Well for me, I can eat more and do feel hunger. I am still a food addict. Also, started snacking on foods that I "missed" and couldn't eat in the beginning. Having cravings. Now the real work begins, maintenance for the rest of my life and figuring out what works best for me. The struggle is real, but I tell people it's been hard work but totally worth it!

I agree about the P3. You can just make Snacks of high Protein things like: turkey, cheese, and nuts.

You look wonderful. Keep going girl. I'm seven months out too and so happy. Isn't WLS surgery just the most amazing thing. I'm loving my journey and hope that anyone who is wondering whether or not to undergo surgery just goes for it. It's the best thing that I have ever done. My fitness levels have just soared, as has my self esteem. I'm having a ball wearing clothes that are fun instead of functional and am determined to grow old disgracefully.

High five!!! I had my heart attack 3 yrs@ 40 plus open heart surgery and that still was not my wake up call until I felt that squeezing sensation on my left breast again... got my heart M.D. to give clearance and I'm getting sleeved 5/18 to save my life... I'm years out and I have had no problems at all other than heartburn which I have medication for .
The sleeve has made my life better in so many ways. My only regret is that I had this done in my 50's and it would have been so great if I had been sleeved and not overweight in my 30's . Life is still pretty great for this 63 year old.

My insurance sucks royally in regard to WLS. They only cover the surgery at 50%.
Funny fact......if I'd used my insurance, I would have had to also pay $28,000 out of pocket myself.
By self-funding 100% of the cost of my surgery.....I only had to pay $20,000 out of pocket.
Ridiculous game, but one I'd play again and again in order to have my sleeve and begin regaining not only my health but my life back.

If you were going to die you would have most likely died on the operating table. That's when the risk for death is at it's highest. You made it. Relax.
The longer you go out from the day of your surgery the more you will be able to eat.
As far as complications, there's not that many associated with the sleeve. It's by far the safest of the current surgeries. If by chance a complication does develop it normally develops within the first 3 months.
I think you will be fine. Just relax.

Testing your sleeve with worthless carbs so soon is probably not the best idea. Everything you listed were things I Would not consider touching until I was below goal. Looks like you found out first hand the difference between dense Protein and slider foods. As well as the limitations of what surgery actually does and how vital the mental part if the process is. You are also experiencing what happens when most people eat carbs....their hunger increases and they just want more. It's a vicious cycle and probably the number 1 cause of WLS failure.
With WLS, it's not a matter of cheating, it's a matter of choices. You need to take advantage of these first few months to learn how to eat healthy and retrain the way you approach food. The struggle with food choices only gets harder the farther out you get, but chocolate covered raisins, nachos and rice are always poor choices, especially in the losing phase.
So chalk the day up to lesson learned and Good luck moving forward from here.

Everyone's doctor and program differs. My doc says 1 gram of Protein for every inch you are tall as a minimum. So for example, I'm 5'7". So my protein minimum is set at 67 grams a day. Mostly I'm ok with that. I still have to remind myself not to sit down without Water next to me ... And it has been years.
I just try everyday.... Really, it's the best any of us can do.... Try!

    Almost 1030 Sunday morning...
It's a clear, crisp, Autumn day...
    I skipped church this morning...
That's almost 1600 Sundays in a row now....
    But I'm ok with that...
Plus, Sunday is my "don't gotta think about calories and stuff when I decide what I have for dinner" day..
So it'll be something with vanilla Coke...
    The hard, fully-sugared variety...
    F*ck the haters!!
    They don't know me...
    They don't know my story...
I may even live on the edge and - use a STRAW!!!!

Avoiding diet soft drinks is not part of my Surgeon/NUT's plan. The only thing mentioned is to take it slow as it can cause some people discomfort.
And totally contradictory to what others have posted that their surgeon recommends, the book I was given to follow, The gastric sleeve guide (Australian publication), recommends using a straw to reduce contact with your teeth as the acid can damage them.
Diet energy drinks are recommended to only be used in moderation as the high caffeine may increase your heart rate and blood pressure.

    @@Inner Surfer Girl,
Thanks for the reminder. I agree with your points. A lot of people don’t seem to realize how important Protein is. The requirements your surgeon or nutritionist tell you aren’t a goal or a best-case scenario. They’re requirements! And, like you said, no bonus points for not hitting them! That’s a great way of putting it.
Water, too. I think sometimes Water is even more under-recognized and under-emphasized than Protein, but it’s just as important as protein, if not more. It’s more important if you’re concerned about things like life and death, and not ending up in the emergency room from dehydration.
Thanks for the reminder. It was a good reason to get up on your soapbox.

I responded to the OP in the fashion they wrote the original post. While i agree most surgeons have not been through surgery it us just as damaging to say you should be getting x amount of protein per day. This amount is very dependent on the individual and there are risks to having too much protein in your diet

in the early days it is all just sip sip sip and walk walk walk. you just keep trying each day and then one day the swelling goes down, and it gets a lot easier.

I was sleeved April 20, 2015. It took a while, but I was eventually able to drink plain Water again. It took a while. In the meantime, try adding water enhancers, herb tea, infusions (like berries, cucumbers, fruit, herbs, etc.), and different temperatures.

    @@Beck90,
    A couple of comments.
One is the way you said you could drink diet soda on “previous diets.” This isn’t really so much of a “diet program” issue as it is a weight loss surgery and lifestyle change issue. For example, your previous diets might not have required you to chew your food XX times before swallowing, or to separate food from beverages, but the gastric sleeve does. I realize this doesn’t answer your question about diet soda, but my point is that there may be some differences after sleeve compared to with other programs you’ve tried.
My other point is relatively unrelated to weight loss surgery; it’s a point just about the artificial sweetener and the research on it. Researchers consistently find that people who drink diet soda do no better than those who drink regular soda (and all of the sugar and calories in regular soda), and may even do worse. Diet soda may make you hungrier and (as @@PinkPolkadot619 said, increase cravings), which would be opposite to what you’re hoping for from the sleeve.
But keep asking around – it’s always good to know why you’re doing what you’re doing, and what your plans are for post-op.
