism forever.

KristenLe reacted to LipstickLady in 8 days out can I eat eggs and turkey sausage?
You were given no post op dietary instructions? :faint: My suggestion? Seek more help! I was on liquids at day 8, personally. There was no way I could have tolerated eggs, much less sausage. No amount of chewing would have helped.
I'm thrilled you feel great, but you can't possibly know how your incision line of your newly cut tummy looks. You may be healing well on the outside, but that is not at all indicative of how healed your staple line is.
Call your surgeon and get an appointment with his/her NP or NUT ASAP. If he/she is unreachable, call around for a 2nd opinion. Following a proper post op diet is crucial to good health.

As a nurse, I'm appalled at the thought of surgeons doing a major stomach surgery without giving a list of approved foods to eat at the very least until the first check-up appointment (which should be 1 week post, 2 weeks post at the very outside). The stomach has to be given a chance to let the incision heal, and the progression to a regular diet needs to allow the stomach to get used to processing food with the new configuration. I encourage everyone out there to demand, prior to surgery, at the very least a list of allowable foods for the first 2 weeks post, and a general roadmap of how the surgeon likes to see people move to a solid "regular" diet.
