March 7th
Saturday was no fun at all. pains from the gas and a sore throat from the tube, and damn breathing exercises- breathing exercises with a sore throat equals coughing which hurt like hell. i gave up on the breathing execises, but throat seemed so dry and i gave myself a panic attack, felt like i couldnt breath, the nurse came in, gave me a pain pill and held my hand, then i just broke down, like a baby, i just wanted to go home. after i had a nap i was fine. back home today, i see pizza and left over jack in the box (everyone's habits need to change). the staff from the kitchen at the hospital gave us the recipe for the chicken broth, it was really good! so i came home and made that. everyone else is having a delicious chicken Soup and i am having delicious broth. work is going to be a bit challenging, since i dont want anyone to know. i am going to take my broth in a cup and warm up and when its time for lunch, i'm still going to order like usual than stir it around on my plate. thats the plan so far anyway. eventually i can let the chef in on my secret somewhat and he'll make my lunch. Hope everyone else is doing well! For those i didnt get to drop in on saturday, i hope you understand after reading the above.

March 7th
the sleeping pill helped until about 2 when i woke up and couldnt get back to sleep right away. i felt drowzy as hell, but couldnt sleep. but i guess finally my body gave up and i heard the alarm. now, i'm still drowzy (thats why cant take sleeping pills in the real world) but for what i need to do today, that should be ok. I'm not a morning person either way, but i do miss my coffee, i miss even the smell. but we arent suppossed to have anything. i need to get dressed and pack everything back in my bag for our little trek back to the hospital. i just heard they have wireless internet there. yay!

March 7th
I had all my day before stuff done and now im so excited! didn't think i would need that sleeping pill the doc gave me, but now i'm starting to think i will be too excited to sleep. funny thing happened while getting tests done at the hospital though. the nurse (male) first had me put the gown on w/ the opening in the front, i got to leave my pants on, then for the next test he said to put the gown on w/ the opening in the back. so i started to, and he was like, "no, wait til i leave the room" it was hilarious. well i'm going to go have my "last supper" lol then sushi of course before going to bed!

Do you tell your kids about having LBS?
My daughter is 12, and she is one of only 2 people who know. I am usually open with my kids (my boys are both grown and out of the house, i've told them i'm having a procedure, but not exactly what it is), and with her being at the age she is and all the publicity about body image, i didn't tell her i was having a "weight loss" procedure, but an operation that will help prevent me from suffering from the same things my grandparents and my mother suffer from because they are overweight. when my kids were young, and i had day care in my home, no one was allowed to use the words "fat" or "skinny" as they are both negative words. my kids described people as big, or in shape. my daughter who has her dad's great metabolism and looks like a bean pole, recently came home crying because the girl down the street told her she was too skinny and her legs were too long. so, i have the media telling her she should be thin and others telling her she's too thin, its very hard, and i know its only going to get worse as she gets older. i told her as long as her legs reach from her butt to her feet, they are just the right length. i want to feel more confident with myself for her as well as for myself, since she is nearing those wonderfully fun teen years. i think it will be a positive thing for us, for me to eat better and be healthier, which is what i've always tried to instill in them, healthy, not "skinny"

Nina has been great, emailing almost every day when i first was checking into it. and when i called, right away she knew who i was, how is that for personable. when i call to make a regular dr appt in the states, i have to give all my info, ss#, birthdate, etc. its like a credit check, but nina knew who i was, i like that. i'm so excited to begin my new life!

Help Me Make a List
I like this one. Hubby has spoken of quitting, maybe it would help if we were both working on an addiction, mine of food, his of cigarettes.
-
Help Me Make a List
I understand, this is something i will have to do too. Hubby is awesome, but usually when he runs to the store for smokes he picks me up a dove dark chocolate bar or something. As much as i love that, maybe picking me up something nonedible would be better. I am scheduled March 7. its not that we depend on them to "running our elbow", but they do things now that are sweet, but in the future, need to be adjusted just as we have to adjust to a new lifestyle. If i think of anything, i will let you know what to add to your list.

The money issue?
we got financing through one of the companies that the dr. works with. i hate to do it that way, because end up paying more in the long run. but with my bonuses throughout the year i am hoping to have it paid off in less than 1/2 the time that we originally signed for. our insurace wouldnt cover it, it was like i needed to be suffering from everything i'm trying to avoid before they would cover it.

To Tell or Not to Tell???
I'm not telling anyone, only my husband and daughter know. I had a coworker who was banded, she told everyone, shows them the port, the incision scars, etc. I'm just not that bold. plus after hearing all the negativity regarding her procedure, there is no way i would tell. this is my decision, for my life, i am somewhat a private person, so i dont want people to know. 15 years ago i worked out, got into bodybuilding and looked great, i was so proud of myself, it was the best i looked in all my life, but then i slipped, and i hated myself for not keeping it up. now for the past 8 years i have been obese, i cant stand to look in the mirror, i'm close to 40 and all my relatives have several health conditions that i am hoping to avoid. i want to be able to breath when i lay down, i don't want to be winded when i walk from my room to the kitchen.

Anyone gone off coffee?
Did anyone have caffienne withdraw while in the hospital. I have a triple shot vanilla latte every morning plus a couple of cups of regular coffee throughout the day and I am dreading a caffienne withdraw headache. Maybe i shouldnt since there will be pain meds for the procedure available. Did you go through withdraw?

For those with BMI 35-40?
when i told my daughter (granted she's only 12 and will probably have her father's metabolism and be thin her whole life) she laughed and asked why i didnt just get lipo (she couldnt think of the name, but described it). i told her that that is a quick fix and would probably not last. even a 12 yr old, and i've raised her in a home where i didnt allow my children to call anyone "fat" or "skinny", not to put anyone down due to thier size.
-
can u see it?
well, i guess i meant i've seen some who are now down to a very attractive 120 to 130 lbs, doesnt seem there would be much, if any, fat left to hide it. so i was curious if it can be seen. either way is not going to affect my decision, just something i was curious about. i know its a silly question.

Anyone familiar w/ Dr. Aceves?
This is the dr. i've been speaking with. His asst. Nina has been awesome, we've been emailing practically daily. But I havent seen anyone mention this dr. from Mexico.
-
can u see it?
:confused:maybe this is a silly question, but after you lose a significant amount is the port noticeable? i guess in pix i've seen i was curious if there is a bump or something. also, does it affect ab workouts, does it hurt or pull?(i know of course to wait to do this after it heals) i don't want to be skinny, i dont have that body to be skinny. but don't want to be huge anymore.
-
For those with BMI 35-40?
I am here looking for support also, only my husband knows about my intent to do this. my bmi is 36.6 and i've been disgusted with myself for so long, and its just getting worse now that i'm getting older. my mom is starting to have serious health issues due to her weight, as did both her parents. there are many who think that i wouldnt need this, but do i need to be to the point that its required before i do something about it. i've tried and tried and its not getting any easier, this seems like the best way to get to a healthy size so that i can better take other steps to improve my health. i admire ppl who are larger than me and go out, i stay home. large ppl who go swimming, i'm so jealous, i love to swim, but havent been in about 10 years. Just to be able to take a walk around the neighborhood without feeling like i'm going to have a heart attack would be so nice. no one knows how uncomfortable i am in this body. its so funny (not funny ha ha) how everyone pushes and encourages society's view of attractive, but yet they degrade you for taking steps to lose weight. they degrade ppl for being fat, but there's no encouragement to take steps to protect your health.

Mexico is the best - Down 120 lbs.
i haven't scheduled mine yet, was concerned about the financing. but now that that is approved i am looking at around the beginning of march or so. i don't want to miss much work, don't want anyone at work to know. i'm truly excited, its been such a long time since i've felt so optimistic about anything

Mexico is the best - Down 120 lbs.
with it in Mexico, are followups, fills, etc difficult? are you traveling from far? i'm within an hour of my dr. i have friends that can drive me across the border, but i'm really not familiar with the drs there. they offer to pick me up and drive me across the border though, that seems very considerate on thier part, considering the border can be very hectic for one who doesn't cross. i understand there is no passport requirement in effect yet if you are traveling on land. only the DL is required, did you need any other forms of ID?
