Congratulations! This is the best present you could have given to yourself. I was sleeved last July and have lost about 70 pounds to date. I did it on a Wednesday and went back to work the following Monday. I feel and look great. Here a picture of me 1 month after surgery and the picture with the white top was actually taken 6 weeks before surgery.
    P.S. Happy birthday.

Ewwww....a little defensive? Why did you post if you can't accept that other people have a different view than you do? Pot is a drug plain and simple. And if you need it to relax....well, what do you think an addition is?

Electrolytes. Try drinking or eating any one of the following each day: coconut Water, gatorade, a banana. The added potassium should take care of the muscle cramping. I used to get horrible charlie horses in the middle of night and coconut Water did the trick.

maregal reacted to LipstickLady in Why are people so mean to you after WLS?
I'm seriously not even sure what that means but...
It's hard for people who are also trying to lose weight to see their results next to those of us who are fortunate enough to have WLS. Many of them are under the misconception that this is the "easy way out". They don't know the truth of the diet and exercise we have (should!) to follow. They don't know about the discomfort, the sleeplessness, the mind f**k this process really is.
That said... If you got pregnant, would you "flaunt that" to a friend struggling with infertility? If you got a raise, would you talk that up to a friend who just got laid off?
It's give and take. Yes, your friends should be happy for you, but they are human. Let them feel their feelz and respect that. You are still winning by losing, right?

Remember the journey is yours the struggle was yours. No one else knows what u went through then nor what you're going through now. So they don't want to hear about it all the time. It's like when one of my friends has a new baby and every time the baby farts or burps or giggles there has to be a new post on Facebook. I don't have kids so I don't care. Everything that you're talking about is your internal journey and they may not get it. But don't let it make you feel any less fabulous about yourself
also they are probably jealous. you've done something good for you and you're gorgeous and healthy

My family, mainly my mom and ex-husband, have been commenting that I'm obsessed with my weight loss. They say it's all I ever talk about or think about and they think I should move on.
Well, it's been 9 months since my first surgery. And before that I spent 6 years being fat and hating myself. I didn't take care of myself, I couldn't wear nice clothes or heels, men looked right past me, women felt sorry for me. I was told by my mom and my ex what a mess I was and how sad it was I'd let myself go on a repeated basis. I was basically living in despair.
I wake up everyday now and feel like I've won the lottery. I love having my picture taken, buying and wearing the latest fashions, doing my hair and makeup. I love looking at myself in the mirror and basically I'm just floating around in cloud nine to be given this second chance at life!!
Don't you think, at only nine months out, and only a couple months of goal weight, I should be allowed to feel great and proclaim it from the rooftops for awhile?
My friends don't say I'm obsessed with myself or my weight loss. They Celebrate it with me!

I'm sorry to say this but if you don't want to hear negative things or peoples various opinions do not tell anyone once you put the info out there they are going to feel they can voice their views on your decisions I understand u aren't asking their opinion or approval however it never stops those who wish to rain on your parade so to speak perhaps if you feel comfortable enough just say what you want to say and then say I've made this decision for my health with a dr no negative or unsupportive comments will be acknowledged thank you

i guess i have been really lucky. everyone i have told has been really supportive, either that, or we just discuss it. No one has given me that crazy look. I guess they know me well enough; when I am set on something no one can change my mind.

I had my surgery last Monday and went back to work this Monday with no issues. Everyone is different though. I honestly think that getting up and out of the house has done me good in my recovery. I have not had any pain or fatigue.

maregal reacted to angels91 in Medically exempt!
Earlier this week, I found out my insurance doesn't cover WLS, even after being told by the insurance company (prior to filling out the paperwork for the weight loss center)that if my dr got the preapproval, and then made the referral to the center, there shouldn't be a problem.
Well, I called the insurance company as soon as the weight loss center informed me that insurance wouldn't cover to find out what my options were. The person I spoke to was VERY helpful. She told me I could do a medically exempt questionnaire, and if approved I would be able to get my surgery. She then said to call back on Friday, to find out the results, and that I would also get a letter early next week with the findings.
Well, I am NOT good at waiting. I called yesterday late afternoon. The person I spoke to was kinda rude. She said that there was no way they could check what the findings/results were, and that I would receive a letter in 7-10 days with their finding.
So, fast forward to this am. I called again. Got another very nice, helpful person. I explained the situation to her. She said it looked like I WAS approved for the medically exempt status! And that there was a letter stating so mailed out the previous day. (Which tells me the person I spoke to yesterday would have KNOWN if they had even checked.)
Now it's time to wait for the award letter so I can fax it to the weight loss center and get this ball rolling! Time to take back my life!

I had VS surgery almost one year ago on Aug 4, 2014. It's been quite a ride and I've fallen off the wagon more times than I'd like to admit, but I wouldn't go back for anything! I'm 5'8" and weighed 265 at my highest. Today I weigh 178. I still have 10-15lbs to go-- by far the hardest pounds to lose! Here are my before/after pics.

Well, I've survived a year, lol. What an amazing journey it's been. I've learned so much.
The support on the board is great. I'm on here every day reading what going on. Chiming in if I can. Thank you to all of the vets. You rock.
To summarize my highest weight I ever saw (around 2004) was 265. I was 224 when I started my WL program and just under 200 the day of surgery. (In the attached photo I think I was around 225).
I reached my goal weight of 138 three weeks ago. I am now 135. I imagine I'll stop losing soon.
I get 80-100 grams of Protein a day. I exercise 4-5 days a week. (Walking, biking, resistance). I also golf, and swim, amongst other things. I enjoy running, but my knees don't. So I'm working on it.
I'm 52 and feel like I'm 20. This is the best thing I've done besides marry my husband of 30 years and have our amazing son. ???? They've been my biggest supporters.
My major health issues have resolved. No more metformin. Normal A1C.
Down side is loose skin (yes, I am pursuing plastic surgery). Also developed acid reflux. That's a trade I can handle. I wonder if I had it all along. My butt and boobs are gone...MIA. One will get fixed...you can guess, lol.
My words to live by...life is short, so get your butt out there and LIVE it. Really SHOW those that you love that you love them. That includes yourself.
