hockeyfan7 got a reaction from swimbikerun in How Much Do/Did You Know About Nutrition?
I've been dieting since I was 18. I could write the book on proper nutrition. But knowing it and doing it are two different things.
I also could probably tell you about the nutrition and science or lack thereof behind every diet plan out there.
I grew up on a farm where we grew our own vegetables and fruits, had our own meat, etc., But that doesn't mean I actually followed a decent plan.

I used a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Bariatric Center of Excellence. Along with the surgeon it comes with the nutritionist as well. Both are used in conjunction. I saw the NUT before surgery for the pre-op. At that time there was also a 2 hour class on the surgery, what happens after, and the stages of the diet plan.
After surgery when I was still in the hospital the NUT came to see me, my surgeon came and the bariatric coordinator came. I was given everything I needed for the 2 weeks after surgery.
2 weeks after surgery I saw the NUT for the next phase of the program. I saw the surgeon at 3 weeks after.
I had another appointment with the NUT 2 weeks later. I see the surgeon again tomorrow. My next appointment with the NUT is in another 3 weeks.
The follow up care continues for the first year. And I can call or e-mail the NUT with questions any time I want.

I know that same full feeling - I got that on Saturday when I took one bite too many of the hamburger patty I was eating.
I have had no trouble whatsoever with any foods. I went to solids on day 10 with my surgeon and NUT approval.
My surgeon did tell me that he only took out about 75% of the stomach because I had scarring at the esophagus from the band and he didn't want to run the risk of leaking at that spot.
I haven't thrown up once in 7 weeks. With my band everything was coming back up.
Sounds like your experience is similar to mine.

Alex - I buy mine at either Amazon or BJ's bariatric pantry.< /p>
I like the chocolate truffle the best. But I also like the caribbean cooler, Crystal Sky and Twisted cherry. The strawberry and vanilla are OK. I have a friend who loves the mint cookie. I liked the Peanut Butter cookie okay too. Hated the oreo.
I mix mine with milk only. 12 oz of skim milk and either a scoop from the big jar or one of the packets if it's the grab and go. I use a shaker cup with the wire ball.
I have a friend who puts the mint cookie in her morning coffee.

You also may find that your tastes change - mine did. I used to eat sweets all day long. Now I just ignore them. I've eaten more fresh vegetables in the past 2 months than I have in the past 8 years.
I eat out. I order salad and some kind of grilled Protein. I love steak so I usually have steak and salad. I've eaten fajitas at a Mexican restaurant without the tortillas. And I just box up a good part of it and have it for a meal the next day.
I have had popcorn at a movie but I can't eat more than a couple of handfuls and I'm done. I just eat a few bites of my son's instead of getting one for me.

I'm in my 3rd month from my revision and I'm very happy with it so far. I've lost 35 lbs and I do have restriction even though my sleeve is not as small as a usual sleeve. The other day I pushed it and finished my plate and I did throw it back up. Otherwise I have not had a problem at all. I know not to do that now.

Congratulations - that's great! I can't stand the taste of ice cream any longer either and can totally ignore sweets now.
    Keep up the good work!

Thing is, no one requires an IQ test pre-op.
Lots of WLS patients eat post-op like this clown does.
    Bless their hearts.

Yes, mine was the same way. No pain meds at home and only twice in the hospital. Nice healing, No nausea. Was on solid foods and eating steak and salad by day 14 (with my NUT's and surgeon's approval).
The only thing I have as well is that I hate Water so it's hard for me to drink it.

I had it all done at once. Pretty much no pain - pain meds twice in the 2 days I was in the hospital and one was because I had a really bad headache. No pain meds when I came home. No nausea, vomiting or anything. I love it!
Surgery tips are the same as with the band - get thee out of bed and walk, walk, walk.

I had them the 2 days I was in the hospital. I had heparin shots multiple times a day. Between the shots and the blood draws I had 22 separate bruises when I went home.
They asked me in the hospital if I was safe at home. I told them I have 22 big bruises and 6 incisions on my stomach - I'm a whole lot safer at home than I am in here!

hockeyfan7 got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Why Getting Sleeved was the Biggest Mistake of My Life
Permanent? Well duh! I don't think anyone who had a sleeve went into it not knowing they were having anywhere from 75% to 85% of their stomach removed. It's not like it can be glued back on.
You asked "You want to live with only 15-20% of your stomach and eat 4-6 ounces of food at a time? Forever?" Well yes, actually I do. That's what I signed up for. But I can eat more than 6 oz of food at a time. I can eat 6 oz of Protein and a serving of vegetables like a salad or some zucchini or green Beans.
I don't need to eat a whole large pizza and a bag of potato chips like I used to. I don't need to eat ice cream and Cookies and candy bars. I feel so much better eating steak and salad.
And I'm not in the least bit deprived. Yesterday for lunch I had a broiled lobster tail with a small salad.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience but that doesn't mean the rest of us feel that way. And it doesn't mean someone going into the surgery will feel the same way. Actually I'd rather have most of my stomach missing than be dead which is where I was headed. And a lot of other people have that same situation.
I only wish I had done this in my 20s. I missed a lot of my life being morbidly obese.

I used to eat ice cream by the half gallon. Now it just tastes awful. In fact, sweet stuff tastes icky now. It's overly sweet and cloying. And I used to eat multiple candy bars daily or some form of candy all the time.
I used to eat potato chips by the pound bag. Now they taste awful to me too. I can't tell you why - they just do.
And I've eaten more vegetables in the past 8 weeks than I've eaten in the past 8 years. They taste really good now.
I weigh and measure everything and track on My Fitness Pal to make sure I stay within my calorie and Protein goals.
I don't believe in the whole calories in/calories out thing. If I'm only eating around 1100 calories a day and I should be eating closer to 1900 at my weight then the weight should be falling off if it's only CICO. But it isn't falling off that fast.

hockeyfan7 got a reaction from mpacheco217 in What does it feel like to have the sleeve v. band?
I had a band to sleeve revision all in one surgery on June 1st. I had the band in 2012 and the first 2 years were fine. Then I started throwing up everything I ate including even something like Protein shake. I kept going to get the fill adjusted and never could get into the green zone. So in April the doctor removed all the fill and then I had the surgery.
I haven't thrown up or slimed once. I can eat chicken again. I haven't found any lean Protein or non-starchy veggie I can't eat. I can eat fruit. The amounts are still small and I still get full quickly. But it stays down.
I don't miss having that port at all either. Mine would move and rub on a nerve and hurt like heck like I was being stabbed.
My sleeve surgery was really easy. No complications, no problems with the liquid stage and no problems so far with the real food solid stage. Very little pain in the hospital and didn't take any pain meds once I got home. The hardest part was the 2-3 weeks of sheer exhaustion. The first week I had to sit on a chair to dry my hair or put on makeup and after a shower I had to sit on the bed for about 5 minutes before I could get dressed.
I don't regret switching one bit at all. I feel normal with the sleeve. When we go out to dinner I don't have to get up to go to the bathroom because what I just ate is coming back up.

I had scrambled eggs on day 8 and went to solids on day 10. That's my surgeon's plan. Today I had broiled lobster tail for lunch. Yesterday I had grilled ribeye steak. I've had filet mignon several days this month too. I'd much rather have lobster than Pasta. I can eat 1/2 a hamburger with no bun - I put it on Bibb lettuce leaves instead.
I don't like sweets any longer. I've tried them and ick. They don't taste good any longer. So since I know they don't taste good to me I don't want to eat them. Ice cream was the worst - it was AWFUL.
