My surgery was in Mexico, and most of my friends thought I was nuts, but when you do self pay, they offered the best service for the best price. My facility was great and the care was wonderful.
I was scared to death as the date got closer, but so dang thankful when it was done. It is a process. There will be change. The sleeve is just a tool, not a magic wand. It is a new beginning and there is a great deal deal of discovery ahead, I was blown away at the many self discoveries I made about my relationship with food that I didn't know I had. Be open to the truth and doors will open. May sound kind of New Age, but this is a physical as well as mental and spiritual journey. Fear is just a signal that something new is about to happen.
Good luck and congratulations on having the courage to begin a new chapter in your life. You can archive the "fat years" soon.

My surgery is 9 days away. I am freaking out! I have so many anxieties and worries... Will I fail? Will I have complications? Will I be kidnapped in Mexico and sold as a sex slave? Jk... Kinda ????
I am a low BMI (just over 30)... I worry I won't lose the weight. I worry my reflux will be worse. I worry that I'm being selfish for spending so much money on an "elective" procedure. I really love food. I love trying new food when hubby & I travel... I love sweets... I mean duh. This is how I got here!
I just feel super girly emotional right now & wanna cry. My husband is being supportive but if I even mention not having the procedure to him he says he wouldn't. Of course he wouldnt, he doesn't struggle with his weight...
I dunno. Guess I needed to vent. I am just worried about EVERYTHING.
I should also add that he's going with me to Mexico, and I'm worried we may kill each other the first few days I'm without food, lol!!!

I am right here with you all. I have a BMI of 30 but at almost 5'10" I tend to carry it well and most people don't see what I see. I've battled obesity for 25+ years and am ready to be happy and healthy in my body. Yes I have had some success with other weight loss programs but it always creeps back!

I had the sleeve surgery in June. I was 187 lbs, 5.4" tall, BMI about 31.
I travelled to Jordan to have the op as no doctor would do it in Europe. The best decision of my life. within 6 months I was down to my current weight of about 141 lbs. I'm healthy and happy. I'm a UK size 8, US 4.
I'll try to put a couple of pictures up. :-)
Just because we did not get to a desperate stage of weight, it doesn't mean that we have no right to do whatever we can to make ourselves healthy and happy. Trying all my life and being 46, I knew I couldn't just loose it and keep it off.
Go for it, you will not regret it...
    :-)

28-29 BMI'er checkin in, I have surgery in a week...don't worry about it, I struggled as well with the decision to have surgery, and after taking some really really unflattering shots of me in a bathing suit, I am so happy about my decision. Sure I can wait and pile on some more pounds, exercise with knee pain, have crippling asthma, have my first heart attack at 32 (like my mother)-or I could get this under control. ..good luck, do it for you, not anyone else.

I would listen to your body. Sounds like the Soup worked for you. We are all different, no cookie cutter approach is going to work. As long as it's safe, do what's best for you without returning to old habits. Hope you feel better soon!

RNsleever715 reacted to onmywaytoonederland in Primary dr. said what?
I am still seething mad over this. I am over 7 month post op. Went to my primary dr., labs are great, no more high cholesterol, no more high blood pressure, no more pre diabetic state. She says, "wow, you look great, you have lost almost 100 pounds!" I say, I have. Feel so much better, move so much better. No more hip and knee pain. She then says, "you know, every single patient I have that had this surgery has gained back every pound. You do know that you are going to gain it all back, right?" Oh my gosh!!!! It took every ounce of patience I have to be kind. I told her that I beg to differ with her experience, but I do think gaining it all back is the exception and I have to tell ya, I am absolutely NOT going to be one of her ugly statistics. She said, well, I really didn't want you to have the surgery, I don't agree with it. Mind you, she never said anything of the sort while in the pre op stages. More was said and I ended the appointment saying, maybe you should make an incognito trip to one of the seminars and educate yourself on how obesity changes your body, on a cellular level. Time for me to find a new doctor. Oh, and she wants to get more into the bariatric side of medicine but treat with behavior mod and meds. Seriously?????

    What a fun topic.
Now how to explain my profile name ribearty. My husband shortened everyone's name in our family to the first syllable of their name and added bear behind it. My first name is Rita so I was ribear. At the time we were buying ty beanie babies which explains the ty.

Mine goes back to high school, small town USA, rednecks, we had CB's in our trucks. My "handle" was Goldilox, I have always had long, pretty blonde hair. Brings back great memories and fun times. And the last decent nickname I've had in a long time. :)

Went to Cozumel with my hubbie and another couple in 2000. Don, my friend, started calling me Seagirl, because I'm like a fish, they would always find me in or near the Water. He still calls me Seagirl..

I find a lot of names on here interesting and I'm sure there are good stories behind how everyone chose them. Anyone like to share? For me, Kindle is my horse's name and she was the "straw that broke the camel's back" in my decision to have VSG. I feel bad for her, having to lug my fat ass around the mountains and would love to be able to hop on her without having to find a rock or log to climb up on. (there's a dozen other reasons behind my decision, but my profile name is my tribute to her and how much more fun we will have next summer!)

I need someone out there to tell me I'll feel so much better in a couple of days.
Btwn gas pain, incisional pain and nausea, I am hating myself for doing this.
I loved Water pre-op and can barely sip it without becoming nauseated. The pain med I was sent home with is some God awful cherry flavor.
Everything I can have right now makes me absolutely sick.
It's going to get better, right??

I felt like total crap the first 5 days. I just kept saying "this too will pas!" AND IT DID! I'm 17 days out and feeling great. Going out, socializing and doing everyday activities. I just don't revolve everything around food. I put Protein fruit punch in my purse and a bottle of Water. I have order Soup at restaurants and just sipped the broth. YOU CAN DO THIS!

WOW sounds like you are having a tough time of it. I had a very different experience post op. I have had no issues with drinking, and on average I am consuming 80-100 oz a day. I was a big Water drinker pre surgery and just continued post. I am only week 4 post op, so haven't gotten to the food piece yet. My surgeon doesn't allow soft foods till weeks 5-8, and then normal foods after that. I have noticed a difference in switching to full liquids last week, I definitely fill up faster.
I love how I feel, so I would never want to go back to the way I was before. I hope you find a place that you are more at peace with the choice you made, and more comfortable with your new life style
