My mom has said, "if I ever get it done NO ONE would know". But I actually have told my coworkers, friends and family. I have personally found a lot of cheer leaders who are very supportive. Sure the are a few negative ppl and I'm SURE there are conversations about me taking the "easy way out" when I'm not around but overall I've had a good experience sharing my journey. I KNOW I have worked hard and I KNOW I will continue to work hard after my surgery. I have confidence that after my surgery when I'm in the best shape of my life and able to exercise regularly, those results will speak for themselves. Imo don't be ashamed for taking control of your health.

Yes, you will be able to eat anything you want, probably as soon as your doctor releases you back on full foods. But if you are like me, my taste buds changed after not having any processed sugar for over a month. The old favorites just didn't taste as good and in my opinion, weren't worth eating anymore, because the taste wasn't good enough to justify eating the empty calories. You may find new favorite flavors like I did. Brussel sprouts are something I never ate pre-op, now I love them and can eat them as a meal in themselves.

there is only one totally proven way to avoid stalls and all the mental anguish they bring. It worked for me and I went from a size 22 to a size 6 in eight months. I'm still maintaining over a year later and I never once had to stress over a stall.
The secret to a stall-free weight loss journey is follow the program, get all your Protein, Water and Vitamins, be active, and most importantly, STAY. OFF. THE. scale.!!!!

Sure some rules are pretty standard (crackers 4 days after surgery) but MANY vary by doctor and nutritionist simply because there are no controlled studies to back a lot of it up. It's what that doctor has seen provide their patients with the most success.
Some plans advance faster than others. Some allow alcohol at a certain point. Some allow flavorings in the Water. THATS why we refer people back to the doctor and nutritionist that they chose, hopefully because they trusted that doctor enough to have surgery with them so hopefully they are motivated to follow the advice/plan of the doctor they trust.

Not quite sure life is meant to be so... sterile. I don't drink but rarely myself but if I lived my life worrying about whether every thing I ever ate fit an ideal of nutritional value then I don't think it would be much of a life...

mataz78 reacted to JamieLogical in At what rate should I expect to lose?
The mistake you made was using the word "expect". Rate of loss is both completely individual and almost entirely out of your control. Your body is gonna do what is going to do. All *you* can do is stick to the plan and the scale will trend downward.
I made the mistake early on of comparing myself to others and it caused me nothing but frustration and misery. I can't even count the number of times I complained about being a slow loser.
But you know what? I'm coming up on 12 months out, I'm less than 4 pounds from goal, and I wouldn't change a thing. I realize now that the rate of loss doesn't matter one bit as long as you are losing. If you follow your plan, get in your Water and Protein, and get in some exercise, you WILL lose the weight. And as I often say on these forums, 10 years from now when you are living your happy, healthy life, what will it matter if it took you 6 months or 16 months to get to your goal?

For my first drink (still two months away but I can dream!) I'm doing vodka and the SF crystal light flavorings. They have a strawberry lemonade and a toasted coconut that I think would be awesome with vodka. And vodka only has about 65 calories, no carbs, no sugar. Having a drink every now and then is no big deal! I already told my hubby (who will be my drinking buddy to make sure I'm good when I have that first drink) to make sure I don't eat anything I shouldn't. It's the food choices I made after the alcohol more so than the alcohol itself that made me gain weight. Good luck with your drink of choice!

Hi there......I'm a quiet lurker here but wanted to share, I keep saying to people I don't see the difference until my sister sent me a pic of me at her wedding when I was at my highest weight......I still have a long way to go but my surgery was in May and I am feeling great and can happily say I definitely see the difference now

This time last summer I was sitting at the beach with my family and friends discussing the fears/doubts/hopes that we all felt about my decision to undergo VSG that coming September. I could never had imagined then what a wild ride id thrust myself upon and where id be now.
As my one year anniversary approaches (9-8-14) I think of how far I've come as a person, The self-esteem I feel now and the power within myself that I never knew I had is overwhelming. This time last year I had a few goals for myself going into surgery...
    1. Don't Die-- I assure you now I didn't!
    2. Don't Cheat, Not even once!--I'm human, and somehow then I guess I thought I'd come out perfect after surgery didn't happen.
    3. Get To Your Goal Weight.-- My goal weight at the time was 170 and I thought that was good enough as I didn't have any high hopes for myself.
As of today I have lost 96lbs from the 255lb uncomfortable person I was to 159lb person who is comfortable with herself and willing to do more in life, Who puts herself out there and is thriving. It's Amazing to me that I could ever be where I am. And like a lot of others out there, I wish I had given myself this gift sooner!
