  1. communication is really important - especially as you two adjust to the changes in your life. my husband is not overweight. but there have been issues where he will put his bag of potato chips right between me and him. REALLY? I can not eat them, but that doesn't mean I don't want to. (he has gotten better about this) I don't expect him to change his eating because I have changed mine, but it is not too much to ask him to put the bag on the other side of him. she needs to know you don't expect her to change her eating if she is not ready to do so. but she also needs to know that if seeing you eat less makes her think about her own portions that you will support whatever measures she is ready to take to make changes in her own life.
  2. these readings can be crazy for a while during rapid weight loss. Risk is going to vary based on each person's medical and family history - I'd keep an eye on it, but I personally wouldn't worry about those numbers. I worry more about inflammation than cholesterol, myself. have you spoke with the doctor yet, if so what do they want to do?
  3. symptoms, do you mean diabetes?
  4. This may fit the bill but I am in need of a recommendation for a book based on a fairy tale for my 2016 reading challenge. Does anyone have any ideas off the top of your head? The Goose Girl, maybe?
  5. congrats to both of you for making it to surgery! please let us know how you are doing afterwards................
  6. if you are blacking out, then I guess I would rethink drinking in Italy. Blacking out in public is a very dangerous situation for you! if it were me, at this point the carbonation might be a better choice than the alcohol. if you feel you can not stop drinking please get help. some people drink without issue after surgery, but many people have problems. very common. one thing is a diluted juice (apple) can look like alcohol in a glass over ice, or a nice diet cran grape juice can look like wine and you can feel you fit in with the crowd but not feel like you are putting yourself at risk. I am 4 months out from surgery. I love wine and whiskey both - but have no plans to drink at all until maintenance and then I will be trying things out at home, with the husband where I know I am safe.
  7. oh then - you must feel his health is good and weight is good and all that? why does he speak occasionally of wanting it?
  8. @ isn't it crazy how these things change? I am a petite woman, so I have to pull my seat almost all the way forward. and I used to look 8 months pregnant, so the belly rubbed for sure. 4 months post op? there is all kinds of crazy room between me and the steering wheel. makes me pretty happy!
  9. when I was in my preop stage I was ready to have my surgery right now. lets get going. once I made my mind to do it I wanted it done. and then during all those hoops they found a medical issue, and I needed to deal with that first. It delayed my surgery about a year, but during that time I educated myself and found when surgery finally was ready to happen, I was better prepared. I don't know what will be your best option, but I know those hoops are there for a reason, and while it can drive you mad to go through the process it can also be a very good thing in the long run. and yes, regarding the money, you are worth it if that ends up being *your* best option! in any case, keep us updated on your process.
  10. ha! I am glad to hear my marriage is not the only one with these issues! my husband doesn't have a recliner, but he does have a LOT of stuff that doesn't go. stuff that I hate. and he has made it clear he is keeping his stuff (Sigh. as I guess he should.......) and so he has this area where he can do anything he wants decor wise. and I have an area where I can do whatever I want decor wise, (funny thing is they are both in the den, on opposing ends) and the rest of the house we compromise on. well. it keeps us from arguing about it most of the time! it is important for us to make sure our home is a haven from this crazy world for everyone in our household as best we can.
  11. @@DRene YES. my weight can vary by 5-6 pounds depending on constipation or hormones. it is Water. I have to remind myself that the goal here is loosing FAT, and to disregard the water weight but it can be annoying. sometimes if it is really bothering me I enter my workouts into mapmywalk and my food and see that I am clearly not gaining fat and then I feel better.
  12. oh good- I am glad you're at the doctor's office. I am just now seeing this, but please let us know what they tell you.
  13. it's a hard time when you are ready to make the change and it is still a week away! hang in there. what I did was prepare meals ahead for my family to warm up, so I wouldn't need to cook in the first couple of weeks and made sure I had a couple of Protein powders on hand and some Soup that was allowed. but I didn't stock up on things. knowing what I know now I would have bought some Vitamin Water zero, but I didn't know about it then. I had one container of ocean spray diet cran grape, which I enjoyed over ice. I am looking forward to seeing your progress!
  14. @@DaisyAmy that is GREAT!. ha. I have to go bra shopping too, but maybe next weekend. gonna hit up TJ Maxx for some cheap good bras since I am in the middle of loosing.
  15. you'll sleep tomorrow, so don't worry if you can't sleep. take a bath, clean out the silverware drawer, anything to take your mind off it. even binge watch something on netflix. please let us know how you are doing!
  16. and drinking the pickle juice is one of my very favorite delights.
  17. if they offer the nerve block I would say take it. it's a pain when they do it but it is WORTH it
  18. oh.......... pickles. mmmmmm thats what I have when I need something a little salty, but I am on regular foods now.
  19. no - it was not. I did have a nerve block in my abdomen and not all hospitals do this. it is a very long lasting pain relief and cut down on the narcs I needed. which is nice. but my c section and my hysterectomy were a lot more painful as far as abdominal surgeries, and this was not bad at all. the hardest part for me was the liquid diet. are you also having anything like a hernia repair? I just straight up had the VSG, no hernia.
  20. your emotions are completely normal! I would go to the gallery and look at before and after pictures of people at least a year out. because you are going to be amazed at the changes in your life! the first few weeks can be a real rollercoaster. just know that that is also normal, and that it will pass. please let us know how your surgery goes!
  21. I think those types of pains are pretty normal at that point but if it still hurts or you are concerned please call your team. they will ask you more detailed questions and let you know if they think you need to be seen
  22. it's normal, but I'll tell you what - skin can surprise you and healthy is sexy. When the time is right, you'll meet the right person, and they will not care about your imperfections - they will see the things about you that are attractive. this WLS is a wild ride!
  23. I have very heated discussions with mine, and I agree - but I do think people should consult their program and if they choose to not go with everything it says, to do so mindfully.
  24. Yup, that's it right there!
  25. how are you doing with liquids? I find if I get slightly dehydrated I have more of an aversion to food. I just eat what I am supposed to anyway.
