I told EVERYONE!! I'm not a good liar so when I return Monday 40 lbs lighter, I will rejoice with them. Lieing is not one of my gifts : / or I would have. I did want to tell anyone but I know me. I would have felt like they knew anyway and knew I was lieing. Out 6 weeks, 40 pounds less lol. I even thought to say it was my gallbladder but my luck my gallbladder will need to be removed upon my return lol
You don't have to tell... you do what's right for you.

I'm 7 weeks and I've lost 25 since surgery. I did lose 15 prior surgery. So a total of 40.
    You're losing almost 4 pounds per week. I think that's great. ????
I have noticed that I lose more when I get 80-100 grams of Protein and my Water. I almost always meet my Protein goal of 60-80 however it's difficult to exceed that.
Sure I get discouraged but I know that I'm doing exactly what I'm suppose to do and I've never lost 25 pounds in 7 weeks before. Thankful for every pound lost.
Good luck! You will lose it.

    Hi everyone!
Thanks so. Yah for the well wishes. I am writing this from my hospital bed as we speak! I experienced a complication with my surgery that required me to visit the OR twice! After the initial bypass, I could not stop spitting up blood. My surgeon felt that the volume of blood was enough to warrant another visit the the OR. During the 2nd visit, they were able to reinforce the connection between my intestine and my pouch. To say that I was terrified during this ordeal would be an understatement things.
Luckily for me, the 2nd surgery resolved the issue I was experiencing. The downside is that my discharge date has been pushed ahead to Saturday (it was originally Friday). I realize that I am in good hands and am being monitored very closely.
Pain wise things haven't been that bad. I am on Dilotin and have access to a med button which administers the drug at timed intervals. Having had 3 cesarean sections, the pain this time around actually mirrors that of my c-sections. It's not unbearable pain but it is tolerable in my opinion.
Please let me know if there are questions you have about my experience. Reading the Guide to Bypass" was actually very helpful, especially the bits on what to bring to the hospital. For me, Chapstick has been essential as well as a good book (I am not a big TV watcher).

Planning your eating is an essential skill to have foods you need to be healthy after surgery. But let’s face, some days will fall apart. Unexpected situations come up and you will need an emergency stash of Protein foods.

Non-perishable protein foods are ideal to stock up at work, home, in your purse or backpack or in your car. Keep a clean shaker cup and single serve size of Protein Powder handy. All you need is Water to mix. Keeping a ready to drink Protein Shake handy can be an easier alternative. All you need is to open and sip or find a cup of ice to pour the drink into.
Small cans of tuna or chicken can be open and eaten right out of the can. There are also tuna and chicken salad kits that you can keep stocked at home or work. Softer meat sticks or meat Jerky can be stashed in a desk drawer or locker at work. Brands include Ostrim (available at Owasso Nutrition Plus by Fit for her in Owasso or online) and Kratos High Protein Beef Bars (currently at Reasors).
For meat sticks, find ones that have four grams of fat or less and at least seven grams of protein per ounce. High protein Quest chips make for a crunchy snack that can be stashed. These are currently available at GNC stores. Nuts deliver protein and healthy fat. Make sure you measure out the nuts, because that healthy fat leads to higher calories. One ounce of nuts is about ¼ cup. Measure this into snack size baggies or find the 100-calorie packs of nuts. Eating out of the container can lead to overeating.
Protein Bars are also great ways to get in some protein. Look for protein bars with more protein than carbohydrate like Pure Protein or Premier Protein. If you are driving about town, you can get protein bars and Protein Drinks at convenience stores like Quik Trip and Kum & Go. You can also stop at a grocery store and buy string cheese, light yogurt or an Oscar Meyer P3 snack pack. Keep a stash of plastic spoons in your car for eating yogurt. Time to stock up on emergency proteins!

@Veronica_mm Looks like you're about 6 weeks out. I was staying between 550-600 calories and 65-75 grams of Protein at that point. I was able to up my Protein count and keep it within the calorie range by using my Premier vanilla Protein shake as the Creamer in my decafe coffee and Protein2.0 Water helped as well. I've added a picture. Visit their website and you can put your location in and find out where you can purchase them. They average $1.99 but my local Gate gas station always has them on sale for $1.50. My faves are the berry and Grape. At 5 months post-op I'm up to 800 calories and 125 grams of protein per day. I have really thin hair to begin with and can NOT afford to lose any of it Keep up the great work and Best of luck to you!

It's tough but you can do it. I focus on the Protein Shake first thing in the morning and one in the evening. In between Water which I have YET to drink all 64 oz, I'm 6 weeks out. I can do for sure 40-50 but never the full 64. Hell yesterday I only was able to drink 30, but I ate good. It's hard because we can't just chug anymore to get it in. Yes you get very full on so little. Today I had 1/2 cup of pinto Beans, a string cheese and two sugar free popsicles. That's all I really average. The rest of the day I'll focus on more water and my last shake. Maybe lil snack tonight. You'll get your rythem to get all your Protein and liquids in.
Sucks that chicken made you sick. meats are very heavy I've noticed.

lol don't worry or feel that way. My doctor gave me instructions that were verrrryy strict. At 6 weeks am still supposed to be on PUREE. Little does he know I've eaten more heh heh heh..I've notice a lot of people on here are very different in thier eating. Just depends on the doctor. I think you are eating what we will get too. Am egg and cheese for breakfast is great and so is the tuna salad. I'll get there. That is not a lot of food. Don't worry : )

A month out and it sounds like I eating way more than everyone else. I'll have an egg with cheese for Breakfast or half a can of tuna salad for lunch. I'm not measuring things but it's more than a couple bites. Now I'm worried my pouch is too big and I'm eating too much.

Veronica_mm reacted to CharlotteKat in Meds to stay away from forever?
    From https://asmbs.org/patients/life-after-bariatric-surgery
Q: Which medications should I avoid after weight loss surgery? A: Your surgeon or bariatric physician can offer guidance on this topic. One clear class of medications to avoid after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is the “Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs” (NSAIDs), which can cause ulcers or stomach irritation in anyone but are especially linked to a kind of ulcer called “marginal ulcer” after gastric bypass. Marginal ulcers can bleed or perforate. Usually they are not fatal, but they can cause a lot of months or years of misery, and are a common cause of re-operation, and even (rarely) reversal of gastric bypass. Some surgeons advise limiting the use of NSAIDs after sleeve gastrectomy and adjustable gastric banding as well. Corticosteroids (such as prednisone) can also cause ulcers and poor healing but may be necessary in some situations. Some long-acting, extended-release, or enteric coated medications may not be absorbed as well after bariatric surgery, so it is important that you work with your surgeon and primary care physician to monitor how well your medications are working. Your doctor may choose an immediate-release medication in some cases if the concern is high enough. Finally, some prescription medications can be associated with weight gain, so you and your doctor can weigh the risk of weight gain versus the benefit of that medication. There may be alternative medications in some cases with less weight gain as a side effect.

Some sleep aids might be NSAIDS like Advil Nighttime and should be avoided. Other meds like prescription Trazodone are fine.

The warning about ulcers is very real. I have a good friend who kept taking ibuprofen after her gastric bypass and she developed ulcers. It was very serious and it put her in the hospital.

I work at night and sometimes have to take sleep aids to help sleep during the day (especially that first day back). Obviously you should ask your doctor, but, for sleep aids, I was told it was okay to take Tylenol PM, Benadryl, or Z-Quill. They told me it was okay to take Allegra or Claritin as well for allergies. I fly a lot, and I make sure to have some Dramamine on me when I do which was okay given the ok for me to take (and can also help you sleep). My first flight post-op is a couple of weeks away so we'll see how that goes. Thankfully it's a short hop so I'll only take the non-drowsy Dramamine. Any flight longer than 2-3 hours I take original formula Dramamine so I can sleep on the flight as well as have a calm stomach.
