    Congratulations on taking this step
I would recommend NOT getting it done during the semester. Although I had a very easy recovery, I definitely was in a brain fog for about a month after surgery (and very distracted in the weeks leading up to surgery). You need all of your focus for finishing up your degree so the more rest you can get around the time of your surgery the better.
Good luck with your surgery and your senior year!

On one of my many attempts at Weight Watchers, I had a wonderful coach who was teaching a class once say "Just because you broke one dish unloading the dishwasher, doesn't mean you have to break the rest"

Move on, and start over. Look deep inside yourself to understand the reasons you don't feel completely committed at this point. I'm not one to judge about how well I did or didn't do during the pre op, because I did not have the pre op liquid diet (thank goodness). I can tell you I had a "food funeral" before surgery, and it didn't make me any less committed to the post surgery diet once I had it. Because of GERD complications, I was on 6 weeks of liquids afterwords, but I knew it was for my own good at the time so I didn't stray from it. I am also pretty much a stickler to the program to this day ( I'm proud to say). I don't really think it's fair to question her commitment to the program based on the pre op diet. But that's like, my opinion, man.
Oh, I almost forgot! PLEASE PLEASE read "The Emotional First Aid Kit" by Cynthia Alexander. I am half way through it and don't know how I was getting through this before I read it. Should be must reading for any pre op and post op WLS patient!

To my mind, the real issue in this thread is not about being perfect. It's about taking personal responsibility for your behavior -- instead of blaming the cat, your period, your kid, or your boss for making you eat food you didn't "mean to eat."
A lot of very experienced, very smart vets used to post on BP. Here's a thread some of you would benefit from reading.

I don't think it is fair to question someone's motivation because they are having a hard time. I bet there is not one single one of you who has done every single step of this journey perfectly. You may be struggling post op with getting your Water or Protein down...why can't you 'just do it'? You don't really want it. You may have struggled pre-op with cutting negative people out of your life. Why can't you 'just do it'? You must not have really wanted it. Every person is different and just because you overcame a particular part of the puzzle does not mean other people who struggle with that particular issue is unmotivated and isn't ready.
Every single one of us is here because we have been unable to control our relationship with food.
Let she/he who be without sin cast the first stone.

Battling hunger, head or otherwise, is no joke. Why be critical of someone struggling? We are all here because we have, or have had issues with food. OP, don't give up, and don't beat yourself up, just pick yourself up, and keep trying. You will get there.

Well I'm gonna stay positive. I still have 2 days before surgery so I'll to make these 2 days count. I also plan on being honest with my surgeon. I'm not giving up on myself I know God sure hasn't.

The first two days are rough, but then your hunger diminishes. Try drinking warm broth - that's what got me through.
And let somebody else cook dinner for the family - cooking dinner while on a liquid diet would be torture!!!

I'm about at the same place (surgery 6/22) and am still weak. I am working on getting adequate Fluid intake between my naps!
You probably had a urinary catheter during surgery - catheters can interfere with your ability to feel how full your bladder is after they are removed. Usually doesn't last too long.

i was out for 5 working days, and the two weekends sandwiched around that. the problem isnt the incisions, its the fact you wont have any energy and your constanly trying to figure out how to drink etc. remember your diet and etc.

My psychologist said he rejects about 5%. They also get paid regardless of approval, around here anyway. Most psychologists (I am one of them) would not accept testing tasks if the results and payment were tied together -- that would be viewed as unethical.

If you've already gone through all the other steps and you've stuck to the process this far, I'm sure you're in a good mindset now and have heard a lot of great information from your surgeon and NUT and others along the way.
I was really anxious about the appointment too, because I knew my lack of family support/family's health, my depression and anxiety, and history of eating disorder and self-harm would make me seem like a horrible candidate for this surgery. And I was 100% honest with this psychologist. I didn't hold back one thing that would be an obstacle for me in weight loss. But I "passed," so to speak, so I guess she saw something in me.
I have a feeling not many people who get as far as the psychologist visit in the process get denied by the psych. because they've already shown a commitment.
I think they're basically looking for what the insurance looks for: a history of failed dieting and a commitment to sustainable, healthy eating habits.

I said that when they removed my thyroid, my female organs and my gall bladder! It's more the anticipation that made me nervous--not the actual results. I was and am fine without them! Now--on June 30th--most of my stomach! I want the results and am choosing to not concentrate on the loss. But it is a loss and I am told we will grieve it!

I got sleeved in early February 2015 and no regrets. However I have a feeling that people that had WLS and have regrets don't tend to frequent this board. I don't think that is the particular demographic that is represented here.
My co-worker had the band 6 years ago. The sleeve was not an option then. She has lost the weight and kept it off but does not recommend the band to anybody. She gets stuff stuck and still vomits periodically. Her sister had by-pass 10 years ago and she wishes she had that instead. She would love to revise to the sleeve but has no band slippage so insurance won't cover. She is happy she had surgery just not that surgery.
Her daughter had the band also 6 years ago and never lost weight. The doctor refused to do any more fills until she had a psych visit. She refused to have one. I bet she has gained another 50 or 75 pounds. She never should have had any weight loss surgery. She was not ready for it. She was also only 20 years old and very immature for her age. . She would eat, throw up, eat more. She never did the liquid diet pre-op and started eating solids too quick after surgery. She would eat slider foods and drink lots of alcohol. She did have a psych eval prior to surgery and "passed" it. Her cousin had the band 5 years ago and had the band removed a couple of years later since she never lost weight and then couldn't stand the thought of something foreign in her. Yes, most of the family has weight issues.
It is a tool. Do your research, take your time and make sure that you are willing to do the work. It will take work and planning. It is not a magic wand. For me it has been well worth it. However it is not for everybody. Your choice in which WLS is also a personal thing.

My Dr gave me a choice of the Bariatric Advantage vitamins, or just taking a multi, Iron, and calcium. I also take biotin, qo-q10. My monthly total is $17 vs this special Vitamin.

    I wish I had known:
    1. That depression is pretty common for the first few weeks after surgery: mourning food, feeling uncomfortable, looking at a seemingly insurmountable goal. GOOD NEWS>>>>depression lifts, pain/nausea resolves, goal gets closer and closer every day!
    2. To NEVER compare your weight loss with others.....we all lose at our own pace (for a variety of reasons). GOOD NEWS>>>>>if you work the plan, the weight WILL come off, and my slower loss gives me more time to practice the plan and good habits that hopefully will be easier to maintain once at goal (as they will be sooooo ingrained).
    3. To focus on non-scale victories (ie. clothes fitting looser, fitting in seats better, less joint pain, etc). GOOD NEWS>>>>>these NSVs are the reason why we do this....we did it to feel better!
    4. That you will stop missing the foods that you thought you couldn't live without. GOOD NEWS>>>>healthy stuff starts tasting better than it did before! A couple of fresh strawberries for dessert really IS a treat (vs a ton of M&Ms). Seemingly unbelievable, yet somehow true.

Someone told me that the first six months is a window of great opportunity to lose most of your weight. Your restriction is at its best during this time period and its best to make the most of it by trying your hardest and sticking to the guidelines no matter what.
I didn't allow myself to eat sugar and hardly any carbs the first six months. After that, I got close enough to my goal weight to increase my calories and loosen up a little.

Agreed with the 3 week stall...found out about that here and yes everyone has it to some extent.
The one thing I missed somehow was that in my paperwork the NUT said she wanted us getting 48 ounces of Fluid in the first week after surgery. My panic moment came when I couldn't even get 8 ounces the first day. I really thought something was wrong. Then she said work your way UP TO 48 ounces.
I had researched like crazy also but forgot about the temperature of what you drink. I couldn't drink cold for the first week then it was fine.
OMG yeah your underwear is so quick to sag. Your clothes will follow. Goodwill, Old Navy and Walmart will be your best friend until you get to goal weight.
Reward yourself with things NOT food for hitting benchmarks. Take your weight loss in bite size pieces and Celebrate not just when you get to goal.
Absolutely follow your plan, it works. It keeps you on the straight and narrow. It helps you keep yourself accountable and keeps you from sliding back into old habits.
    Good luck!!!

For me, I just did not understand how fast my wardrobe would become obsolete. I used to live in baggy dark clothes so I could hide my body.
Now, I hate wearing clothes that are too big for me. I want to show off how great I look. Currently I own 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of black capris and about 5 tops that actually fit me well.
Oh, and by the way for me I lost the weight in my butt first and 1. Your underwear get too big really fast 2. Your darn tail bone sticks out and your butt hurts all the time!
On a good note, I absolutely love that I can walk into Victoria's Secret and buy underwear, bras and pajamas! I secretly coveted that ability for years and now I live to buy and wear pretty underthings. And Lane Brants Cacique just does not compare to the feeling of putting on a pretty VS bra!
    My two cents.....

I am glad my surgeon went into a great deal of detail about the importance of Protein and the evils of high fructose corn Syrup as well as the physiology of obesity and why it's not a character flaw but a physical problem to be obese.
