  1. you have probably lost close to the same percentage of extra weight as her, as the heavier you are the more actual pounds you loose faster. but the percentage of extra is about the same. I am 2 1/2 months out and have lost almost 30% of my extra weight. that's pretty darn good. but it's only a little more than 30 pounds. I don't care though because it *is* coming off! I am focused on moving my body and eating good foods. learning a healthy relationship with food is the most important thing we can do during this first year.
  2. sometimes I pack a cheese stick, some baby spinach and some lunch meat, and roll the two around the cheese stick. or cottage cheese and a few strawberries, or sometime less than 1 ounce of almonds and a few dried cherries. or a Protein bar. I pack my cooler in the morning with two Snacks and lunch, and if I am the late person, with a small snack size dinner as well since I wouldn't be able to leave until clinic is done. Also pack my Vitamin Water zero and my refillable water container. I eat my Breakfast on the way in in the morning so some days I leave with all my food for the day. not my favorite thing, but it is better than skipping meals and trying to figure out "healthy-ish" choices from fast food or vending machines.
  3. If someone really wants privacy then just tell people you do not wish to discuss your personal life. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. I was given a steroid shot while asleep in surgery and experienced something similar. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I have eggs either scrambled, "fried" in a no stick pan or boiled. Or sometimes an egg salad Sammy And one piece of oatmeal toast. On days off work I may have something else but that's what works on work days. I've never been very functional without a good breakfast. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. if it's really bothering you then yes, call. do you have glue over the stitches? I did, and couldn't put anything on them until the glue came off on it's own. after that I use coconut oil as a lotion.
  7. you're looking great! isn't it crazy good the changes a few months make when you have the right tools to make it happen?
  8. amazing changes! I'm so proud of you getting out there and making it happen!
  9. YES YES YES. yes. exactly this.
  10. There has to come a time when we stop beating people up or dismissing obesity as lazy. anyone who has ever known me knows my parents worked the lazy out of me when I was a small child. Lazy is simply NOT allowed for me or anyone in my family. You still have to do the real work if you want this surgery to take the weight off and keep it off. I know that surgery is not the "easy way out" but it is a whole lot easier than beating my head against the wall before surgery trying to loose weight. For those of us who are open with others about the surgery it is important to say that we are loosing weight by eating right (and if you are doing so, working out) just like anyone else. the surgery helps to control the portions and keep carbs from knocking me down. it is interesting to me that I have several acquaintances who had surgery, lost a little and stopped. and when mutual friends found out I was having surgery said - you will have more success than (that person) because you have always been *trying* to live a healthy life and eat good foods. in other words, I was already primed to make the lifestyle changes and simply needed a hand up to get there. I pray for the acquaintances who are still dealing with food addiction issues. Food does not fight fair. Furthermore, as far as wanting to do it the "hard way" Obesity causes health problems that shorten our lives and rob us of life in the meantime. if it is easier, if there is an easy way to beat it, I am going to take it. I want to be around to enjoy grandchildren. this post seems rather disjointed to me, and I apologize. there are just so many different thoughts on this subject all clamoring to be expressed.
  11. if you can make lemonaid with stevia it would be similar in the end. do you have Stevia?
  12. do you mean pop?
  13. interesting. I find that it a little bit stuffs me and I stay with that full feeling a long time, it is not a slider food for me. but it will not be a regular snack either because of the stuffed feeling after just a little bit.
  14. maybe I am just ancient, but I don't think 38 is "too old" for anything. except maybe high school. you will make a lot of new friends in your life! but really, they may just be waiting for an invite, and it is GREAT that your hub is supportive. so many people do not have that. I went through some depression in the weeks following surgery (hormone dump) and you may be doing the same, getting out in the sunshine, even if it is by yourself does wonders.
  15. I love to SWIM, and it's almost summer! YAY! and I like Peggy Cappy's yoga videos. I also walk walk walk walk at dark thirty every morning. what interests you?
  16. I was always 5'2 1/2" but having all those kids took their toll on me, I'm 5'1 1/2 everytime they measure me now.
  17. I don't know what your plan allows. some groups are more specific in their diet. I was cleared to eat any foods at 4 weeks, but to focus on Protein, veg and whole fruits first. I have had popcorn a couple of times. I can manage about 1 cup before I am done, lol. but, that wee bit scratched the itch.
  18. wonderful! I have always liked Splenda, but I have been drinking the Vitamin Water zero and it has stevia, which I really like. I love lemonaid. I still find stevia too sweet for coffee though, I have been playing with blending it and using less.
  19. wonderful! that's my next goal and I am less than 10 pounds away! right behind ya~ feels good, doesn't it?
  20. you can train yourself to look for comfort in other ways. walking, yoga for stress relief, epsom salts baths, manicures and pedicures, crochet or knitting, kick boxing. but it will take time. food is really good at this job, and it takes a while to learn new habits. make the most of your post op time to find what works for you.
  21. Could you give us your recipe. I would love to try to make my own Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App this is a good place to start, but tweak the seasonings to your tastes. I usually use a top sirloin and cut thin slices from that - you will need a good knife. freezing the meat for a very short time (not until frozen, just stiff) can make slicing it easier. 1 1/2 to 2 pounds flank steak 2/3 cup Worcestershire sauce 2/3 cup soy sauce 1 tablespoon honey 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper 2 teaspoons onion powder 1 teaspoon liquid smoke 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes I use something more like these ingredients, but these cooking instructions http://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-homemade-beef-or-turkey-snack-recipes-from-the-kitchn-95962 obviously when I can get venison, it's almost FREE. and when I have to use beef I watch for sales.
  22. YES YES and this is why y'all are now my tribe.
  23. I was cold the other night and David's flannel shirt was on the couch (don't get me started on THAT issue) but I was able to put it on over my tee shirt and comfortably warm up in it. I haven't ever been able to steal his clothes in our relationship so that kind of made me feel like a giddy teenage girlfriend. He's lucky I didn't go find him and wake him up to share my enthusiasm.
