@@Tootsietoes I'm am confused. Did you have Bariatric surgery? Was it sleeve? I am asking about the sleeve because that is the only one I plan on having and I decided to do it because I have osteoarthritis and my knees are killing me to the point that all I do is go to work sit down go home sit down. I eat junk food because I'm bored and lonely. Now struggling to get this weight off and find an exercise I can do without huffing and puffing within the first 3 minutes of was difficult and even more depressing. I had to admit to myself I had no will to do right. It was just so easy to thoughtlessly stick Cookies and pizza into my mouth. So with that said I looked into the sleeve surgery and all the risk that come with it not to mention the risk of increasing my new belly by going back to the foods that doubled my weight in the first place.
So if my medical care team advises not to eat foods that could do damage then I am not trying to see what they taste like anymore. I'm more interested in finding new foods that would nourish me instead of comfort me. I have a friend who complained about being fat and not looking good. She had the sleeve surgery and she kept trying to go to fast food Windows ordering cheese burgers. And then she had to go to the bathroom to vomit. I'm don't want to do that crap.

I went to my surgeons office every two weeks after surgery until 6 weeks out.. then we go every 3 months. Until 1 year out. I have also visited my PCP twice since my surgery (3 months ago)for follow up. Your PCP knows you best and should be able to assist you with most things, but I also believe Bariatric offices around you should be willing to see you. It's no different than someone moving after surgery..

I like Oh Yeah One bars.
I think Protein bars are fake trash food though. I have them in my purse strictly for emergencies. They are overly processed and basically fake food.< /p>
    Eat them with caution.
Also early on they provided restriction. Now they are just basically sliders. No restriction, no satiety.

    Welcome!
    This is quite an adventure.
I am looking forward to a time when you can say "I love my body!"
In the meantime, be gentle with yourself and enjoy the ride.
Just an aside, a few things I have incorporated into my WLS journey that have helped me are:
Swimming. Swimming has always been my exercise of choice. I make it a priority.
Massages. I get periodic massages to Celebrate milestones and just because.
Mani/Pedis. I get my nails done professionally more often than I used to.
Creativity. I try to practice creativity every day --- writing, photography, art classes, etc.
Sleep/rest. It is very clear to me now how important enough restful sleep is for me.
I look forward to hearing about your journey. Welcome aboard!

I think I need to realize that a lot of you been working on this for months, I literally woke up one day called the doctor and scheduled a appointment last month.... I've wanted to do this for years but held off because of my parents and finally at the age of 35! I decided I have to do what's best for me. Now I'm sitting here like a groupie looking at before and after pics to see results.
P.S. Take some pictures! Don't wait until you lose the weight take those good BYE Fat pics!!! I know I did

I track total grams of carb and grams of Fiber separately. My Fiber grams are not so high that it's be worth my time to enter all my own data in the tracking system I use. So much easier to go with what's in the database when it applies to my food choices.

My dad would be against surgery as well. My mom died 8 months after gastric bypass. It wasn't known that she had lung cancer and her body couldn't fight the cancer and heal from surgery at the same time. The surgery didn't cause her to die but my dad is VERY much against it. I simply told my dad that I over produced ghrelin the hormone that causes hunger (true) and that I was having surgery to remove a stomach ulcer and reduce the ghrelin (also true). He is happy that I've been losing weight since the surgery.

I don't care much for turkey, so I will take a teeny piece, drown it in gravy and then ignore it.

I will have a few bites of ham, a spoonful of dressing my mom makes, a half of a deviled egg, and a wee bit of corn pudding. I usually push the food around on my plate mercilessly as no one in my extended family knows I've had surgery.

I usually go up for seconds which is just adding a bit more gravy to whatever I've pushed around and no one is to the wiser.
I've always skipped dessert so no one will even notice that.

plane224 reacted to AvaFern in What will you have for Christmas dinner?
My surgery was 38 months ago. I will have about 3-4 pieces of ham (as in 3-4 bites that I cut into pieces so maybe like a half a piece of normal-person ham), 3-4 bites of turkey, which is pushing it a bit on dense Protein but dinner takes forever so plenty of time to eat slowly, and then a bite or two of whatever else looks good, which is usually beets, maybe one of those baby onions (pearl onions?) covered in that cream stuff (which is kind of making me gag right this second but I'm usually good for one on holidays), a few bites of stuffing, which helps to make the turkey a little moister and less likely to be barfed, and I'll probably put a bit of gravy on the turkey and stuffing and a little orange sauce on the ham, mostly because it makes them moist and easier to not get sick.
For dessert I will have a cookie or two.
I will then sit there while my mom and my aunt make disapproving looks, lol. If I plan it correctly, I can eat slowly enough and let the creamy-oily-sugary things get cold enough that they don't make me barf.
So it sounds like my Christmas is horrible, but I will be wearing a size 0 dress (I bought it already, haha) and I will be more than content to have enjoyed that amount of food with no real desire to have anything else. It sounds weird, even to me this far out, but I don't have any real interest in eating any more than that. My birthday was this week and I debated having a cupcake or a cookie to Celebrate...in the end, I had neither. Not only wouldn't it really have been very good and it probably would have made me feel awful, but the effort to drive 5 minutes and go get myself a cupcake or something sugary to Celebrate, compared to just eating a granola bar at home, wasn't worth it. It may not seem like it, but having no real urge to celebrate your birthday with food is kind of an awesome thing.

plane224 reacted to LipstickLady in It absolutely makes NO freaking sense to me... **MY RANT**
I'm not real good at looking away if you haven't noticed. Why? Because there are SO MANY LURKERS in this forum who are reading, reading, reading and if no one speaks up, they are absorbing bad advice and patronizing warm fuzzy validations.
Am I wasting my time? Absolutely. Am I ever going to win any popularity contests for having strong opinions and a big mouth? Probably not. (And I really don't care. I have real life friends who live outside my computer.) Did I get my fair share of finger shakes', eye rolls and kicks in the pants as I went through this process? YUP. Did I learn from those "meanies"? Without a doubt (and DANG I miss them!!) Was I always happy about it? NO FREAKING WAY. But I listened and ultimately, I earned back my health and a MUCH smaller number on the scale.
Giving myself permission to eat what I wanted against the advice of WWs and Jenny Craig and Atkins and South Beach and my doctor got me to 264 pounds. Clearly I **didn't** know my body best and caving to the head hunger and cravings did some permanent damage to my body that can never be undone.
So if even one person can be reached and jolted back into their new reality of WLS, FABULOUS. That's why I waste my time.

    You put in the time.
    You put in the money.

You go to all the appointments and you jump through all the hoops.
    You do the pre-op diet.

    You have the surgery.

You cared enough about yourself to make the commitment to WLS and you physically and permanently alter your body...

And then you get mad because someone tells you not to eat the d@mn taco? Not to drink alcohol or soda 2.783 days after surgery? To put down the freaking pizza'? To stop eating bread/rice/pasta/bananas/hoagies/20oz steaks TEMPORARILY while your body heals and you get to your goal weight? To actually stick to YOUR doctor's plan?

Even better, you get mad when they only do so AFTER you ASKED????

    SERIOUSLY PEOPLE?

Yes. I'd guess most of us have head hunger and cravings. I'd guess most of us had a nibble or sip of something off plan. I've no doubt that most of us were not 100% compliant 100% of the time. But I'd also guess that those of us who have done this, gotten to goal weight and stayed there have been compliant the majority of the time. I'd also guess that many of us who have been successful would appreciate a swift kick in the rear if/when we ask a question I bet we already know the answer to.

It's not rocket science and this isn't Romper Room. Make good choices, stick to your doctor's orders or don't, but don't get mad if you fail to get the results you want when you refuse to do what you are supposed to do. And don't get mad when someone tells you that what you are putting in your mouth isn't the best idea in the world even though you want it right now.

Value yourself more than that. Seriously.
