This is by far the best thread I've seen on alcohol on here. I appreciate that there aren't any nasty comments (yet). Following....

When I talk to people about my surgery, I find myself constantly saying things like "it's so bizarre," or "I can't really explain it," when it comes to questions about hunger. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that I rarely experience hunger like I used to. I sometimes feel "empty," and I know I should eat, but I don't feel much desire to eat. It's such a welcome change from constantly thinking about food. I never thought I'd be someone who could actually eat primarily for fuel, and not for pleasure.

I see so many sweeping statements, surgeons and nutritionists telling people to "never eat this again." At least with crap food, it makes sense, but to say you can't incorporate fruit into a healthy diet is ridiculous to me. I assume then, that you also aren't allowed any regular sugar, ever again... I can't get on board with being told I can't have something EVER. That's just not realistic.

    This.
Just a new habit you have to get used to. It's better for you anyways, so you'll appreciate it once you get used to it.

I had a lovely 2 oz filet for dinner tonight, and I'm 7 weeks post-op. I cooked it in a cast Iron skillet to get a nice crust and it was medium rare. So yummy! Served with a garlic Parmesan spaghetti squash. My favorite post-op meal so far!

I definitely think I had feelings similar to withdrawal. As with anything, the longer you go without what you crave, the easier it is to say no to it. So we get take advantage of this period of no hunger to help make that easier. I'm not 8 weeks out, and being around the food I can't (well, shouldn't) have doesn't even really bother me anymore.

    Also sleeved 8/31!!
I have a hard time with this too... I actually take medication for depression, which is very well controlled, but this is different. If I'm feeling flat about my surgery, or I don't really want to talk about it, it's because I don't want to be reminded of how many times I had to fail to get to this point.
I'm thrilled with my progress (45 pounds including 2wk pre-op diet)! I know it was the right decision, and I'm so happy happy I did it. But along with those feelings, are feelings of sadness that I let it get so bad, disappointed that I couldn't do it "on my own," embarrassment at the weight I've lost and gained again and again, for everyone to see. Every other aspect of my life is getting better, I just don't want to think about how I got here.
I think for me, these feelings aren't going to go away for a while. Maybe it just hasn't sunk in yet.... I've been this weight before, so it doesn't feel that much different from all the other times I've lost, just to gain it back. I've been overweight for a long time, it's going to take more than 8 weeks to undo the body issues. I know I'll get there.
As for energy, I still have days where I'm lacking energy and feeling sluggish. And if I do anything physical, even walking, I'm exhausted for the rest of the day. I try to keep my water/protein/calories/vitamins on track, but we are still adjusting to eating so few calories! I think I'm going to give it more time, try to be more active, up my Water, Proteins and calories as appropriate, and wait to see if my energy levels increase.
Good luck to you on this journey!

I know exactly how you feel! I look at pictures of myself, and I'm like, is this what everyone else saw? Because I never looked that bad/big in the mirror!
And now I'm super critical when I look in the mirror... Am I seeing what everyone else sees? I can see my face is smaller, but don't see much change in my body (without before and after photos).
It's just so bizarre that when we look in the mirror and are overweight, we don't see how big we are, but as we are losing weight, we can't see how small we've gotten.

Any suggestions on something salty or crunchy to eat with guacamole? I love the stuff, but I haven't made any because I associate it so strongly with tortilla chips.
Hmmm... Maybe toasted turkey pepperoni "chips?" Or homemade cheese crisps? But dang, that's getting up there for fat content.
Bonus points for thinking of something that could get me enough Protein to call it a meal!

Most of what I got in chewable I'm not going to get in chewable again when they run out. Some are way more expensive, and I tolerate full sized pills easily. I'm 8 weeks post op.

^^This is awesome! Just friends, lol...
To the OP- I never thought I'd be able to say no to all my favorite foods. Even though everyone said it's different after (just like they are all saying to you), I thought, well, that won't be me, they just don't understand how bad it is for me. It's hard to explain, but you'll understand when you get to the other side... It really is different. I need very little willpower to say no to the garbage I put in my body before surgery.
I still don't LOVE all the healthy foods I am eating, but I'm just not all that interested in food in general. I can honestly say, for the most part, I eat for fuel now. It's crazy. I'm only 8 weeks (tomorrow) post-op, so I can't say what I'll feel like in a year, but for now, it feels amazing to not obsess over food.< /p>
