brindall got a reaction from pegrae in Is this really starting?
I felt the same way before my surgery. Almost cancelled it! But I'm glad I didn't. As far as how you will feed your daughter I had the same concerns. In the beginning obviously I had to make her own meals while I was on the liquid and puree diet however now I have her eating like I am, just larger portions. Kids are never to young to start good eating habits. She didn't like some of the food at first but she is now very willing to try different things and is finding things that she likes! It is a big deal and a big change but just take it one step at a time and you will find it to be doable. Good luck!

My physician told me no gummies at all. In the beginning they can get "stuck" and after that they don't absorb well so you're really not getting all you need to get.

I had the bypass done for several reasons. The biggest one was for the diabetes. Bypass is the only surgical procedure that can be considered a cure for diabetes versus a control. Secondly the acid reflux which was a huge problem for me and it's now gone. Third it has a better long term success rate than the sleeve. There were many people in my classes getting revisions on their sleeves which kind of turned me off. Good luck which ever way you go!

My liver function tests went down too after surgery. I was surprised and thought it was a fluke because it was kind of soon but I guess not after reading this post!

brindall reacted to Daisee68 in How soon can you get strictures?
You can get it this early. Keep an eye on it. I was vomiting once or twice a week at that point and didn't discover structure until 3 months post-op

I take the Celebrate Bariatric Vitamins in berry flavor and I actually like them. I also take the Bariatric Advantage calcium citrate in chocolate flavor and they are pretty good too.

brindall got a reaction from BonnieJo in 6 days post op and ready to gnaw off my arm. HALP
My go to liquid post op was Jello and Water. Not exciting I know but the jello gave me the different flavors and the water helped the thirst that I constantly felt. Like the other people said, it's the first step in leaning how to control you cravings and temptations. Just remember this phase doesn't last forever and before you know it you're on to the next. I'm in the puree phase right now and I'm sick of it. I go to soft foods in 4 days and I can't wait. I'm tempted to start them now but I then tell myself that the plan is the way it is for a reason so I'll continue to follow it. I wish you well!!

brindall got a reaction from Djmohr in ERCP after RNY - questions
ERCP is when they take a scope and go down to your pancreatic ducts to look for stones or blockages I believe. It has to be done very carefully in general and much more so post RNY because the anatomy is different after RNY. I had one done before RNY.

I had RNY gastric bypass 33 months ago. The directions that I received following surgery were:
    0-4 weeks post-op Full liquids
    Weeks 5-8 post-op pureed Foods
Weeks 9 and beyond Solid Foods
When I hit the solid stage I found that some foods, especially meats were hard to eat by themselves. They sat heavy in my stomach for a long time. But I found that if I mixed the meats into chili or Soups, they went down a lot easier. I referred to these foods as soft foods. So if you bite into a steak soon and find that it is hard on your stomach, then you are consuming a hard food.
Soft foods are as much about food preparation than the ingredients. If you want to consume chicken breast, then put it on a low boil for a few hours and add a bouillon cube. Cook it until it comes apart gently with a fork. It is now soft enough to eat. Soft foods are also produced by mixing food groups together. Make a hamburger and try to eat it. Hard food. But take the same hamburger meat and use it in chili, it is now soft on your stomach.

All Soups, fresh or canned(no sugar added) fruits w/o skin, Beans with melted cheese, mashed potatoes, eggs all kinds, lean ground meats in gravies or sauces(low sugar), applesauce, yogurt, sugar free pudding or Jello etc. I'm sure there is a bunch more too that I haven't tried. I'm new too.
I tried to have some meatloaf with a little gravy on it but I think I'll stick with slow cooker things like Soups and chili and greek yogurts are my food choices mostly other than drinking 2 premier Protein shakes as well. They sit better with me. It's a lot better to be able to chew my food. I was tired of drinking my food all day. Happy Chewing!

I've relaxed a bit about losing the weight. I seem to have a pattern where I don't lose for a few days then I lose a couple pounds etc. I realize now it's not just going to "fall off"! lol

I'm in the pureed food stage. Does anyone know what the average weight loss is during this time? I don't seem to be losing much.

Everyone loses differently. It depends on how much you weigh. People that way more, tend to lose more initially. I started my journey at 243 and am in a stall right now at 195 and I had surgery October 28th. Be patient, it will start to come off

Unfortunately this is common! A true PITA! I was told to take some PhillipsMilk of Magnesia. It tastes horrible but I guess it works.

I was advised to take (up to 4 a day) Colace and Miralax, if needed. 1 Colace seems to keep me at a comfy spot.

I did move anything for two weeks. Doctor ordered me to drink a full bottle of magnesium citrate. It worked! Drink on an empty stomach then drink a lot of water! Its been a week after still no movement again. I was told to take miralax every 3days in 4oz unsweetened apple juice. I just figure I was slow before, I'm going to be even slower now.

almost everyone has that - not just right after surgery, but forever! You got some good suggestions here. From here on out, you'll have to figure out treatments (or combos of treatments) that keep things moving for you.

Sure glad to read these posts. I've been wondering after surgery how you are able to get in Fiber for bowels (???). So I read here that it is normal to hit a few slooow downs! ????
Okay! I like the idea of Miralax in some juice/water. And in familiar with colace. My pre op instructions say to do Clear Liquids today and citrate of mag towards evening time. Appreciate the heads up. I'll make a note to ask about that before I'm discharged. I jut love this website ????????????????!

brindall got a reaction from jantra12 in Naysayers.... How to deal
I anticipated the naysayers and right now only my parents and my daughter know. I will tell my closest friend shortly, surgery is only 1 1/2 weeks away. My question is, why do you all think people are so negative about this surgery? People get elective surgery all the time for all types of reasons! I even had a doctor, the cardiologist I was referred to to clear me for surgery, question my decision. He said, "Do you really think this will help your diabetes?" and "This is major surgery you know" It wasn't said in a supportive tone. So why are people so negative about this particular surgery and does educating them help at all or not really worth the time?
