animallover1247 got a reaction from Valentina in Why do ppl tell me I don't need surgery?
I get it. Being morbidly obese, I struggled with self esteem issues like many others. When I was about 50 lbs less than my highest weight all I heard was "you're not that big." I appreciated the compliments but did not accept them because how can someone who is 100+ pounds overweight not be "not that big?"
Just yesterday at work my co-worker said I only have a little more weight left in my stomach to lose. Really? I have a little over 100 pounds to lose. I told her this and she said you will not look good if you lose over 100 lbs! I told her losing the weight was about getting rid of my diabetes, HBP and sleep apnea.

No, I never thought that for one second. I knew it couldn't do it on my own because if I could have, I would have done it in the 20 years I have been overweight. Statistically speaking morbidly obese people have less than a 5% chance of getting the weight off and keeping it off.

    You are not alone.
There's a friend who I have been friends with my entire life and I am 43. We have been friends since I was in diapers and carrying a baby bottle around.
I have not told her about my surgery becasue she is 100% anti-surgery. This is odd becasue of several reasons. She would likely be classified as super morbidly obese herself. I don't know how much she weighs but I would guess at least 375 but I really believe it would be closer to 400 lbs. She has a long list of medical problems including diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, fatty liver, and PCOS. She is on FIVE blood pressure medicines.
She has a brother who had gastric bypass surgery and she states he is not to his goal weight and he had the surgery about 5 years ago. He has been riddled with kidney stones as well (a possible side effect of the surgery). However, he is no longer diabetic. She says having kidney stones and being required to take a bunch of pills the rest of her life is not worth it to her. However, she is a walking pharmacy herself. Makes no sense.
She has another brother who could easily be featured on "My 600 lb Life." His weight is unknown at this time because he has been confined to his house for the last three years. He cannot walk because his knees have given out on him. He is diabetic and has received no care because he can't leave his home. Like the enabling family members on My 600 lb Life, his kids and wife (who are all "skinny") bring him unhealthy foods. His daughter was recently married and he was unable to attend. I told her the only thing that can save him at this point would be bypass. I added "you know he could die any day now." I received no response.
So I have avoided telling her about my surgery and I will NEVER tell her. I've lost 53 lbs pre and post op and she has not said one word to me about it and frankly I am completely fine with it. I hate I felt more comfortable telling my boss than I would her.
I am sorry your friend was not supportive. My advice would be not to say another word to her about it. Life changing events, whether it be weight loss surgery or not, tend to bring out the worse in people.

The stool softners did nothing for me either. I had to get a prescription medication. Magnesium citrate will work but stay near a bathroom.

I am 7 weeks post op and I have been hungry for seven weeks! Seriously! It is difficult to deal with too. I am having to pratice some major restraint and not eat any more than my 4 oz. I think most of my hunger is acid related even though I am on a PPI. Are you taking anything for acid reflux? This could be your problem. I would talk to your surgeon.

I am with you. I am only 7 weeks post op and I have stalled for 4 out of the 7 weeks. Disheartening since I have completely changed my diet like never before. I have not had one bite of nibble of anything with sugar or simple carbs in it for two months now. Never have I even came close to having done this. Gotta have faith the weight loss will start back up...hopefully sooner rather than later.

I agree with the other posts...run like hell and never look back (unless he's divorced). And one more thing...if either one of you guys are questioning whether anything being said/done is inappropriate, here's the test...if what you are saying/doing to each other is NOT something you would say/do in front of his wife, then it's inappropriate.

animallover1247 got a reaction from carlissaRN in HIPPA Violation
Don't feel bad...I had the same thing happen to me. Mine may not have been such a blatant HIPPA violation as yours is but a violation nevertheless.
When I completed by application, there was a space for my work number. I specifically added a note on the application that said "DO NOT CONTACT ME AT WORK." Well, what happens? They call me at work. Calling me at work is not so bad in itself but we have caller id (which pops up on every single phone in the office) and no one at work knew I was having surgery. I share an office with four other people who were sitting there when the call came to me. Well, at this point I was forced to tell them.
I blasted the person who called me who was very apologetic but I also let the office manager know. She didn't seem to think it was much of an issue stating "we have an old computer system and there is not a place to add additional information like do not contact at work." My suggestion was to find some kind of system so this can be avoided in the future.
Unfortunately, as you know, this can't be undone so your only recourse is to file a complaint. Otherwise, you just have to take it and that sucks unless of course you ask for a discount on your surgery lol
I am very curious....what was the response when you called them?

animallover1247 reacted to needtorecover in Does your lady feel safe? (what do women want?)
Thanks for inviting ladies to chime in!
I can attest to being scared all the time. It sucks. Being a woman means you're always wearing a target. Men make me feel unsafe, especially in large groups or when they're obviously drunk. I cross streets to avoid men who are talking loudly or shouting at each other. I'm always scared in parking garages. I'm scared when I walk alone at night. Sometimes I ask for an escort when I leave the grocery store after 11 pm because there are always men hanging out in the parking lot and I don't know what they're going to do to me.
I've been grabbed before. I've been cat-called. I've had men get too close and touch me inappropriately. And I'm not even that particularly noticeable, just a plain fat woman but I'm STILL a target.
I don't like feeling this way because there are plenty of good, decent men out there. The majority are good, in fact, and I know that. But when a man asks me for help or talks to me when I'm alone and no one else is around I get really uncomfortable and try to back away.
Part of it's also the sensationalizing of kidnappings, murders, and domestic violence towards women. You read these horrible stories about men kidnapping girls and women and doing awful things to them. I read stories about boyfriends, uncles, husbands, fathers stomping on babies or beating them to death while the mother helplessly watches. It makes my skin crawl.
Then there are the pedophiles. 9.5/10 times they are men. I'm very wary of unknown men around my baby.
Maybe not all women feel this way, but I do - I've had some bad experiences that have made me learn to always be defensive. I'm glad I'm raising a little boy so I can send another good man out into society who will make the women in his life feel safe with him.

I wasn't surprised -- obesity is such a hard struggle, even with surgery -- but the show still made me sad. It's hard to watch women (on this episode and on others I've seen) who are so willing to put up with men who treat them like absolute shit. It's also hard for me to watch adults who have been through super morbid obesity and learned how to eat healthy insist that they have to feed their children crap like biscuits and fried sandwiches slathered in grease. Children don't need biscuits and fried greasy sandwiches any more than adults do. It's like these parents *want* their children to grow up to be 600 lbs too. Children of obese parents have a very high likelihood of ending up obese themselves, and IMO those parents have an extra responsibility to teach them healthy eating early on.
Disclaimer: I don't have children so my parenting thoughts should probably be dismissed out of hand.

I agree with the above response only because at my one month post op, even though my weight loss was good, the nurse asked me how many calories I was eating. When I told her about 500-600, she told me that was not enough. She told me if I don't increase my calories, I will hit a stall. However, I had already stalled for two weeks starting at week 2.5 and it lasted two weeks (this is common anyway). She told me to eat between 800-1000 calories. However, you may want to go ahead and check with your nutritionist just to make sure what your caloric intake should be.
