losing2win got a reaction from Anna Nim in Anyone in education getting sleeved?
I teach high school. We return August 1st. Students return August 3rd. I'm looking at getting sleeved in December so I can use the two-week break to recover.

I had a Mirena IUD for several years and it was fantastic. The current IUDs are NOT like the old scary kind. The Mirena is a tiny piece of soft plastic which releases a small amount of progestin. Even better, your periods will get lighter and possibly disappear. Nothing but good things to say about the IUD. I was also on birth control pills for many years and had no trouble with them. In fact, I was in the best shape of my life while on the pill.

One thing to remember is that no birth control is 100% effective. I say this as someone who has gotten pregnant 6 times while using various forms of birth control (3 of those were while on the pill). So whatever you choose I suggest using at least 2 different forms at all times.

The general side effect of hormonal birth control is weight gain, but by no means is it enough to negate your WLS. My uterus was too small for Mirena (I wanted something with the greatest side effect of stopping my period) so I ended up with the Nexplanon. It totally beats having to remember taking a pill at the exact time every day.

Reconsider the iud! There are 3 on the market now. Skyla-for women who have not had children yet-it contains hormones and is smaller mirana -the big sister to Skyla and Paraguard which contains copper and no hormones.
I didn't have weight gain using the nuvering.
I did have issues with the arm implant gaining weight. So in september I will go back on the pill when it's removed.
Non hormone methods-diaphram or cervical cap.
Hopefully in a couple years I can just get my tubes tied and be done.

I would reconsider the IUD. I don't know what horror stories you've heard but there are very few complications. Insertion can be uncomfortable for a little while but when it is time to have children - it gets removed (not a major procedure). It's so important that you wait to get pregnant.

So, there is a ton of back and forth on how long people took off from work and life post op, I am just wondering if anyone had success going back to school soon after surgery??
I go to a private college so I can only miss so many classes a term and I also don't want to fall behind. I can get work done ahead of time but there are things I need to be there in person for.
Like I said, just wondering about everyone's personal experiences with attending classes post op. Thanks!!!
(I am in nursing school too, so I get that your body needing a break, and surgical complications so no lectures please! )

@@Anna Nim has a bunch of good ideas. Just to add a bit of a ranking to what she laid out:
    1a. Temp job
    1b. Sell stuff on craigslist/ebay
    2. Real job but quit before surgery
    3. Boyfriend 2nd job
    4. Pawn stuff... not a great option as you likely will get pennies on the dollar and risk not getting items back if you can never come up with the money.
    .
    .
    .
    98. Sell kidney on black market.
    99. pay day or title loan... seriously, avoid this option at all costs. Nothing will put you in financial ruin faster than a pay day loan.

Thank you to everyone that shared ideas and that shared your concerns. I am so grateful. This week has been so emotional, crazy, and just hard. After last Friday when I found out that surgery wasn't going to happen to for me on Monday which was my surgery date. I was crushed. I was just broken. I cheated all weekend and had pizza, burger and fries, and of course chocolate!!! Monday morning I showered before work and said to myself the money to pay down my deductible wasn't going to pay itself. I called to see if I could get back on the calendar for surgery on the last possible date Monday, June 27th. I did!!!! Then, I gathered a plan and spoke with friends, family and coworkers to see if I could get donations and/or loans. I sold some clothes and home goods that I haven't ever used. Long story short by mid week I knew that $2000 wasn't going to happen so I called my surgeon's office on Friday morning to see if I could pay half and work a payment plan for the other half later. The receptionist stated that she couldn't authorize it and there was no on in the office that could and that her supervisor was in NY. She said she would call and let me know but couldn't make any promises. I was a nervous wreck waiting...so she finally called around 1:30 and said yes!! They accepted!!!! My surgery will be Monday June 27th. I literally started shaking I was so happy. I had a friend drive me because I had to pay at the office because I had cash and it's about an hour away. I made it! I paid it! I'm so happy and excited!! It was meant to be!!

losing2win reacted to okcbaby in Financing!
My consult was 7/1. I have to lose 28 lbs before surgery. So far I'm doing alright lost 7lbs so far. My biggest hurdle will be financing. I have insurance that will absolutely under no circumstances cover WLS. I don't have good credit either. I have a huge support system and they are going to try and help me raise some funds through a garage sale but I really need to get some financing somehow as well. Any one in my same boat have any tips? Thanks in advance!
