2008 - The year the Whale died
I wasn't here for the start of the thread, but want to say well done. It is a hard road ahead, I've only just started. You've done fantastically and I'm sure you will meet your new goal.

What no-one told me
yeah, that's what I've been doing Leanne, just bloody annoying.

What no-one told me
Nope, these were given to me to help stop inflammation in the wound sites. I'd never heard of them either, but there you go.

What no-one told me
That when I went home I'd have to use suppositories on myself  C'mon, I had enough trouble doing stuff "there" before, now you want me to do this with pain????

Great News from the Big Fella
Damo, that's awesome. I only lost 2.4 in the whole two weeks, but then I was norty and ate things I shouldn't have. It got to the point where I was almost passing out at work, so I did it for the energy. Op was done and now I wouldn't change it for anything. Did what I needed to do at the time, I can live with that. Hey Bopper, I was done Wednesday with Dr Copp at greenslopes. You'll be fine. I'm still sore but I still think it was worth it.

Is it really worth it?? Please helpp
My op was 2 days ago, so I'm still in the recovery from op stage. Going into the op I had no concerns, no worries at all. My only concern was being on the 3rd floor because I have a fear of heights, but I had no doubts about the op itself. What I wasn't prepared for was not being able to get decent sleep. the drip machine kept beeping all night, just when I'd get into a good sleep and wake me up. Then there were the checks from nurses every hour. The cuts themselves caused no pain, just soreness, but the pain from gas was worse for me than most people describe. I had it in both shoulder blades, my spine and the right shoulder up to the back of my head. On top of that I was hungry and still am. I've just been given the go ahead to start other liquids besides clear, so I feel better. When I finally got home from hospital I felt like crying. I wondered what I had done to myself because of the discomfort, but that mood only lasted 10 minutes. At the end of the day, its only temporary and it will improve. It has already. The pain has almost all gone and I even did house work today. Only you can decide if the time to recover from the operation is really worth it. But you are basically giving up a week or so to discomfort for a life time of health and fitness. For me, that is worth it. Much of the recovery is mind over matter. If you listen to all the negative stories out there then you are going to go into this with a negative head space and make the recovery that much harder for yourself. I wasn't expecting to feel mourning (which is what I think it was) for what I had done, but I do fully believe that all that emotional and psychological work before hand helped me to move through that to where I am feeling really positive right now.

Surgery Stories
I had mine done yesterday, only been back home a couple of hours. For me, the pain is in both shoulder blades, spine and top of right shoulder. The actual cuts themselves are just sore. Otherwise all went well. Didn't lose as much on the Optifast as the surgeon would have liked, but I put that down a bit to the pcos and a lot to my eating other foods (including bread!) because my job was so physically demanding, I almost passed out a few times. I'm now waiting for day 5, when all the pain stops and it all settles down, then I will enjoy myself

Is today the big day, Sunwyse?
Hi fanny, yes it was, it was all over with by the time you posted lol. Am back home now, quite sore. The incisions themselves don't hurt a big, just sore, but the shoulder tip pain is in my right shoulder, left and right shoulder blades and my spine. And I'm hungry!!!! *sigh* Only 2 weeks more to go. Thanks so much for the well wishes.

So - where are all the Smashing Pumpkins from??
Ara, what do you mean your body can't handle 42 grams of protein at a time? Most modest main meals have around 90 grams.

Who are you telling?
My partner has started the "you won't be able to have that after" route. Sure I won't be able to have the fizzies, but I will be able to have ice cream sheesh. Not straight away and not much, but I will be able to have it occasionally. I just don't want him to start monitoring everything I eat.

Cost of getting LB put in?

Great News from the Big Fella
Thanks Damo, Sam. Very excited about op, a little nervous about what floor I'll be on cause of my fear of heights. I have no doubt you'd done really well Damo!

Statistics Update
Height: 151cm Weight: 107.5 kilo Dress size: 22-24 AU Bust: 132cm Now: 133 Arm: 38.5cm Now: 37 Waist: 122cm Now: 116 Hips: 137.5cm Now: 136.5 Thighs: 71.5cm Now: 68.5 Can't tell you about my weight. My scale tells me I'm the same weight, no matter how much I go up or down. My clothes are now a comfortable size 22, with some room to spare. As for my bust size going up, yep. Its a strange thing. Whenever I do a "diet", I lose cms everywhere except the bust. For a week or two I put it on up there, and then I lose it. Never been able to work this out, because they look smaller in clothes and bras fit me better. Oh well. This is the update after 11 days on optifast.

Damo, how goes the diet? I know I'm fed up. I've actually not stuck to it completely the whole time, I just couldn't go on much longer without something more substantial. Working in childcare is working in a manual labour job as far as I'm concerned. But I have noticed changes, so I know I'm on the right track. Hope its all going well, mate.

For those who have PCOS
Depends what you are looking for. Could you lose the weight on your own? yes. Could you keep it off on your own? probably not, or you would have done that by now, right? This is the thing, most people seem to think we are fat because we are lazy, stupid and don't bother to eat right. Some combination of those 3 anyway. The truth of the matter is, we can lose weight and we do, all the time. We just can't seem to keep it off when we do. Why?? No-one knows. Lots of theories on that one, but no one knows for sure. At the end of the day, I'm the one who has to live inside this fat suit, not the doctor. Its up to me what I want to do with it. Same goes for you. Oh and what is he saying - that by having a lapband put in you've some how sold out?? Sorry, your doctor needs to do more research. Latest studies are showing that dieting doesn't work.

Cost of getting LB put in?
$13,000 is good. Most prices I've seen quoted are around the $16,000 mark.

10/29/08 Surgery Date
I'm on that day as well, though being in Australia, I'm probably going to be the day "before" you

1 Year 28kg gone & 8 weeks Pregnant
Hey aquasky, that is awesome news! Well done on the weight loss and congratulations on the baby. Hoping I'll be able to join you this time next year.

and so it goes
Thank you for the best wishes, but the advice to not look out the window doesn't help. I've heard this so many times its not even funny anymore. What annoys me, is people don't realise how much of a real phobia it is. It restricts my life. "Don't look out the window" does stop the mind knowing its upstairs!! Doesn't stop the fear and also comes across as though my phobia is being treated with contempt. Its a blithe comment that people throw out when they can't be bothered to stop and consider the other person's situation. Does it annoy me? You bet.

Great News from the Big Fella
How's day 5 going Damo? Like you, I'll be doing 4 weeks, but 2 of those are after the op for me. I don't actually mind the taste that much at all, so was given the go ahead to use it for nutrition during my liquid phase. Really looking forward to some mashed pumpkin though :smile2: lol

I am nervous!
You won't damage the band. Might damage your stomach though. Maybe you should schedule an appointment with the psychologist. This might have simply been you being 'fed up' (pardon the pun) with not having 'real' food, or it might have been a sabotage tactic. If its the later, then you need to look at why you did it now, before it becomes a habit. Otherwise, just contact your surgeon and maybe get in for a visit to check on things.

Brisbane Girl
Maybe take a book? Don't know what you are like as a sleeper, but I'm going through an interrupted sleep/insomnia right now, so I'll be taking a book just in case. Totally agree with Ange05. Make sure you have every conceivable thing you'll need before the op. I've done my shopping, its all waiting in the kitchen. Got myself some Protein powder today, so I can add it to Clear liquids and such, to make sure I get enough. Now its just count down time for me. Good luck.

Time between Consult and Sugery
As soon as they have an opening available. There's no waiting period in Australia, provided you've done the 12 months with health insurance if you aren't paying it all yourself. Some people have waited 3 weeks, others a bit longer. Just make sure you can get the psych and dietitian visit in though.
