  1. you're probably not doing anything wrong - it's common. just keep following the program and your body will sort it's self out as it heals. how much are you able to eat/drink? how much Protein can you handle per day?
  2. what are the "wrong foods" you prefer? if it is sugar then I think the RNY may have an edge - but the truth is I don't really crave carbs right now and I had the sleeve. now my understanding is that that will come back, so it is important to use the time after surgery to establish better habits.
  3. Hey that is crazy.... crazy GOOD! congrats!
  4. at the very least it's straight up carbs and calories. probably slow you down a good bit.
  5. I believe there are some people here who do not eat meat - and I hope you can find the support you need. under the general support section, food and nutrition there is a forum for vegan and vegetarian - perhaps you might find something helpful there.
  6. I have a food scale. you put your dish on it and hit tare so it won't count the dish, and then add the food. I don't really get full. I just eat what I am supposed to and I don't feel hungry so I stop. earlier when I could only eat a few spoonfulls I just got to a point where I didn't want any more. sometimes my nose would drip.
  7. first off congrats! and welcome to the club. it sounds like you are doing well with everything. I hope you will find this helpful for your pcos issues.
  8. when I have them I have 3-4 ounces. in the beginning I could only eat a spoonful or three.
  9. yes! I think the smaller sizes are often not worn because people buy them hoping they will fit, trying to loose weight. when they don't loose weight they donate. or if they are lightly worn it's due to weight gain. Glad you found some lovely things!
  10. I was cleared for all foods, including raw veg at one month. my meals are supposed to be 75% Protein, but I am supposed to have veg, and even some fruit and limited carbs daily. I have not had any problems, and I am loosing weight.
  11. plans all vary. my plan did not allow eggs, however it did allow fish on soft foods. I asked to try eggs instead and they told me I could cautiously go ahead.
  12. lots of people do, although it's best if you wait until you are in the maintenance part, after weight loss and make sure your bloodwork is all good. I am excited for you! and look forward to seeing your progress.
  13. I would just frame it as a surgery (and weight loss) you need to do to be healthier and be around for their children's children. Your daughter needs to know that your medical condition is not like her situation and that she is doing exactly what she should (by being active) that she is beautiful and perfect. then answer any questions they have about the surgery or post op period. I'd also have them help you prepare food to freeze so they can eat it in your immediate post op period. You won't feel like cooking when you're on liquids and feeling like they are helping you be successful will probably be the best gift you can give them. wishing you all the best. my kids were 15, 17, 20, 23, 24, 26 and 27 when I had surgery. some of them didn't want me to have it, but they all appreciate how much more healthy I am now. only the younger 3 were still in the home.
  14. I work in a hospital system, and I knew I wanted to use the weight loss center associated with that hospital, so I can read my own labs and tests and such. I went to a consult - there are 3 surgeons there - and the one at the consult I liked. they all 3 had a good reputations. so, I just went with it. I could have met with the other 2 first if I had been not already happy.
  15. I am actually happy to see your progress....I started out about the same weight at you for my surgery weight. I happy to see you are already under 200 pounds. I am hoping to reach that milestone by the end of the year. How much do you exercise? Do you track what you eat? I walk almost every day. usually about 3 miles - but of course in the first month it was not that much. Once cleared for more I went back to doing my bedtime yoga routine, and a couple of times a week I use my pilates reformer for a work out. I am a loosey goosey tracker. I weigh my morning snack which is almonds, dried cherries and a few chocolate chips. because it is easy to overdo nuts. I get them ready on Sunday - I have this snack on work days. other than that I add my Protein and fluids in my head until I get to my minimum and then I stop adding the rest of the day. I just overall keep carbs low, but I don't try to eliminate all carbs. I usually do cook most of my Proteins on Sunday and measure them out on these little dishes that travel to work easily and then my lunches for the week are prepared, with extra protein in the fridge that is flexible to use for various dinners. about 3 times a month I weigh/measure everything and put it in my mapmywalk tracker to make sure my portion sizes haven't grown. sometimes it feels like the changes are too fast for my brain. sometimes it feels painfully slow. just trying to hang on and enjoy the ride. I look forward to seeing your progress! getting below 200 was a HUGE milestone for me.
  16. I have had no serious issues. some mild constipation, some depression early on. that's it. I haven't had trouble eating or drinking or exercising. weight is coming off slow and steady.
  17. delighted that you are seeing such good progress! looking forward to hearing how you do going forward
  18. great! moving right along then!
  19. glad to see you're on the other side of it! and yes, if you are able to walk before surgery I do think it helps with the recovery a LOT.
  20. I track my food and workouts and try to keep my deficit between 500-800 calories. enough to make a serious weekly deficit, but not enough to make my body think I am starving. on my program they want men to get between 70-80 g of Protein. and I haven't been given carb guidelines except to have my meals be 75% protein. I don't avoid all carbs, (example I have a slice of oat bread toast in the morning with my egg) but I do keep them pretty low. but I am only 4 months out from surgery - any pause I've had in weight loss has been less than 2 weeks and I know you may be looking for input from those further out than I am. I am looking forward to the party that I know will ensue when you finally break this stall!
  21. whole foods has a whey Protein shake mix that has stevia. chocolate and vanilla. so pop in there if you have one close by. I think it was the 365 brand.
  22. so far we are happier than ever. which is good but happy or not we are just as committed to each other. we have weathered far rougher storms than this and decided a long time ago that we would not walk away from each other. which is not to say that there are not unique stresses. we just decided we would just have to be very open in our communication with each other. and, we both expect to change as we go through life, so it is important to us to allow each other to grow and work to have a happy marriage as we move through life. because we'd rather be happy than not, and we'd rather go through life together than apart. our next anniversary is #20. I'd hate to ever have to get used to someone else! so I hope we have a lot of years left, and I hope I go first when the time comes.
  23. 1. I know you do not look like a pig. 2. there are those who would want you even if you did (you don't) 3. you are worth it. you are worth loving. I promise. if you can't say it to yourself yet, look in the mirror and say my friend Christina says I am worth loving and she is never wrong. that being said there is not one aspect of my life that is not improved with WLS, and I wish you the same success.
  24. welcome to the club! I look forward to seeing your progress.
