Got a surgery date: what does that mean?
call and ask the office!

I need help!
in the hospital all I wanted was my phone, charger, and laptop. toothbrush. I packed other things, but this was probably all I used. I wore the clothes home that I had worn in since I had not had them on very long. I wore the hospital gown in the hospital due to the IV and just walked in my room. I slept a lot. after surgery I wanted sugar free popsicles, ocean spray diet cran grape - and then went on my Protein shakes as well. my husband was off work the day of my surgery, the day I came home and then his weekend before going back to work. I didn't really need help with anything but it was a comfort to know someone was there just in case. I tried to walk a little bit every hour I was awake and rested when I needed to rest. I am looking forward to seeing your progress!

Newbie: sleeved on June 20th! So much fear already!
yup. most people feel that way. you've just been through major surgery. you probably had an IV, they may have given you steroids or an antibiotic. your only job in the first month is to heal from surgery - if weight loss comes along in those early days that is fine, but it may not and is not a reflection on your ultimate success.

Coffee
I can't remember - it's all a fog before coffee............... probably a month? at first it kinda gave me a sour stomach, and I only had a little bit and then waited a while to have more. now I have a cup of coffee with stevia and fairlife milk/half and half blend most days when I am at work. I do love coffee......... mmmmmmmm coffee...... first the coffee, and then I do the things........

Low fat
yes! I agree. I try to avoid chemical sugar substitutes and fat free things that are not meant to be fat free. While there are some products I like better in a reduced fat dairy version, I do not avoid or over consume healthy fats either.

Scale recommendations - I don't trust mine
I have this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KXZ808/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and I like it very much. seems to be pretty spot on and the numbers are big enough to read without my glasses.

Benefiber
I use two spoons of it daily in my morning drink. I also use a stool softener and try to eat Beans regularly. when needed I take an MOM caplet or two. it has helped a lot. I don't know if I am more regular, but I am not struggling when it is time to go now.

Drinking
probably sometime in week 2. hard to remember now. but I remember how relieved I was!

Any home daycare providers out there?
if you don't have any complications - and if they can climb up so you are not lifting - then you will be tired but ok. look, it's not ideal. but I had a c section 21 years ago with 4 of my own kids at home and a nephew living with me. the nephew and oldest son were 8. so 5 kids and a newborn and I just had to take care to rest when I could, drink and eat and again, rest as much as I could. I survived - we all did and you can get through this too - just plan to be kind to yourself rest and get your Protein.

My therapist disapproves sleeve?
many professionals are biased against WLS. I would let her know that this is something you are planning to do and ask her if she is uncomfortable working with you to refer you to someone else.

What did I sign up for?
I am not a happy camper if I am not pooping often enough either, and that can cause you to feel nauseated. Please take something to get things moving, talk to your team about a strategy to keep things moving and I think you'll feel much better after you do. as for the way you are eating now being forever, it won't. but then there will be other challenges, such as keeping to a healthy diet when you can tolerate other foods.

1 month today post sleeve opinion reg dinner
I don't know what your diet progression plan is - or what you have eaten and tolerated - but I wouldn't start off with ground beef.

Post-Sleeve Working Out
your surgeon will know exactly when to release you, and I suppose this will depend somewhat on what all they did. I had no hernia repair or anything and I was released to full activity at 4 weeks. until then I only did (non pushing it) walking.

stalled for 5 months....how to prevent bad habits?
I believe you also need to find another way to soothe yourself. I am a stress cleaner, and also I like epsom salts baths, and gentle yoga. when I eat things at inappropriate times just because I like the way food tastes I either spritz my mouth with a mouth spray or brush my teeth. really makes food not taste good for a while.

Exercising
I would think 600-800 calories would be way to low to be working out.
-
Exercising
ok. but how many calories did you eat at home and how many when you were on vacation and how many calories do you burn working out at home and how many on vacation. you have to know what your calorie deficit looks like to figure out answers. eating Protein bars all the time doesn't sound like a vacation to me! yikes. I hope you get more variety in your food at home.
-
Exercising
when you are home vs vacation, what does your daily caloric deficit look like?

Mentor
how can we help? what kinds of issues do you need to talk about?

Feeling full
it took about 3 months for my stomach area to heal enough to really start feeling completely there. so full for me before then meant a drippy nose, a hiccup or I am going to die feeling. I rarely ate enough to experience those. I measured my food, ate it and was done (or until one of the above symptoms manifested) until the next time. now I eat slowly and feel satisfied with the food I eat but do not eat until I feel "full" because I could eat quite a bit more than I need at this point.

Mental energy and body temperature after VSG?
working out that much I wonder if your calories were too low? did you do the whole food tracking, work out tracking thing - what did your calorie deficit look like?

How is yoga useful in weight loss?
any time you are moving your body you are burning calories and working to change your metabolism. yoga works your core and will add stability to any other movement and form of exercise you choose to perform. it's my personal feeling that the gentle slow stretching helps me avoid injury in other activities. how effective it can be will depend upon how challenging, length and frequency of your work outs but it is possible to get a pretty serious workout with yoga or pilates. edited to add* please find a workout routine or combos that you love as the best way to loose weight is to keep moving, and the best way to keep moving is to do things you enjoy

Having Doubts
I was convinced that my obesity would end my life prematurely. do you feel like you can live a normal healthy life span at the weight you currently are? because honestly, most people who loose weight gain it back and more. this is a powerful tool to give you an edge with those odds. the thing I hear consistently is that people only wish they had done this sooner. You are at a fork in the road, and need to decide which way you want your life to go.

Liquid won't stay down
you're welcome. it's not going to bother anyone - I just want you to get the help you need.

Liquid won't stay down
I just wanted you to know this is posted in the sleeve forum and I think you might get better answers in the band forum. but for what it's worth I think you need to let your team know what's going on! and please let us know how you are doing.

Will I ever enjoy food I like again
at 4 months out I am able to pretty much eat anything - I have a small burger without the bun often. tonight we are having nachos - I am going to have the seasoned meat, lettuce and some cheese and sour cream on top. so yes! life looks a lot more normal 4 months out. small portions, but real food that I enjoy.
