I did depo years ago and it quickly put lots of weight on me. I don't recommend it. I have mirena & love it. I am going in this Thursday to have mine replaced actually because the one I have in now has been in for almost 5 years. Highly recommend mirena.

I got my sleeve the same day as you, and I've lost 32 pounds including pre-op. It's frustrating for me too, but I'm just trying to keep reminding myself that slow and steady really is best!!

So I confessed last week to my peeps on here that I was fighting a slight depression because I got hurt at work two weeks ago and couldn't go to the gym, but I also said I was sticking to the plan and monitoring myself carefully, well here's proof to those who want to give in or think they can't do this, I hit my next milestone today I am at 288lbs that's exactly -100lbs lost since January, I was at 388lbs and by my surgery date on June 10th I was at 346lbs, now on to my next Milestone, hit 250lbs before end of the year, I need to lose 93-95lbs for my goal weight so this is my halfway point and I'm very excited, and I'm back in the gym starting light but I am there.......

avRose reacted to theother_onefoot in Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
I didn't expect the weird noises that would constantly come from my throat and chest from anything I ate or drank. I guess they're just air bubbles, but it can be so embarrassing when they happen in a quiet classroom.. People say if I could make myself burp it might help, but I can't figure it out!
I was off pain meds after a week. But the pain near my bellybutton (the strange pulling feeling) didn't go away for another week or so after that. I missed sleeping on my stomach beyond anything else and pushed myself a bit just to be able to do it when I was still pretty sore

I'm also 20 and a little over a month post-op! Aside from the first few days after surgery, everything has been super smooth and easy and I feel almost 100% like myself again now. The good thing about being young is that we typically heal more quickly it was scary because I have so much of my life ahead of me to live with this permanent decision, but from the post-op side I can definitely tell you that it's a great decision you're making (even if it doesn't seem like it the first few days after). I'm super happy I followed through with it. Good luck!

I didn't have coffee until 9 months out. The doctor and nurse said it could stress out the stomach and cause heartburn. After three month appointment they said you can try it. I didn't because I was over the withdrawals and didn't want to deflect from what I was doing.
A couple of weeks ago I was getting low on energy and decided maybe caffeine could help me out and it did. There was probably better things I could of done but now I'm back on the coffee train. Just be focused on your goals before jumping off into a different direction. Good luck.

So I'm in college, and in some of the big lecture halls they have those tiny seats with the little desks that fold down on the sides of the seats. Before surgery I always had to scoot way over or stand up while the person next to me pulled their desk up because my legs/butt were all squished up against it, holding it down. But today, my friend next to me pulled her desk out and I didn't even notice because my butt was no longer touching the sides of my seat. Whoohoo!

Congrats! I'm not in school anymore, but I remember those seats and I remember the shifting required to let the neighbor pull up his desk. Awesome NSV!

I had sugarfree gum 2 weeks post op or so and had no problems. I just chewed it for like 5 minutes and was careful not to swallow it haha. I also have had sugarfree mints and they were fine, but I did feel a little yucky if I had more than one in a short amount of time though.

I was about to answer someone’s post when I thought I'd rather not derail it and instead start my own. This is hard for me as I am not usually a person to open up to strangers so please bear with me.
For a long time, even in my teenage years I would be a bit ‘chubby’, not fat but a little over weight. When I look back I can laugh, as my idea about dieting and losing weight, was to drop the 4 or 5 lbs I put on over Christmas or family holidays. I was about a UK 10 which is a USA 8. I heard from my Mum all the time, “If you could only lose a few pounds you’d be happy”. That confused me as I always thought I was happy!! My Mum had a 24 inch waist when she married and had a 24 inch waist after having me 7 years later. She came from the generation where you dressed to clean the house or do the gardening, so I don’t blame her mind set but it hurt me, a lot.
When I married my first husband I was already a slim 8 stone 4lbs (116lbs) and only put weight on during my pregnancies and lost it afterwards and was around 10 stone (140lbs). Then my thyroid stopped working, my body ate it up and to cut short a 22 year story of hell and despair I put a lot of weight on. I tried so hard to lose weight but between my thyroid, depression, moving every 2 years (my ex-husband is military) AND my own inability to stop putting food into my mouth, I failed time and time again. Seventeen years ago my Mum told me that she was very disappointed in me. She had no complaints about me as a Mother, she felt I was an outstanding Mum however everything else disappointed her. I disappointed her. She told me, her only child, not to visit anymore as I was FAT and embarrassed her. I haven’t seen her since.
I was unhappy in my first marriage and ate as a comfort. I also thought the fat would stop him wanting to touch me. It was a shield and if it was there nothing could hurt me. He wasn’t abusive, we had a good lifestyle and at times a good marriage but there was no real emotion there for me or the kids. I am not blaming him either, he just couldn’t do the connection thing on any levels. After 25 years of being together we divorced. food was now my partner and I stayed fat.
I met my second husband online 7 years ago. Online is easier isn’t it, you type and people don’t ‘see’. People can get to know you before they see the blubber. I was safe and felt secure. Even when we skyped about 4 months after sending emails and chatting on messenger, he only saw my face and you can always angle the webcam to make yourself look 40lbs lighter, only use it at night when the house lights are dimmed and wear black! We finally met and as the saying goes, ‘that was that!’ He saw past the fat. For 3 years he drove down from his home in the north of England to see me (I live in the south) every weekend. The drive was about 5/6 hours and he never ever missed a single weekend. We married 4 years ago this October. Not wanting to sound big headed but he worships me, loves and adores me. He accepts me for who and what I am and I am so blessed.
I always kept it in mind in the past that I had to diet for ME. Now I have had the surgery for US. I want to be around for a long time so we can enjoy life together. Doing it for US doesn’t mean I don’t want to be able to buy ‘skinny women’s’ clothes and get into a swimming pool without feeling I was going to pass out with shame. I want to peel back the layers and open myself up to life, grab it with both hands and shake it till it bleeds. I don’t want to waste any more time.
So yes ~ I keep to all the rules, yes ~ I’m not rushing to the next stage because I am tired of one week of soft foods, yes ~ I will wait to listen to my body and not my head or my fears, yes ~ I may make mistakes, learn from it and move on rather than sabotage it.
Yes. I can begin to love me.

I'm allowed to have sugar-free mints. They definitely don't last like gum but work for after a meal. Breath Savers 3 hour is pretty good. Hope this helps. And I was told no gum ever due to air/air bubbles.

I was allowed coffee immediately. It really just depends on your medical team. Sticking to Decaf sounds wise for now, good thinking!

Showering was a must for me too, but while I was in the hospital they wouldn't let me. Luckily I brought some body cleansing wipes so I was able to kind of "sponge bathe" around my belly.

I make little egg muffins on Sunday's that are easy to reheat and take to eat in the car for Breakfast during the week, and they're delicious! Use a muffin tin and line the bottom with browned low-fat sausage, a little bit of low-fat cheese, and green onions (I suppose you could also put pico/tomatoes in too). Then beat a bunch of eggs, season with salt and pepper, and pour into the tins and bake at 350 for 15 minutes or something like that. Easy, portable, yummy, and carb-free!
A yummy lunch I've also discovered (even though it does require fresh food) is lettuce wraps! I usually just do some deli meat and low-fat cheese. You can also add some shredded cabbage or broccoli slaw if you want a little more crunch. Then just a little bit of low-fat vinaigrette dressing for flavor.
Bell pepper and cucumber slices with laughing cow cheese is also an easy and tasty snack.
I think definitely if you do some more prep on the weekends (cut up vegetables, make breakfast for the week, etc) it'll make your week easier. I think that you definitely can have variety that's still healthy, but it may just require a little bit more planning since it's more time consuming to make things fresh.
