sleever54 got a reaction from adrinanna in Is there anyone here who does NOT track weight loss?
I couldn't do this journey if I weighed everyday or anyday. I don't weigh myself and if I go to the Dr's I turn around and ask them not to tell me what my weight is. If I don't want to turn around on the scale I just look up so I don't see it and again ask them not to tell me.
I lose SUPER SLOW and I am not 100% perfect on the eating scale either. But I have lost and I know without a scale when I am gaining and when I am losing. All based on what food choices I am making and bottom line that's no secret.
Like today, I feel pretty lousy and it's all because I've been eating junk food for the last 3 days. I know it's emotional crap too because my youngest is moving out and soon I will be that empty nester and I can tell you it is affecting my emotions. That's something that's real and I got to deal with the emotional swings. Exercise helps.
However, if I weighed on a scale it wouldn't help but just drive me into a pretty bad depressed state because I see the negative results of my emotional swing lately.
I know what I have to do today. Just jump on the band wagon and get back to low carbs and high Protein and get myself mentally more stable with exercise and drinking more fluids.
Not sure I answered your question but bottom line at the age of 54 I know that the scale and me will never be good friends so why have it in my life? It's never served me well!

sleever54 reacted to Lema in Never thirsty
Water alone is difficult and juice makes it too sweet. I get too sick of flavours so I squeeze a lemon in my water bottle and I love it. I can get a litre down in a day and I am happy with that for now.
I can and I will.

When I eat fast is how I end up overeating as well.

For me, overwhelming sleepiness comes on if I eat too much. Try cutting your meal sizes down (by half or a third) and see if that helps. Good luck!

sleever54 reacted to OutsideMatchInside in Low carb versus I don't count carbs?
@@sleever54
I keep my carbs low because I have always liked eating low carb and most of the carby things that people like (Pasta, popcorn, crackers, chips, rice), I do not like at all. So it is easy for me to cut them out since I never really ate them.
If you follow your plan, you end up being low carb by default. I am always amazed how people get so many carbs in. I have to eat my veggies as "snacks" to get them in because if I eat my Protein I am full. 3-4 ounces of dense Protein fills me up and there is no room for anything else.
I think keeping your carbs low matter just because it makes sure you aren't eating junk, and by junk I mean things with little nutiritional value and things that don't meet your dietary needs. The main dietary needs post-op are protein and Vitamins and that means meat and green veggies. The carbs in veggies are Fiber for the most part and don't count.
The only way you are eating high carb post op is if you choose to do so on purpose.

If you need/want to keep track of your protein/calorie/carb in take, I really liked using myfitnesspal app. You can also use it on your desktop.

I follow a high Protein, lower carb diet. It is very well balance and has been since I came home from the hospital. The carbs I do eat are focused on vegetables and fruits primarily and now that I am in maintenance i also have some whole grains in my diet.
My nut does not believe in eating your Protein first but taught me to have 2 bites of protein for every one bite of fruits and vegetables.
So far it is working for me.

my program stresses eating Protein first, then veg... no room for anything else, so i don't bother cutting carbs.

That is your choice.
I just happen to believe what I posted.
You have to decide what is right for you.

sleever54 reacted to beezy8 in How old were you when you had your surgery?
I am 70. Had my surgery 12/31/15, 6 months ago. Sw 223, cw 173. So glad I had the sleeve. Back pain is gone, meds cut way back. Insulin cut way back. Want to lose at least 15 more pounds.

Hello - I am quite new to the surgery. Had it on Tuesday May 26, 2015 - the hardest part for me was the nausea due to the anesthesia. I got home and took a total of 2 doses of the pain meds. Once I figured out that the pain meds made me nauseous, I stopped taking them and have not looked back. Between the pre operative diet and as of 2 weeks out I am down 35 pounds. I am really struggling getting in my Protein, but have figured out some strategies that work for me and I do really well at getting my Water in. There is some fatigue as you recover for a few days, but I am back at work and am humming right along. The hospital where I had the surgery is too far to go for me to do support groups, so I found a group close to my work and went last night. They were fabulous. It is weird coming back to work and people noticing my weight loss - some have even asked me quite loudly about it; however I am very grateful to have the opportunity to take charge of my health.

Parts of me does regret it SLIGHTLY.. i obviously couldnt diet on my own because if i could of i would have. But its dishearting to me that i will always have to watch my carbs for the duration of time that i would like to lose weight. Sort of like a modified Atkins style diet. i will always have to be careful with carbs even with 85% stomach gone. It makes me sad because I didnt think i would have to do the whole always on a diet thing again. I had to change my mind set to " i can eat what i want BUT i have to finish my Protein first, which usually leaves no room for anything else". That is how i get by. Again i am only 6 weeks post op, but Im feeling great and know i couldnt diet alone for the length of time i need to get enough weight off. Final decision is: I am happy I did it
Good Luck!

To eat slow...I still sometimes eat to fast and get over full and uncomfortable if I'm not careful.

sleever54 got a reaction from foodfighter78 in Tired of discussing my weight with people
Perhaps the best skill to learn and try with people is how to change a topic quickly when it comes to your weight. As soon as it starts be ready to ask someone else a question like how's your daughter. Did you hear it's gonna rain tomorrow. Who are you voting for? Yada Yada yada....good luck. Hope they leave you alone some. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Surgery went great! I felt excellent afterwards.
Starting weight on surgery day was 178. Down 10 pounds.
I can only take sips of Water and a tad of Protein water. It doesn't sit well if I were to gulp and if I do get too much liquid in my mouth I have to spit it out in another cup. This is something that will take time. I'm still happy I did this.
